The spool gear is plastic!! The bail closes by itself almost by breathing on it. This was my first Shimano reel and probably my last. I'd return it if I could but that window has passed. I'll be sticking with Penn reels from here on.

First, I love the NASCI reel and own two other ones. I needed a 3rd and decided to buy from Amazon since my go to retailer had it on back order. I received a defective reel - most likely the bearing or alignment. The handle and the reel barely spins and comes to a complete stop.
