I’ve owned these reels before and just purchased another, and I was so impressed that I immediately went ahead and ordered two of the smaller IX1000R models as well. This reel offers great value for the price, and it performs exceptionally well for anglers of all skill levels. The Quick Fire II technology allows for super easy, one-handed casting, which is perfect for beginners but also appreciated by seasoned anglers. The graphite construction keeps it lightweight yet durable, making it ideal for long fishing sessions without added fatigue. The 15 lbs max drag gives you plenty of stopping power for larger fish, and the 4.1:1 gear ratio ensures smooth cranking with each retrieve. What I love most is the self-centering line and trigger, which makes the entire casting and retrieving process seamless. Removing the spool confused me but actually simple. Tighten the drag then turn spool counter clockwise. Great reel. I like the smooth bail operation. This is not a beginners reel, nor a cheap reel, it will last a long time and gets the job done. The price is amazing. Always loved Shimano.

I love a nice trigger reel, but this one is not as smooth as it should be. Frequently gets a hang up flipping the bale with the reel handle. Have had some tangles because of this also. A good trigger reel allows you to cast and then flip your bale with an easy, smooth, uncomplicated motion. The hang ups mean this can more awkward at times than the typical routine of a traditional spinning reel and bale. It's nice when it works smooth but it should be smoother every cast instead of hanging up. I think these issues are from too much play in the make of the reel. I definitely prefer my larger Shimano trigger spin because it was made with better quality and less play, and does not hang up on me. I also have a much older single motion Shimano trigger spin for salt water that does not have this issue either. Seems to just be an issue with this small size reel set to a low price point

The reel is exactly as described in the listing. It's an old school Shimano that is solidly built, works very smoothly once it's oiled up, with easy to reach rear drag adjustment. Casting was smooth with a nice balance enabling me to precisely cast where I intended to. Nothing fancy, just a solid reel that can land some big bass. Very happy with this purchase. If you zoom in on the attached picture, you can clearly see the Shimano reel. The bass was released safely back in the water after the picture. I catch and release all freshwater fish.
