  • Wide to super-telephoto, a great lens Wide to super-telephoto, a great lens
Style: Canon SLR Mount Set: Lens Only
I really love the 18-300 Sigma lens (Canon EF mount). When used on the Canon 90D (APS-C sensor) focal length is 28-480. It has great contrast. Out of the box I found the zoom ring to be a bit stiff, but it seems to be getting better with use. The focus ring is in close proximity to the zoom ring so, you have to be careful that your fingers are not overlapping onto the focus ring lest you interfere with the auto-focus function of the lens. Very good bayonet mount lens hood. Beware: The lens instructions say the Lens Stabilization Feature can be damaged if you do not shut down the camera before changing the lens, I would have to recommend you be careful as most Canon lenses do not carry this warning. Overall, I am very pleased. ... show more

  • My first impressions were very good. The lens seemed sharp throughout its range
Style: Canon SLR Mount Set: Lens Only
I got this lens only a few hours ago, and immediately put it to the test. My first impressions were very good. The lens seemed sharp throughout its range. I compared shots with it and with two highly-regarded zooms I already own: the Canon EFS 15-85 and the Canon EF 70-300L. Of course the two Canon zooms were sharper, but not by much. I found the Sigma results quite acceptable. Curiously, unlike many other superzooms, the lens gets sharper at its longer focal lengths. I wasn't expecting much anyway, but the extreme close-ups I tried were not very sharp. But I might try again. An added bonus for Canon users, the zoom ring rotates in the same direction as does Canon zooms. I will probably retire the two Canon lenses, saving my 72-year-old back quite a bit of stress. I have only two complaints, neither of which is worth deducting a star. 1) The zoom ring is a bit stiff, but will probably loosen with use. 2) The lens does not allow full-time manual focus. Much of my decision making was based on test results that I found on "the-digital-picture/reviews" website. Edited a week later - I have taken several hundred photos and am very satisfied with the results. Edited a month later - I took it on a cruise and took many photos on and off the ship. The lens performed well, and its wide range mostly eliminated the need to switch lenses. For most shots center sharpness was good with perhaps a loss of sharpness in the corners. Edited another month later - I took it to Hawaii, where it produced good results again. Its extended range allowed me to carry only the camera and lens for many outings, rather than a camera bag with two lenses. ... show more

  • Great lens for the money
Style: Canon SLR Mount Set: Lens Only
I'm a photojournalist at a very small newspaper. I wanted a lens that could be used in most situations without having to go to the camera bag to switch between close-ups and sports action needs -- not to mention tourism use. This is a great lens for the money on my 60D once everything was all on the same page. Out of the box it did not like the 60D's multi-focus points so I switched to the center point and that helped. AF struggles at 300mm and the OS juttered a lot a first. It felt like the lens had to get a read on the camera, or the other way around. I'm not technically skilled enough to know the difference. I bought the dock to do a firmware update which greatly improved performance and smoothed some rough edges including the OS. That said, we suggest you encourage your Sigma dealer to do this for you as a term of sale. This lens does not have customization setting features so the only other thing you can do with the dock is tinker with focus range settings at different zoom points. We have not had the lens long enough to mess with the factory settings. It takes great pictures and gives me the versatility I'm looking for. We'll see in the long run. It's heavier than the average lens and feels extremely well built. Some have complained the zoom is stiff but I find this comforting as a sign of tight tolerances. Two things that annoyed me: The lens cap is not secure if you have a UV filter attached and is constantly falling off as I walk about; and the lens hood is not very secure and it also easily falls off. Added some small dabs of super glue to the hood in strategic friction points (and let it dry thoroughly) and this seems to have helped secure it. Do NOT put glue on the lens. The hood is easily replaced. I'll be looking for a different lens cap because this one will probably be lost soon enough. ... show more

  • The description lies
Style: Canon SLR Mount Set: Lens Only
It might be a good lens for a camera that uses EF-S lenses. But the description says it id for "EF cameras" so I bought it for a full frame camera. It crops the corners off the pictures.

  • Sigma 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM ( C ) Great lens!!
Style: Canon SLR Mount Set: Lens Only
Haven't had it too long, but I can tell just from the few pics and the workmanship of the lens that I'm going to enjoy using this a lot. I compared to my Canon 28-135mm that came with my 40d, the Sigma is tighter, smoother and just feels better made than the Canon. Not to bash Canon, their "L" lenses are incredible but at a price few can afford. This lens, in my opinion is another choice to get quality at an affordable price. This is not the first Sigma lens I've owned, I also had a 28-300 for a Minolta Maxxum back in my film days. ... show more

  • 2 months of pure satisfaction
Style: Canon SLR Mount Set: Lens Only
I finally replaced the Canon 75-300mm kit lens that came with my original T3i and I can't be happier. I have a Sigma 50mm lens that I love but was always handicapped by it's fixed focal length. After attempting to do some lower light shots at night I was finally fed up with the Canon lens. I immediately ordered this lens and from the first shot I took I was impressed. The color saturation was incredible and the long distance focus was incredibly accurate. I highly recommend to anyone looking to upgrade their kit lens. ... show more

  • Fantastic all-rounder lens
Style: Canon SLR Mount Set: Lens Only
I had been searching for a decent all in one, all rounder lens for quite some time ( I am not the kind of guy who enjoys going on holidays with an extra bag full of lenses) when I found this. First time that I buy a non- Canon lens so I had my doubts, however, I can't be happier. Solid construction, nice feel and grip, impressive quality indeed. I am using it on my EOS- M which has an APS-C sensor size. Just be careful it wont work properly on you normal EOS with a full frame sensor ( awful vignetting when tried on my EOS-5) Absolutelly recommended. ... show more
