I assumed all models of the Sahara would have the same features but was incorrect. There is a feature called line marking which is a visual check on how much line is on the reel. If you want to put a backing of 1/3 mono then fill the reel up with braid then this feature makes it easier. This reel does not have this feature. Also it does not have the anti-reversing feature so the only way to stop your reel from winding backwards is to tighten down on the drag. Since this wasn't a very expensive reel and seems to be well built I'll keep it and use it but it just feels a little dishonest that these "lack of features" aren't mentioned anywhere in the ad. ... show more

Why choose any other reel? Honestly, it's smooth, probably the smoothest reel I've ever touched. It's flow is honestly magical. You'll know after you try this one. I used the 3000 for Bass fishing and couldn't have been happier. It has a quick ratio and now I'm using this one to help cast further for Crappie season. Don't settle for less.. I went through about 2-3 $30 reels before I realized this was a smart purchase. Don't see myself owning a different one ever.. ... show more

I've always stuck with Shimano for my spinning reels and there's a reason for that. This reel feels great in the hand, is super smooth and casts a mile. If you're on the fence about which finesse reel to buy, just buy this.

Been buying Shimano Reels for 20 years+. Just bought 5 of these and it seems Shimano needs to reevaluate their quality control. One of the reel handles I could not get to tighten down. After looking, the square plastic nut on the threaded portion of the handle was too long as they installed the wrong size causing it not to screw in all the way. A second reel was missing the washer on the handle causing it to tighten down too much. Fortunately I have plenty of Shimano reels in the parts bin so I was able to use old parts to get them to work but definitely not the quality I've seen in the past. The sahara reels are as smooth as the stratic and symmetre for a lot less money but maybe they need to quit having them made in third rate factories. ... show more

Have a Sahara 4000 on my larger pole, so I bought this for my ultra light after the $20 reel that was on there started going bad. I ultimately chose this reel because I've had good experiences with Shimano reels in the past and this was about the only reel at this size & price point that had a 6:1 gear ratio. I can definitely notice a difference in casting and reeling. Construction looks solid and with proper maintenance will probably never need to purchase another reel for my ultra light pole. Only con is the bail is still a bit tough, but it should settle in after more use. ... show more

Shimano has come a long way in building quality spinning reels. Still a little pricy but you can't beat the workmanship and the thought that goes into each reel. Bought a second and third one to replace my old gear.
