I just want to leave 5 stars

  • Love Shoei, but the visor system needs to go back to 1200 era!

The media could not be loaded. Full disclosure: I’m an existing owner of a RF-1400 in a different print from 2022. This is not entirely about the Gundam design! This is about the RF 1400 series as a whole. Will update if anything has changed once I receive it. _________________________________ So, I have a RF-1400 in another color scheme (Fortress, red), got dropped a few times on a recent flight and am replacing it in an abundance of caution. Had the RF-1200 Vessel (Red) before this, and a RF-1000 Diabolic Zero. All very anime “themed” designs, but nothing really on brand so to speak The good: I’ve been waiting for the actual Gundam Style theme since the Vessel, and am super excited for this one!!! Was looking into getting a white Fortress to replace this one, but it’s been out of stock. Now I know why! Very cool! If you have more of a rounded head shape, Shoei is very comfortable for long rides and feels natural to wear. It’s lightweight, breathes better than most, and has support for full size speaker drivers in pockets where your ears go. I run a Sena headset which has meant typically I have to do some shaving of the speaker strain relief to tuck them properly, but they do sit nicely inside. Generally, quality is very good, but will explain more… The meh: From the 1200 to the 1400, they decided to change where you lift the visor from a tab on the right to a tab in the middle. Personally, I’ve always found this very annoying as someone who wears gloves, since you have to somehow squash your glove into a tiny gap between the release button and the tab in order to open it. Genuinely wish they would have left it alone, but I digress. Maybe the visor fixing mechanism on the 1200 wasn’t strong enough for certain types of situations; you pulled the tab to “lock” it into a kind of kind of catch on the front right corner…no release button required The snaps on some of the interior panels also seem to come undone frequently, but I have a feeling that has more to do with my hair (balding/shaved head, until it’s not, and it likes to behave like velcro). My helmet is from May 2022, the “pleather” coating on the (neck?) pads is starting to break up from being taken in/off, and occasionally I have to re-seat the speaker covers (was an issue with the 1200 too, so no real harm there). Where is my helmet? I hope these batteries are rated to be dropped occasionally that would be a good thing to know. The ugly: Along with the change in the visor release tab, is another change they made and I will never understand why they did it. The visor retaining mechanism they used on the 1200 was magical. You could do it without even taking the helmet off. However, for some unknown reason, they made the visor release system very difficult to operate. Now, maybe I haven’t cycled it enough? Maybe they expect people to swap visors more often, but I typically leave a dark smoked visor on mine at all times. So maybe I never broke it in all the way, but it’s incredibly difficult to take on and off the visor. Have really been frustrated and spent several minutes trying to align everything at times. The previous advisors used to have a circular feature. You could use to align it and then rotate the visor until the tabs found their locations. But this one has a smattering of small features and it’s very difficult to know whether you get it right or not. Not an issue if you never expect to swap them, and leave the visor installed when you want to clean it. But if you do prefer to take it off and wash it under a faucet per se, you’ll have a beast of a time every single time. I’m hoping that this Gundam iteration is better than the Fortress I currently use!! Conclusion: ... show more
