Description

From the Manufacturer This circular fisheye lens produces circular images with an angle of view of 180-degrees when attached to a full-frame digital or 35mm film SLR camera. It has a maximum aperture of f3.5, a minimum focusing distance of 5.5-inches and a maximum magnification of 4.6x. The special fisheye design allows maximum creative expression. Sigma's super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, a common problem with digital cameras. The new lens power layout reduces color aberrations. Providing excellent image quality for digital and film SLR cameras. This lens can be used for the scientific applications such as the solid angle measurements of cloud distribution over the sky, the vegetation distribution of the rain forest canopy, etc., due to the quantifiable angle/area relationship it produces. This lens has a gelatin filter holder at the rear, allowing the use of gelatin filters. DG (DG lens) These are large-aperture lenses with wide angles and short minimum focusing distances. With an abundance of peripheral illumination, they are ideal lenses for digital SLR cameras whilst retaining suitability for traditional 35mm SLRs. EX (EX lens) The exterior of this lens is EX-finished to denote the superior build and optical quality, and to enhance its appearance.

  • Fun Lens
Style: For Canon SLR Cameras
Great lens with one caveat, Closest auto focus doesn't work well in AF with front of lens about an inch from subject

  • Excellent quality but expensive lens
Style: For Canon SLR Cameras
I'm using this lens with Canon EOS 6D full-frame camera (5D previously), and my previous fisheye lens was Peleng 3.5/8mm. The Sigma's optical quality is truly excellent in comparison with Peleng. The most important thing is that the resolution is far better than the Peleng's. It exceeds the capabilities of 12 MP sensor (5D) and looks very good at 20 MP (6D). This lens gave a huge boost of quality to my spherical panoramas. I can easily shoot even with the sun in frame - almost no flares or loss of contrast. The black field around the image circle is truly black in most conditions. The AF is old-school: slow, buzzing, with rotating ring. It worked well on 5D, but on 6D it tends to back-focus (farther than infinity mark) when shooting landscapes, it was necessary to apply correction in camera menu. But note that the AF performance is not important for fisheye. I don't like the front cover: it's made of 2 pieces for some reason, and it holds on the barrel by nothing but the friction. I'd like to see the single-piece cover with some kind of thread or another more reliable connection. All in all, it's an excellent product regardless its relatively high price for a "toy" lens. ... show more

  • I'm very happy with this
Style: For Canon SLR Cameras
I got mine about a month ago and am just back from 10 days in Italy, where I used this extensively. Sharp, good flare control, lots of fun. The previous reviewer says something about the AF being slow-- which, while true, is only half the story. You're almost always going to be focusing at or near infinity, so it's actually very rare to have to wait. Because this lens has such wide depth of field, I actually usually keep it on manual focus and leave it near infinity. Actually, the biggest challenge with this lens is composition-- it can be surprisingly hard to find a scene with interesting things in all directions. That said, this lens is *excellent* for inside buildings and crowded city streets. Be aware that outdoors, finding the correct exposure can be difficult for a number of reasons. I did significantly better in M (manual) mode than my camera was doing in A (aperture) mode. (reasons for difficulty include the dark corners in the frame which mess up the camera's metering in some modes, and the probability that the sun will be in the frame and/or there will be both very light and very dark areas in the frame) This lens is excellent for making spherical panoramas, and for realllllly wide angle shots (I'm de-fishing a lot of my pictures with software). (I use this lens with a Canon 10D) ... show more

  • Probably your best bet.
Style: For Nikon SLR Cameras
Expensive compared to what is available from china, but good build quality and chip works great with my D7000. Used for doing 360 panos and recognising lens data from PTGUi. Wish chromatic aberrations were a little bit less but I am sure this is as good as the best out there and probably just inherent in this wide of a lens. Lens IS nice and sharp at f8. ... show more

Style: For Canon SLR Cameras
I work in the VFX industry doing computer generated imagery for multi-million dollar movies and this lens is not only a must have but it's the best one you'll find. Very high quality, consistent and a work horse. I'd also recommend using this lens in other professions. Perfect for making 360 degree Quick TIme VR movies. For fun.. this is a HUGE hit at parties. You'll get some great results and everyone gets so interested when you put the lens 2 inches from the face to take a picture! • Fun lens
Style: For Nikon SLR Cameras
This is a fun lens to work with, if you know how to use it and have an actual application for it. Good lens to do sky timelapses (for aurora, for example), with only a little of landscape all around the perimeter. However, the lens is not very sharp at the edge, you get what you pay for, the lens is an inexpensive fun gadget. ... show more

  • This is what a Google Trusted Photographer Needs
Style: For Canon SLR Cameras
As a Google trusted photographer, Google provides us with a list of gear. This is the correct lens for the gear. I'm using it on a canon 7d and a rebel t3i and it works great. I thought there would be more distortion in the lens but there isn't, it creates great HDR and fisheye images, the flair control is better than on the canons lens, but it does focus a little slower than the Canon USM lens, but I am not shooting action shoots with this lens so it really does not matter. This is the first sigma I have owned, but will not be the last one. Pro: Sharp Picture Great Flare Control Cons: No Manual focus override - have to switch it to MF mode ... show more

  • Front lens cap and adaptor ring Front lens cap and adaptor ring
Style: For Canon SLR Cameras
I have been using the lens for about 6 months now and of course I have been extra careful handling the lens especially when removing the front lens cap. Right away I noticed how the lens front adaptor ring fitted just a bit loose and tended to slide off "just didn't fit tight" and has a fine metal edge.. I am a professional photographer and use the lens daily and it finally happened, I was taking the lens out of my bag and the fine edge on the front adaptor ring that the front lens cap clicks on to slid off and really scratched the front of the lens. I would rate the lens as 5 stars, but I feel that the front adaptor ring needs to be redesigned, the edges are too fine. I cant be the first Photographer that this has happened too. Be extra careful when removing the lens cap and front ring. . I want to give this product a 5 Star rating but I can't now because i am going to need to purchase a new lens. This would of not happened if everything fitted just slightly tighter Be careful..... ... show more
