Description

Sculpted from over a decade of engineering advancement and a rich lineage of predecessors, the new Vanford tests the boundaries of technology and engineering found in spinning reels. Built upon a CI4+ body for both a lightweight feel and carbon rigidity, the Vanford incorporates a MagnumLite (MGL) Rotor for up to 48% less rotational inertia than traditional rotor construction for a quick response in critical situations. The Vanford features Shimano’s cold-forged HAGANE Gear and many of Shimano’s premium technologies for increased fishing performance and years of durability. Vanford’s SilentDrive and MicroModule Gear II technologies combine to produce a new level of smooth rotational performance while reducing overall reel vibration. Vanford also incorporates Long Stroke Spool technology to increase casting distance while producing a smoother line lay on the spool during retrieval. X-Protect technology and water-channeling construction enhances Vanford’s water resistance and overall durability — an important feature for a reel sure to be found in inshore environments. From ice fishing and drop-shot fishing for smallies in the sweetwater to stalking tailing fish in the flats, the Vanford has no equal. A legend is born.

This is the best feeling reel that I own. Oozes quality and feels like it will last - like a Lexus say. But I fish it back to back regularly with a Pflueger President XT, and I have to say that it's hard to justify that price tag! The Pflueger casts as well as the Vanford (maybe even better), but its retrieve is not quite as good (does not feel as direct, nor does it pick up as fast), both have excellent drag. I don't skimp on buying gear, and might buy another, but it's tempting to put the extra bucks into a better rod - say a St Croix Avid rather than a Premier. Hmm... ... show more

This is my first Vansford, but not my first Shimano. I picked this 1000 series up for my Dobyns UL 7’ rod. Perfect balance! Looking forward for the water to warm. I have many Stradic FL and Ci4+ reels in my arsenal. They are an amazing reel at the price point and this one is extremely light.

This reel has been on my mind for about 2 years since I first tried it out with my buddy in Sarasota... he lend me his rod for a few casts and as soon as i casted it out i could not believe the smoothness of the reel. I had no idea what the reel even was but i took a picture of it and decided to buy it about a month ago (2 years later) after begging him to let me use it every time that we went out.. take it for what its worth, just an honest review... ill still take a baitcaster 10 out of 10 times, but if im going spinning I would buy this reel over and over again before i buy any other. ... show more

This is supposed to be a very good midrange/upper range reel. It's winter here in Maine so I've only just spooled it up. Initial observations though is that it's as well made and smooth reeling as I've been told. Looking forward to using it.

There isn't anything bad to say about this reel. Seems very smooth, drag works great. Great rubberized grip on the crank handle. Cranking with higher resistance spinners or spinner baits up to half an ounce seemed no problem, gears should hold up. Not sold on the claims of longer casting distance because of the long stroke spool. Using side by side with a diawa Tatula reel with a shorter spool, same rods and line, no perceivable difference in casting distance. would be 5 stars but compared to the Tatula, which is about 70 dollars cheaper, this isnt as smooth. That tatula is smooth as butter, Keeping this one, next one will be another Tatula. ... show more
