Not sure why others stated that it did not extend over the lap when opened? Maybe they had their sofa too far away from the table and/or it was not fully extended? Mine also arrived damaged. If I am compensated through amazon customer service ([email protected]) you will see a five star rating! You would not have guessed that it would be damaged by seeing how it was packaged! It truly was packaged so well and not a single bruise was on either box inside or outside. Seems maybe it was damaged before placing in the boxes? I can not find an option to contact the seller. Maybe that is on purpose or my error? I had tried to cancel this order soon after placing it because I was thinking about all the negative reviews but it was too late. Arrived very quickly. The price tag and the function of this table is very attractive. It is a nice table. If you decide to take a chance and get it, all the best to you. Maybe you shall receive one blemish free. I didn't mention how easy it was too put together. You can do so without instructions as it didn't have any. I did hear a cracking noise when I tightened two screws. Part of the frame began to unravel. I hope it doesn't fall apart in that area. UPDATE: a couple days short of a week old - small screws began popping out that holds the metal lifting bracket to the wood. I noticed more of them could not be tightened and seemed loosely attached. I replaced most of them with longer ones, I would have replaced all of them if I had enough screws on hand. This is actually something that needs to also be addressed. I emailed customer service and they added a feature to my orders to call them through the Amazon App. I do not have this app downloaded on my phone so it did not work properly. I found the number in my missed calls history and called them back. That is when I received compensation. They offered a partial refund or another delivery. I was also told that they would make note of all these negative reviews and find out what is going on with the delivery of damaged goods. Maybe you should check with them to see if they have corrected this problem before you place your order. Aug. 16, 2021 UPDATE: last picture still loving it and swapped longer screws to table top still holding on. Found the baskets at Michael's. They fit perfect and have to be put in from top because the option I selected was too tall to slide out.

I opened the box and pulled everything out so I could assemble. When I got to the last leg of the table I realized that the piece of wood in the corner with holes in it was placed upside down. I tried to unscrew it but realized it was also glued down. So I couldn't finish putting the leg on it in a secure manner. I decided to assemble it with the table top on with three legs secured and one leg partially secured by the top until I heard back from Top Drawer Furniture because I didn't want to leave it disassembled for who knows how long. They offered me to send it back to them for a full refund. I didn't want to disassemble it and put it in a box. I wanted to be credited fairly for a damaged item. However, in the meantime the lift top was up and my child put a little bit of elbow pressure on it and the whole top ripped out from the screws that were secured by the manufacturer and luckily my other child caught the table top before it fell on them. I went to fix the screws and realized that the wood was partially shredded from tearing out - and it's not the best wood so the screws definitely need added support should you want to actually use the top for anything while it is up - who wants a table that lifts up that you can't actually put any bit of weight on? Well I tried my best to tighten the screws thinking maybe the company didn't have them screwed in all the way anyway. Nope. The next time a little bit of pressure was placed on it they all ripped out again. Top Drawer Furniture offered me a 20% discount, or pack it up and return for a full refund, for something that could have really hurt my children had my older child not caught the top both times. I wrote them back again because I wasn't satisfied with that answer. We did finally reach an agreeable solution. It is a cute table. It's just that the bracket and screws holding the top is not made very supportive and will need to be fixed to be safe to use. The upside down wood piece with holes - just a glued down mistake.

Okay. Would have given a 4-star if table stain hadn't come off so completely like water-color paint when I tried to remove the glue left over after removal of over foot long several inch wide label that really messes up the appearance of the table when top raised if you don't remove it. Like mattress labels, consumer should be able to remove obnoxious labels without destroying the product. Love the table other than the ugliness of the label being there or the results of removing it. I installed a shelf under the lifting top to store remotes, paperwork etc. +

Its a very substantial table....beautiful finish. Easy to assemble. Just one thing. Make sure you pull the top up the right way. I didn't realize that the false drawer should be facing away from you and I pulled the top the wrong way and 6 of the screws that holds the mechanism to the table top popped out. I was SO upset. They are only 1/2" wood screws. So I had to do a repair....I include a photo. I used wood glue in each of the holes and then screwed the screws back in.....I will let it dry overnight and then reassemble the table. I just hope they hold, but I think they will. The screws could have been a little longer. ETA: The repair worked just fine. I do agree with another reviewer that the top doesn't lift out far enough to bring it down to lap level. But I love the table and the price so it not a major issue. But if you plan to use the top lifted a lot, you may want to consider other options.

I have been waiting for it to come in stock at the Ashley Furniture, then I find it on Amazon and it shipped in a couple of days, packet sturdy for shipping. Beautiful, rich looking piece, easy to assemble. I have several other Porter pieces love them, for the rich color. My room is not that big therefore I did not want the long coffee table. This was perfect.
