  • great real for the price.
Size: Gear Ratio: 4.8:1 | Size: 6000
This is an awesome real. Had fresh water Shimano, used it for ocean fishing for the past 15 years and it finally gave out. Bought this one as a replacement due to the baitrunner option. Works great and doesn't tangle up. Had 4 ounce lead on a 10 foot surf road and had no problems. Baitrunner option is smooth and the anti reverse is great. easy to set the hook with this real. The only negative, is the 6000 series is kinda big and will tire you out if you plan on doing a whole day of fishing holding onto your rod and real. Next spring i plan on buying the 4000 series for everyday fishing and use the 6000 for surf or deep water fishing. Told my coworkers, and two of them went and bought the 4000 and have been extremely happy with it. ... show more

Size: Gear Ratio: 4.8:1 | Size: 8000
After 8 years spending money in diferent brands I meet with Shimano , this is the best reel I have in my life. I go out to fish 3 or 4 times to salt water and just rinse with a little bit of water, just one time I did mainance and this reel never had a problem.

  • Excellent I bought three!!!
Size: Gear Ratio: 4.8:1 | Size: 4000
the baitrunner drag on these is great for trolling when you want to be able to set the pole down. The fish comes and hits the bait and doesn't feel you or your boat in a way that makes him spit the bait. The baitrunner drag goes to work letting out line and making a clicking noise so you can tell you are getting a bite. You then just pick up the pole and turn the handle and whamo the regular heavy drag kicks in and you hook the fish. When you are trolling the baitrunner drag is a much lighter drag that is just strong enough to be able to pull your shiner through the water without letting out line. The Daiwa version of this type of baitruner drag sucks by the way. It does not make enough noise to hear well when it is letting out line from a bite and it can't be set light enough for a bass to not feel the pole before you switch over to the regular drag. So it defeats the whole point of having it. The Baitrunner drag must be light enough to conceal your presence to the fish until you are ready to set the hook. If not then the fish just spits your bait out if its a bass which will spit the bait out as soon as they feel you or your poll pulling back for any length of time. ... show more

  • Good reel
Size: Gear Ratio: 4.8:1 | Size: 8000
I like everything about this reel. I already have an older version and my son just bought one. Reels smoothly. It has a free spool button. Most news reels have eliminated this feature meaning you must flip the bale or adjust the drag to strip line. Very annoying. I expect to get a lot of years out of this. ... show more

Size: Gear Ratio: 4.8:1 | Size: 4000
These reels appear to be well built for the most part. I think they're a bit pricey for a reel with so few ball bearings. Time and use will tell if they hold up. The bail arm line pick up is plastic. This usually show wear quickly if the line doesn't align properly when the bail is tripped and line is reeled in under pressure. This is something that needs watching or the line will make a groove there and wear out the line quickly and the part must replaced. ... show more
