I purchased this helmet to replace my Arai Corsair-X that was stolen while at the track. I closely evaluated several helmets including the Shark Race-R Pro Carbon and decided on the Shoei RF-1400 for racing and street racing. The RF-1400 medium size actually fits me better than my Arai did as I am between sizes at 56.5mm. The helmet is a bit tight when putting it on but fits very well once on. Can't comment on noise level since I don't focus on that. Weight is average. This is IMHO the best helmet for the money. I would recommend it. ... show more

I purchased this helmet hoping to experience a quiet helmet at higher speeds. Shoei has nailed it. First off we should all be protecting our ears from damage from wind noise, which causes permanent ringing in the ears. The RF-1400 is considerably more quiet than the RF-1200, which was one of Shoeis main goals to achieve. I have ridden in both and for sure the RF-1400 is considerably quieter. Also, the helmet is extremely comfortable, and the field of view is much improved. I am totally impressed with this helmet and I am very picky about helmets. The venting is much improved also over the RF-1200. The center lock as opposed to the lock to the side on the RF-1200, is a far better seal and easier to maneuver and I really like this alteration. I have never ridden in an Arai, so I cannot compare this to an Arai helmet.. The Shoei is also a little cheaper than Arai and made in Japan which is where my Honda is made and I am convinced that Japanese products are of great quality. The Scorpion Helmet is a Shoei knockoff made in China and cheaper and is decent but it does not compare to Shoei. Both Shoei and Scorpion are Snell rated which is the gold standard for helmets. DOT ratings do not mean much. Do not hesitate to purchase this helmet. I am thoroughly satisfied and can stop shopping for helmets now. I bought the Red, White and blue Prologue and it is beautiful. Fantastic helmet. I’ve had inexpensive helmets over the years and finally upgraded. It’s very light and fits like a glove! The comfort, quality and low noise are all awesome. I've had no issues with this helmet so far. The fit is great, noise levels are comparable with other high end helmets, and cleaning has been easy. I also added a ratcheting chin strap, it's been a great helmet so far.

So the title says it all(pics of helmet to follow in update) but long and short. I dumped my bike at between 40-50 mph, tapping a car in the process. And looking at this helmet after, it's apparent this thing saved my life. Landing face down at first, the helmet not only held up to the pavement and impact(s)?(possible head hit the car. Can't recall), but cushioned enough to keep me conscious and coherent enough to get up immediately after and get out of harms way. When I can afford it, I will ABSOLUTELY be ordering another one just for that situation alone. In addition to being the quietest and most comfortable helmet I've ever put on(despite me fogging it almost all the time) it's the perfect helmet! ... show more

Pros: - The RF-1400 is extremely quiet. Especially when compared to my previous Simpson helmet. - The paint pattern is very well done and the helmet looks great. - The pads allow for decent air flow which is complimented well by the forward facing vents. Cons: - The cheek pads tend to snap loose when putting on / taking off the helmet after installation of a bluetooth audio system. - The side wall is not designed to allow for the clamp style fittings of many popular bluetooth systems (think lexin, cardo, and sena). You can make it work if you're creative, but you risk damaging the helmet structurally. ... show more
