I never realized how expensive rocking chairs were until I decided to buy one! It is really hard to find assembled rocking chairs in my area and there are so many styles I wasn't 100% sure what I would be most comfortable in. I tried the local Cracker Barrel and of all of their display ones only one was completely comfortable and it wasn't in a color I wanted (I sat in every one they had out). I did learn they shape I was looking for, so that got me farther than I was before I stopped by. I also learned that the comfort can depend on who put it together...so off to Amazon I came. Size wise this is slightly smaller than I expected, but I think that is only because I browsed the reviews and the lovely picture of the woman sitting in hers was throwing my brain off...I pictured her to be my height, but she's definitely shorter than me. No one's fault but my own there! To be fair, if I sit all the way back in the seat with my back straight the back of the seat is about an inch from the back of my knees. Unfortunately I tend to slouch down a bit and in that case I feel like it is too short for me in the seat. I got two of these in red (mainly due to the cheaper cost of the color). It is a really pretty red and looks nice with my red brick house so it's all good. One of the chairs was missing parts but the return/replace was super easy. I've only put one together so far (weather and an unrelated injury has delayed the other one). It was pretty easy to put together, although I'd rather have had standard screws for everything, the allen wrench forced me to do most of it by hand and I felt that was unnecessary. The first time I sat in it I heard a creak that sounded like a crack, but upon inspection haven't found any cracks, and haven't heard it in that place since. I did notice one of the seat boards make a creaking sound a few days later when I shifted to cross my legs, but again no visible crack. So I'm not sure if this will hold up over time, or if it is just the pieces settling themselves a bit with use, only time will tell. If they hold up a few seasons I won't be disappointed for the price I don't expect these to be heirlooms. ... show more

This is one case where I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews. We purchased this rocker in March, but didn’t put it on our porch until the end of May. It is mid June, and it has become very wobbly/unsturdy. My husband won’t let anyone sit in it for fear that it will collapse. He tightened screws and did everything he could, but it didn’t help. He said something was very wrong with it. Since he is in construction, I trust his word completely on the matter. I am beyond the Amazon return window, so I contacted the manufacturer. First, good luck reaching them. Their email address bounces back failures. When I called them and finally spoke to someone, they did answer my email. Basically, I’m out of luck. Because Amazon takes possession of the actual product, it allows the manufacturer to get out of the warranty. They insinuated mishandling had resulted in this shoddy rocking chair. Specifically from their email: The management team has taken your case seriously. And after careful review, the following conclusion was reached: Because your order was purchased from Amazon, we do not handle any returns or exchanges from retailers. The reason is because after retailers purchase from us, they have full ownership of the products and are able to resell the products according to their terms which include returns, refunds, and exchanges policies. We are simply following retailers and suppliers business model. Per your inquiry regarding manufacturing warranty, our warranty comes with limited terms and conditions and covers defects in manufacturing and workmanship of the furniture components. Unfortunately, under clause #1 in the warranty states that “Shine Company shall not be liable for neglect of necessary care; improper assembly or mishandling of products, unintended or unreasonable use of products, deliberate misuse of products, the application of paint, varnish, or other chemical coating except where recommend by Shine Co., abuse of hardware caused defects by their assembly.” So this was an expensive lesson. I purchased two of these rockers, plus a small matching table, for my balcony at my Senior Residence. I usually enlist the help of my son to construct furniture for me, but after success with the table, I decided to try my hand at this by myself. I had no difficulties -- the pieces and hardware are well packaged and marked, and the instructions are clear. It was a little tricky to add one part simply because I was assembling this myself, but I managed quite well. The package comes with a very small hex/Phillips head tool, which was fine for initial assembly (do not tighten anything until the rocker is fully assembled). For tightening, I used an electric drill, and I highly recommend that anyone does the same. But, still, the hand tool would do the trick, it would take a bit longer, and would definitely tax your hand and wrist. I had a concern that the chair would be too high for me (I am 5'1"), but I find it comfortable, and my feet touch the ground when I rock forward. I am very pleased with my rockers, and would definitely recommend this model. ... show more

These were such beauties when I originally purchased them (14 months ago). I was so excited to receive them that I didn't want for my husband to get home from work, I just assembled them myself (that says a lot, trust me). These chairs do sit in full sun for about 3-4 hours a day. They have faded significantly (look in first picture to see where pillow has rested and "protected" the coloring). They have also begun to crack in various places or show signs of cracking in the paint. The little covers that fill the rod holes on the sides of the chair have either fallen out and disappeared or all the paint has been removed. These were quite the investment for our family. I will probably research other brands before purchasing these again. ... show more
