I did not know I could be so happy about headphones / ear buds! I've been so incredibly pleased with these. I have been on Android for years and just used the wired headphones that came with my phone. (I started using these and wondered if this is what the airpods are like.) Issues with the wired headphones: wire gets in the way, the cord sounds like it makes a lot of noise when it rubs against things, I hear my own chewing, I can't gage how loud I'm being, and I can't hear much else (traffic or my surroundings). These resolve every single one of those issues. They fit in my ear easily and comfortably. I have to wear them for hours before they start to bother my ears and get a little uncomfortable. They were incredibly easy to set up, as in, I did nothing. I opened them up and they connected right away to my phone (I may have had to approve that). They labeled themselves clearly and showed me the charge levels of each ear piece and the case. Figuring out how to operate them took a bit more processing to understand the movements / controls. But they aren't difficult. I love that putting them back in the case will charge them up. As an adult with ADHD, I love things that reduce the effort I have to put into things. Only charging the case on occasion, having it charge them back up, having a safe place to store them, all of these things together make me feel elated about how easy and convenient they are. They appear to hold their charge for a long time. I've listened to an audio book for hours while painting and they were still going. I appreciate the fact I can hear what's happening around me. For me, that's mostly being able to hear my kids, or if other people are coming and going when I'm working on something but listening to a book. A friend pointed out that if I lived in the city and were out on my own, it would be much safer. One down side is that if there's a lot of other noise, it's hard to hear. These serve a very different purpose than noise canceling headphones or even my plain in-ear buds. It's easy to switch between my audio books and incoming calls. I like the color of these as well. The case is easy to toss in my small sling pouch. The price feels high, but if I were going to spend the list price on good headphones I think I'd go for these. đź’Ż Five stars.

This is a new version of the new clip on open dot earbuds from shokz. I had the chance to try both open dots 2 and open dots air (this one) and compare them head to head. In addition, as a runner, I have been a long time user of open run pro2 which is the flagship earphones for runners. Open ear canal earbuds have been popularized by shokz which created a boom in the use of these earphones by athletes of many sports since this preserves environmental awareness while providing exceptional music quality. These buds each weigh 6.5 gr and are very easy to put on. They stay stable and secure during active motion such as running as well as head movements even rapid and jerky motions. Also they are almost unnoticeable on the ear. As compared to open dots2 and open run pro2, sound quality of this item is up to par with decent bass, tremble and good 360 degree surround. You can always customize these settings through the shokz app. The controls work through pinching the battery compartment with two fingers once or twice which adjust volume or change the song. The right side moves up while left moves down. You can also control it by touching the connector band for other functions. The sensitivity for these touchable parts can be adjusted and they require some learning process to master. Based on the item descriptions, charge in these buds last slightly less than their open dots2 counterparts in one charge (36 vs 40 h with pod support) and also the microphone might be more basic which I rarely used and did not notice much change. Also, maybe it is me but the charging pod in this one is more plasticky while open dots2 has a more sleek one (not that I care). The box it comes is also less premium but since I tossed them both, it matters not either. One objective difference is that this one does not come with a tiny USB-c cable for charging while the other one does. Considering how cheap those are, the difference is a matter of one dollar or less in material costs and does not affect anything. Lastly, this one and the open dots 2 version have slight changes in water resistance levels but in practice, I don't think that matters for most regular users unless you drench in water. The feel on ear, the size, material, sound quality are either same or unnoticeably different. Overall, if you are between models and considering options, open dots air can save you hard earned money without compromise in quality or performance. If you consider open run vs open dots, the difference is more pronounced but not in quality or performance but in style. Beyond the neck cord in open run is more secure yet can cause issues with headwear or hair. Open run is less noticable since it does not apply weight on ear but for most cases it does not matter much. For me, easy runs or walks... I go with either. For races or hard runs, hands down open run pro2 due to better ergonomy for running in particular. In conclusion, these are premium quality and performance earbuds that offer pretty much the same level of experience with more premium versions so can definitely be considered as option.

About six months ago, I saw these things on Amazon, and I immediately bought them for my husband for Christmas. I bought him the black ones, and he has used them every day, all day, ever since, he absolutely loves them. The reason that I got these for him is because he likes to listen to audiobooks to fall asleep, and he's always struggled with finding something that worked for that. I thought that the form factor here would potentially work better for him, and it turns out these are perfect for that. He flops around like a fish and I don't think he's ever lost one when he's sleeping. They work really well for sleep. When I saw that they had purple ones, I was excited I could get a set that would clearly be mine and we'd be able to tell them apart, so I ordered them as soon as I knew they existed. I like them! I have a lot of SHOKZ products. I use the open-air, over-the-ear ones for work. I'm on a lot of Zoom calls all day, and I find that they work well, but they've started to kind of hurt the top of my ears because I wear glasses as well. I was hoping that these would sit in a different spot, and they do, and it's great. I have AirPod Pros 3, and they're fine, but I don't like having something in my ear. I just don't like the way that feels. These Open Dots, they kind of clip onto your ear, and you can adjust them to whatever position works for you. That's great because the spot that is comfortable on one ear is not comfortable on the other ear, so I can just keep them a little cattywampus, and it's fine; it doesn't matter. They work in the two different positions and I don't have to be uncomfortable. The sound quality: I've only used them for a couple YouTube videos, some phone calls, and a few Zoom calls. They've been great for all of that stuff. No complaints. They don't noise cancel, because how could they? I like being able to hear what's going on around me, so I really like the open ear design and the lack of noise cancellation doesn't bother me in the slightest. I can't speak to battery life on the ones that I have, the purple ones, because I haven't had them long enough to have worn the batteries in, but I will say that are the ones my husband has been using for six months now still have great battery life. He can wear them all day without charging them, no problem. He doesn't have any problems with the case. Everything just works great. I have the SHOKZ app installed because of my other SHOKZ products, but I didn't bother with these ones, setting them up that way. I just added them as Bluetooth devices. I suppose I probably should use the app for firmware updates and stuff, but I just use Bluetooth to connect them to whatever device I needed, and then they just remember the devices. I guess Multipoint just worked for me; your mileage may vary. I'm using a lot of Apple devices, and they kind of carry the connections somehow, so my situation might be special. Overall, I really, really like them. They're a much better use case fit for me than AirPods Pro or the over-the-ear SHOKZ. These are just really good for my use case. Very pleased with them, and I will update my review if any of that changes.

This review is for the SHOKZ OpenDots Air: Lots to love about these ear buds, lots to not love as well. Let's start with the good. They stay on regardless of the level of exercise you're doing, they're great for that! The app really expands on the sound potential of these little ear buds greatly, and the gesture controls are phenomenal! The ear buds also sound okay, not too great for $130, but the fact that they're so light and stick in your ears so well justifies the price honestly. It seems their audio quality caps out at about 70% of my volume on an iPhone 17, after that you start to get some distortion in the sound quality. My real gripe here is the pairing process for these and the lack of material that comes in the box. The box contains a quick start guide, some documentation, a warranty card, a card advertising the app, and a cleaning cloth, alongside the charging case and the earbuds. The quick start guide does not tell you at all how to place the earbuds in pairing mode, or how to reset to factory settings, or the fact that the little three lines under the Shokz logo are actually a capacitive touch button? Maybe? I'm not even sure what it is yet. With that said, let me walk you through my experience with these OpenDots Air. I get the package, open it up, put the ear buds on, then on my iPhone, go to settings, bluetooth, I find them and pair. All good so far! I go to the Shokz app and find that there's a firmware update, I go ahead and do that and test out the earbuds with a few of my go to songs. All good so far! My wife tries to do the same on her iPhone 13 Pro Max, she goes to bluetooth settings, but the ear buds are not found. We tried multiple things to get the earbuds to show up, nothing worked. The documentation in the box says nothing about making the ear buds pairable, and as of writing this review there is 0 information on how to do this. I tried removing the earbuds from my phone to see if it has a limit of one phone maybe, but now neither her phone nor mine is connected/can connect to the ear buds... I contacted support and was finally able to find out that the three lines under the Shokz logo are a button somehow, and you need to hold them down for 15 seconds with the buds in the case to get them to start pairing again, except that only sometimes works, I think I needed to do that, then push on them a few times and then the light turns green and orange to start pairing. Anyway, I'm able to pair the earbuds to my phone again, tried again on my wife's phone, same issue as before, tried doing the pairing on the case again, and that did the trick. Apparently each time you want to pair the earbuds to a new device, you have to have them in pairing mode first. Overall, if you're using these on one device, and you're okay with the sound quality being just okay for $130, go for it, these are phenomenal. If you're sharing them with someone, there's gonna be a lot of fiddling around to get them to work.

First off, comfort and fit. These things are so light, they really just melt into your ear. I can wear these earbuds for hours and hours, its easy to forget I even have them in sometimes. They also stay put in my ears, no matter what I am doing. I love the fit and comfort when I am exercising, biking, jogging - really any activity where I'm moving around a lot. Now, there is an interesting problem when it comes to the fit, its the sound. Where you place the earbud will drastically change how your audio sounds, and I still haven't really figured out the best position for the earbuds. Sound quality is actually much, much better than I was expecting. I have always had the assumption that open-ear earbuds must have horrible sound quality, just by their very design. I was pleasantly surprised when I popped these in and they actually sound pretty nice, with a fair amount of bass and clear treble. Now, are these going to win over audiophiles, I don't know, but they are pleasant sounding to my ears. They do remind me a bit of open-ear headphones with a wider soundstage and a more natural, airy sound to music. The problem I have with the sound is that enjoyment for me is determined by two things: where I place the earbuds on my ear and the amount of environmental noise. Like I stated earlier, fit changes the audio, placing it closer to your ear canal makes it louder and accentuates bass more, but also makes it muddier. Farther away and you get a wider soundstage, but lose bass and quite a bit of volume. It took some playing around to find the sweet spot for me. Because these are open-ear, you are at the mercy of your environment with these earbuds. In quieter environments these earbuds perform great for me, but in loud environments I do wish I just had my airpods pro on instead. The microphone is also very serviceable. Its not the most amazing mic on the market, but surprisingly good for how small the earbuds are. I have had no complaints about people being able to understand me when using these earbuds for calls, but loud environments lower microphone quality significantly. The tap and pinch functions are also really great and easy to use, the hardest part was remembering what each pinch and tap did. The app is also very simple and easy to use while allowing for finer control over your earbuds, such as adding EQ and changing your tap and pinch gestures. It even has a rudimentary "find my" function where the earbud will play a loud noise to help you locate it if you lose them.

I’ve been testing these pretty carefully, and overall I really like them. They’re lightweight, comfortable, secure, and the multipoint Bluetooth works really well once you get it set up. But there are a few things buyers should know, especially around the “open ear” feel and the Shokz app. First, comfort is excellent. These are very light, and I barely notice them once they’re clipped on. They don’t pinch or hurt, and I can shake my head pretty hard without them moving around. That’s probably the biggest win for me. They feel secure without feeling like they’re clamped onto my ears. That said, I wouldn’t describe the experience as “nothing in your ear.” They don’t seal your ear canal like normal earbuds, but I can still tell there is something sitting there. With no audio playing, outside sound feels slightly changed or warped as it comes into my ears. It’s still very much an open-ear design, and I can hear what’s going on around me, but it’s not like wearing nothing at all. Sound quality is better than I expected for open-ear clip-on earbuds. Standard mode sounds good, and Bass mode also sounds good, though I didn’t notice a huge difference between the two for my normal listening. Both worked well for music, audiobooks, and podcasts. The Vocal mode was the surprise disappointment. I expected it to be great for podcasts and audiobooks, but to me it sounded thin, distant, and kind of tinny. Thankfully, the Shokz app has a custom EQ, so you can tune things yourself if the presets don’t land for you. Sound leakage was better than I expected. I played energetic music at about 67% volume while my wife sat next to me, and she couldn’t hear it leaking out at all. That impressed me. There’s also a Private mode in the EQ options that seems aimed at making leakage even less noticeable, which is nice to have if you’re listening around other people. Call quality was fine. On my side, the call sounded good. The person I called said I sounded normal, not amazing, not bad, just fine. That’s honestly about what I expect from small open-ear earbuds with built-in mics. Pairing to my phone the first time was perfect. I opened the case, my phone saw them right away, and they connected without drama. Multipoint pairing was more confusing at first because I expected to put the earbuds into a normal Bluetooth pairing mode manually. What I eventually learned is that the best way to do multipoint is through the Shokz app. Once I got into the app, the multipoint wizard was actually great, and now switching between my phone and laptop works really well. That leads to my biggest setup complaint: the packaging and quick-start materials should point you to the Shokz app much more clearly. My box included a serial number card, but I didn’t see clear directions about registering the product. I also didn’t see the app explained well in the quick-start materials, which is odd because the app is important. It’s how you register, update firmware, set up multipoint, adjust EQ, and change some settings. Once I found the app, the firmware update process was smooth, but I wish Shokz had pushed me there immediately. The charging case is good, but not perfect. The earbuds drop in nicely, the lid closes well, and the status light is helpful. The case has a slight sheen to it and feels a little lighter/cheaper than I expected from the brand, but it works fine. There is also a button on the case that doesn’t really look like a button at first, but it is one. The USB-C port worked with my cable, though I had to push the cable in harder than expected before it clicked and started charging. A few quick buyer notes: - These are great if you want awareness and comfort, not full isolation - They are not the right pick if you want noise cancellation or deep sealed-earbud bass - The app is basically required if you want the best experience - Vocal EQ mode was not good for me, but Standard and Bass both sounded nice - Multipoint is excellent once you set it up through the app - The fit is very secure without being uncomfortable - Sound leakage was surprisingly low in my testing - The case works well, but feels a little light for the price Overall, I’m happy with these. The comfort and secure fit are excellent, sound is good for this type of earbud, and the multipoint connection works really nicely. I just wish the setup materials made it much clearer that the Shokz app is where a lot of the real setup happens.
