  • A Must Buy!
Color: Black Style: Wireless Pattern: Earphones
I originally picked up the Shure TW2 to go with my SE846s so that I could go to the gym and wear audiophile-quality earbuds. But then I noticed I could've gotten these for not much more than the regular TW2 price, and I'd get AONIC 215s for cheap. Score! I absolutely love these earbuds. Are they as good as my 846s? Obviously not. But I don't need them to be. I use my 846s for gaming and audiophile stuff; I use my AONIC 215s for working out and mowing, and they're PERFECT for this. Honestly, I think they'd be fine for just about anything, but if you're into high quality music listening, then you'd probably want something just a little better than the 215s, but that's only because I'm an audio nerd. For most people they'll probably be an improvement over what most people have been listening to music with. But, again, why I really bought these was for the TW2s, and it's amazing. Because high end Shure IEMs come with detachable wires, you can use the TW2s with anything in the Shure line-up (so long as the wires are detachable, of course). So I can switch in my 846s or my AONIC 215s depending on where I am or what I'm doing, or keep the AONIC 215s in my gym bag while I keep my 846s at home. Replacing the IEMs are super easy. Simply pull them off, snap the new ones on. No issues whatsoever. The battery life is very good. I can go about 8-10 hours on a single charge, and the case (which is VERY bulky, but they're very protective and has a sizable battery) has about three extra full charges in its battery, so you can easily go on long flights or trips and not have to worry about running out of battery. I also like the app. It's simple to use, and switching between IEM models is as simple as snapping the new ones in and then going into the app and selecting the new model. You'll have to do that because the TW2s will transmit slightly differently depending on the model, which increases or decreases the volume (and other EQ info). On that note, the app itself is highly customizable for the sound, both with many presets for higher or lower bass, treble, etc and you can also customize your own presets for your own preferences. So whether you're just in the market for entry level audiophile earbuds or if you're already a Shure devotee and just want TW2s, I strongly recommend picking these up. You get an amazing IEM in the AONIC 215s for cheap while you also get the TW2s, which you can use with any other Shure IEM (that has detachable wires). Given the sound quality and EQ options, you can't go wrong with these, and that's coming from someone who has both the entry level IEMs like the AONIC 215s and the super expensive professional/audiophile quality 846s. ... show more

  • Isolate from enough road noise on a motorcycle (with longer third-party tips)
Color: Black Style: 3.5mm Cable Pattern: Earphones
I'm not a musician, and I listen to "lowly" unknown DJ EDM vs. the refined classical, rock legends, etc. "pro" music. However due to legal/liability reasons "motorcycle" audio brands (like Sena and Cardo) will never offer anything remotely isolating or cancelling - the 90db wind noise when riding at speed in an already advanced "skirted" full-face helmet. So, sorry, this review is for bikers, not audiophiles. The noise isolation comes first, and the sound stage second. Though I wonder how poor isolation (e.g. of standard foam tips) works for professional rock musicians on stage. Already owning dual-driver LDAC Soundcores with very enjoyable separation of bass and highs, I first went for 425s, even though I did expect them to sound "professionally flat" compared to a less "accurate" consumer product. I could clearly hear the separation of highs and lows (aka the "soundstage"), but the mids and highs felt distorted rather than "natural". The 425s bass issue is not that bad when using the white triple-flanged tips: the only ones that work isolation-wise on a motorcycle. Compared to 425s, the 215s sound just right with the proper balance of bass and crisp highs. Let alone the price difference. However for unknown to me reason, since both should be identical shape-wise, 215s didn't isolate as well with the same white Shure tips. I tried using "spacers" (cut from other tips), and it didn't fix the issue. Getting third-party (Almond ones, ASIN B00WTBW6QY) and cutting them to the exact length (3mm longer stem than the standard Shure tips, though your ears can be different) did. So if you are unsure whether to get Shure SE215 or similarly priced Etymotic ER3SE, the former are way more comfortable (100% painless), while the latter sound just a bit crispier at the price of some ear discomfort, as they need to be inserted deep - with the same custom Almond tips. Etymotic also isolates a tiny bit better IMO. The pain does have it's reward. One helmet-specific issue is the art of bending the "memory wire" to rest against your skull, so the helmet won't push on it and pull the earpiece out even slightly when putting it on. Cutting (or spacing) the triple-flange tip right is all about inserting it deeper into the ear w/o the earphone plastic body "springly" hanging on it. It needs to firmly rest inside the (outer) ear. Overall comfort-wise there is no issue whatsoever inside a modern full-face helmet with generous nowadays ear pockets. ... show more
