The tent in the photo was my first one which lasted little over 4 years until a nasty storm took it out! I believe that where the tent is placed plays a big part. It was originally behind the house, under trees, in an area sheltered from major wind. I moved it to a more open area of the yard and noticed that one corner was not anchored down(kids). I believe this was why the wind was able to di the damage you see in the photo. I got a new one a week later and put it in an area that was both a little more open but under a tree and I anchored down all four corners. This one is 2 yrs old and this past winter was brutal. This one did not fly away but there are many areas that now have weakened spots, so I will need to get a replacement cover or duck tape the weak spots. The rivets for the bungies to tie up the door panel, one ripped off the other is not quite off yet but I can see that it is working on it. ... show more

The instructions call it a "Temporary Structure". The ad in Amazon showed a car inside of one. My impression is that the pipe frame is sturdy and will likely hold up for several years. The cover is "UV treated triple-layer ripstop". It is not as heavy duty as another, larger SL model I use as a boathouse but I expect it to last several years as a garden tool shed. It is in a fairly protected area and will see little snow or direct sunshine. The assembly instructions say it requires two people but I did a fair job of it by myself. Two people would have made the installation of the cover a lot easier but most of the time the second person would have just gotten in the way. The two hour assembly time is a fantasy. Adding more people would have just slowed it down. (Peter Principle) The 20 page instruction manual is virtually all line drawings. For someone who is more verbal like me, this left me scratching my head a few times. A few words of explanation about how one step leads to the next would help. Here are a few suggestions for the novice homeowner shelter builder. 1. Prepare a workspace that includes a table to spread parts on, keep the tools handy, and keep the manual open to the current page. 2. Page 3 shows a line drawing of each part with its part number and quantity. The dimensions are not provided and the drawings are not to scale. Each tube has part numbers printed on one end but the digits are not clear and some are missing altogether. Solution is to find one of each part number with a good number printed on it. Then go through all the other tubes and find the matching tubes. Carefully check the ends for the proper bolt holes and taper. They have to match exactly to be the same part number. Group those tubes together and go on to the next part number tube. From that point forward the instructions only refer to the part number and your pre-organization will expedite the assembly process. The pipes fit together well in most cases. In a few cases, the bolt holes were not de-burred sufficiently and the tapered end would not fit completely into the belled end. I had to go at it with a rat tail bastard file (I've waited my whole life to use that term in a serious manuscript.) 3. There are three different lengths of bolts. They all have the same diameter and thread. They differ by about a quarter of an inch. There are a total of 75 bolts and they are all mixed together in one plastic bag with all of the nuts and washers. Find 3 different bins/trays/boxes that can hold a handful of bolts each. Mark each bin with a different bolt part number. Carefully sort the bolts into each bin. You can leave the nuts and washers in the plastic bag, They are universal. Using the wrong size bolt early in the assembly process will cause some major rework later on so get the right bolt for each step. 4. Step 15 on page 20 shows the installation of the side/roof cover. One picture shows the cover stretched out on the ground along side of the assembled frame. Having about 30' of flat ground on one side of the installation site is implied. I had about 3 feet. It still worked but having lots of flat open ground around the installation site is helpful. The next picture show the cover evenly draped over the frame. There should have been a picture of a magic wand being waved over the frame at that point. The peaked roof causes a lot of friction and hangups when trying to pull the cover over to the other side. (Note: this step goes much easier on the curved "Quonset" style roof.) 5. During several of the frame assembly steps both before and after the installation of the cover material, there are diagrams indicating that you should not tighten the nuts on the bolts with the wrench but finger tighten only. There is no further instruction to tighten these bolts in the assembly process. In fact, I found that I left all of the nuts only mildly tight during the assembly process so the frame could adjust when tensioning the cover. After the final assembly step was completed, I went through the entire frame, starting at the bottom and working up to the peak tightening ever nut to a tightness that can only be described as "gut sense tight". I was using a 7/16" socket which had a limited depth. Thus, just about the time my gut said this is tight enough, the end of the bolt started pushing the socket off of the nut. The frame seems solid to me. 6. Once complete, have your assistant/spouse/neighborhood videographer make a video of you driving the lawn tractor out of the shelter and then go pour yourself a cold one. ... show more

I really like this shelter. Although it's a bit difficult for one person to put together, I managed to do it. Instructions are easy to follow. I like the bottom rails to keep the sides stable. I purchased a more expensive one a few years back with velcro tabs to keep everything connected. It broke within a year. The wind was able to rip the sides up. This product comes with ratchet straps and steel tie down wires with screw in anchors. Inexpensive but looks very durable. I am very satisfied. with this shelter. Cons are: The screws provided are different sizes. But the size differences are minimal. It's almost impossible to tell the difference. The front zippered panel and the rear panel are a bit short. There is a large gap between the bottom and the ground. I'd like to see them touching the ground. For blowing snow and rain. ... show more

putting this together is a nightmare as the poles are all smeared and the numbers are barely visible on each pole as though it was grabbed while the black marker was still drying and all of the screws were jumbled all in one open bag. so most of the time was spent sorting through each screw itself - also beware of shipping as my box came extremely damaged with poles all over my yard as the box it is shipped in is not a decent quality and calling shelter logic customer support is a nightmare to get a hold of an actual human being. Edit 11-13-24: SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT BUY THIS. After having it up for less than a month in minor winds multiple of the secured pieces have came off with minimal effort. The tie downs have also broken off and now this thing I spent over a hundred dollars on is practically useless. The metal pole also snapped in half. Save your money as you will be paying to dispose of it and wasting your time setting it up just for it to break in less than a month. Horrible product. ... show more

I've heard a lot of good things about this thing, and I just assembled it, so time will tell as to how it works long-term But for the assembly: we DID manage to get it assembled, and for a family that isn't super mechanically inclined, that's probably saying something. But there were a few concrete things that could have made the process a LOT smoother: * There's a QR code on the instruction booklet for a YouTube link, and somehow... that link doesn't lead to the video for this type of assembly. I had to scroll through a bunch of videos, some from ShelterLogic, some from third parties, before I finally found the one I needed. This feels like something that should have been fixed before shipping, and that needs to be addressed * When I did find the ShelterLogic video, the folks in the video did things in a different order than in the instruction booklet * Putting the part numbers on the tubes was a nice idea, but most of the tubes, by the time they got to me, those numbers had smudged enough that they were unreadable. So, nice idea but poor execution. And it would have been SO easy to put some other way to identify them in the instruction booklet, i.e list the length of each tube in the parts listing! * Likewise for the bolts, they were all packaged together, there were 3 subtly-different lengths, and there wasn't a label that i could see to distinguish among them, so we had a ten-minute break where we had to sort them by length. I feel this could have easily been avoided Like I said, we did assemble it, but these changes would have made it a lot quicker and easier ... show more

In June, 2023 we bought the basic 10 by 15 Instant Garage for backyard storage in Arizona. The sun here eats almost everything but I was hoping it would last a few years anyway. Assembly was not complicated although the instructions could have been clearer. Nevertheless, the shelter went up easily and the shelter did its job well for a while. However, by the end of the year stress marks began to appear where the cover touched the framework on the sides and a couple of winds later the cover fabric began to separate and tear. The sun cooked it a lot faster than I had hoped. In mid-February we decided to ask about warranty for that kind of damage. I filled out the online warranty request form about noon, sending a few photos of the damaged areas. I received a response from the Shelter Logic Customer Service Representative Jay just a few minutes after 3 the SAME DAY approving the replacement of the cover free of charge! He also offered an upgrade to the heavy duty cover replacement covers taking $200 off of the retail prices. THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ITS BEST. Having had a few other issues with other items from other companies, I REALLY APPRECIATE Shelter Logic's response and highly recommend them. Although I cannot afford right now to upgrade, I will plan on doing that in the future when this second cover requires replacement. Assembly not too Hard

I have the knock off of this that I use as a greenhouse. Happened to see these on sale and ordered 2 of them. We started putting the first one together today.....and it went pretty well. The frame tubing is a little sturdier than my other one and each joint is bolted together - which is think it much better. Is it a bit of a fight to line up the holes at time? Yes it sure is. Also a few of the joints - I had to file inside the pipes to get the metal edges of the holes filed smooth so the other piece could slide in.....no big deal really. The instructions are not really bad either.....However, since I've put these together before I already have a good idea how it worked. I'm not as sure if I hadn't would it have been as easy. The cover also seems a bit better quality than my other one. The one main complaint I have are the bolts. There are 3 different sizes that all come together in a large bag. Two of them are so close to the same size you spend time trying to find the longer ones. I wish they'd come in separate bags to save time. Since this one will be staying up my plans are to put filled sand bags around the bottom for stability and to keep any water out. Part of the inside will be parking for a vehicle with the back part a little storage. The floor will have plastic sheeting on it initially until the grass and anything else can truly die after I spray it. Then I'll add a pallet and plywood floor to the storage part. Overall I have great luck with portable shelters - just make sure and get them tied down tight and the cover on well. I also faced it where most of the wind will hit the side and not the end. I've noticed that all these shelters seem to have more issues if wind hits the end where the parts overlap than the solid sides. The tie down stakes are nice and deep and sturdy. First cover lasted four years of wind, snow and sun, replacement covers are pricey.

I'm finally writing a review after 4 years to report on its long term durability because the cover just finally failed in a severe windstorm (it was not sudden, there have been tears forming slowly on the windward side for a couple months so I knew it was time to replace) Overall pretty impressed for the price! The frame is very sturdy and was pretty easy to set up with just an occasional bit of help from my wife in an afternoon. Fits my old race car nicely and a few extra little things in the 10x15. The basic cover got quite a lot of snow, sun, rain and wind here in the pacific northwest. Anytime we got more than 2 or 3 inches of snow I would brush it all off, but beyond that, it was just left to fend for itself. Four years of pretty harsh weather including sun, rain, wind and snow is impressive. The only reason I'm docking it a point is because the replacement canopies are 2/3 the cost of the whole thing. They should not be that expensive. Half the price of the whole thing? sure. But I'm happy enough with the performance I got to replace it. They do sell beefier, higher quality covers on their own site but they get pretty nightmarishly expensive, $700 to $1500ish. I would honestly buy the beefier cover with how happy I've been with the cheap one, but we're going to have to move for med school this coming year and I don't think I'll need the cover much longer than that. Overall though totally worth the price. It's been sturdy and weatherproof and didn't fail catastrophically. I wouldn't get it expecting it to survive a foot of snow on the roof (you'd need to use plywood sheeting to form a more solid flat roof structure) and I can't report on how it will handle arizona sun (but multiple days of 100-110 degree weather it has seen each year) but for the four seasons we do see here in the PNW, 10/10 performance, 8/10 for the price of a new cover. ... show more
