A bit larger than expected. But that's fine, as long as the product does as described. The charcoal gray color is more of a black, depending on the charcoal. The heater features work fine. The fan is a bit loud on the highest setting. I like that it purifies the out going air regardless of what setting it's on. I just purchased this item afew days ago and for peace of mind I purchased the added warranty also. If this performs for at least a year as it is performing now. Pros: - Can it leave it on 24/7 (maybe not recommended) without issue. It's not consistent I do this but it's nice when Canadian fire smoke is affecting the region and no worries about an auto shut off. - Can leave it on pretty consistently and does not get hot (on fan or air dump mode) - The heater was a selling point for me. It did smell at first but think that new car part smell when you first drive a car. I broke my heater in starting at 68 for the temp and by day 7 I was using at 75 with no burning smell. - I can't attest to tobacco odor reduction but I can say marijuana odor is well controlled. I had a leaky apartment and my upstairs and downstairs roommates smoked inside. While it didn't eliminate it 100% I did notice when the sandwich happened I was able to breath a lot better (big factor for purchasing) Cons: - I think I understand the original selling price on this, but take advantage of a sale because you can honestly. - The filters are good I like the microban. But for some people they may be expensive, but a well built filter is worth the price if you can afford it ($65 - $100 depending on type and where it's bought) - The cord is kind of short in my opinion, be nice if it was 8 to 10 feet for a better center placement in a room or house layout. - Customer Service is kind of meh. I called originally because my box was pretty damaged and I had pictures ready also. I told them I just purchased it and was concerned with opening the box (since a lot of companies are particular about this now) and said to open it because I couldn't return. They retracted that statement pretty quick based on some polite words and facts presented to them. Needless to say I kept it, everything was fine. I also had 60 days (holiday purchase) to work with for a full refund. Probably the first time I ever kept a box that long after a customer service representative made me that mad. ... show more

This is the second one I have purchased because I really like the option to heat or cool as it purifies the air and it actually does a good job. You have to keep the filter clean regularly. You don’t have to necessarily change it all the time if you wrap it and clean it good regularly. I have really enjoyed mine. They do a good job for what I use mine for. There is one thing I haven’t figured out… what do you do if you lose the remote? ... show more

The media could not be loaded. So the first one I got smelled so bad - very toxic plastic from the heater. No it wasn’t the filter offgassing. It’s burning wiring inside touching the heating element. Shark faq support for this issue says to let it burn off after a while, I tried for half a day / it was really bad, hurt my lungs, headache / and air quality got down to 60% according to the display - while it was “burning” off and it wasn’t dissipating (Yes I took the bag off the filter). Second one I got had no burning smell at all at startup, worked great until at 1am it was mimicking the worlds most annoying noise from dumb and dumber. There was something wrong with the rotation function. I turned it off and all went quiet - returned. 3rd one works fine - no smell! Purchased a black one at Best Buy and got the extended warranty given the issues with the other two. Love it so far! Wish the beeps were quieter or could be turned off. I also added some raised glow in the dark stickers to the remote so I can differentiate the buttons in the dark - otherwise the flat remote is impossible to see or tell what buttons you’re pushing. ... show more

We have been using this air purifier for about a month now and couldn’t be happier! We have 2 large dogs and as much as we clean sometimes you can still smell that outdoor dog smell! This purifier makes it so you will not smell this anymore! The purifier is quiet and has an auto mode where you don’t have to mess with settings. Another quality feature is the heater feature for those cold days where the regular hvac is not doing it for you!     • Mine randomly shut off

Mine randomly shut off and I had to unplug it for 10 seconds to get it to turn back on. I installed the filter as directed and it was working fine for a couple days. The lack of controls on the main unit is annoying as heck. You literally have to use the stupid remote. If the remote breaks, you can't use it at all. It also makes a decent amount of noise, like any fan or air purifier, but it was quieter than a regular box fan. The controls don't make a ton of sense. In heat mode, it won't control the fan speed in auto. I would set it to heat and turn the fan speed up, and an hour later the fan would have turned itself down, even though the room hadn't heated up to what I set it at. I even tried turning it up to the max heat, and the fan still turned itself down. It's a fan, air purifier, and a heater, and it isn't good at doing any of those things. ... show more
