Features

  • Full of Texas Sizzle
  • Inspired by 1959 Billy Gibbons' Les Paul
  • Warm and focused sound

Description

The Pearly Gates set captures all the mojo of the original set pickups from Billy Gibbons 1959 Les Paul. Seymour discovered the pickup had slightly more output than most PAFs, which helped to give it the extra drive that make this pickup so special. The alnico 2 bar magnet keeps the high end sounding airy but focused, and the midrange emphasis gives it a unique Texas sizzle. It really has a growl all its own, and will help to bring any humbucker style instrument to life. Match with the Pearly Gates neck model for the full Texas sizzle. Hand built in Seymour Duncan's Santa Barbara, CA factory, the Pearly Gates model humbucker uses an alnico 2 bar magnet, nickel silver bottom plate, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options, and is vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance. As with all of our PAF style humbuckers, every Pearly Gates is wound on Seymours original Leesona winding machine from the early Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan for that unmistakable vintage mojo.

  • Wow!
Bought these for a mod project and as a result, it sounds like pro gear now. Wired through some fancy switching, 500K pots and select tone caps, my guitar just sings with warmth, clarity and expression. I couldn't be any happier with this purchase.

  • Best Mass Produced PAF On The Market
I’ve been trying to order these pickups for over 2 months now. Every seller has them marked “in stock” but they don’t . I’ve waited weeks and weeks before finally being told the order has been canceled. Amazon had them with shipping through Amazon. I had them within 4 days. Enough of my shipping woes and onto the pickups… The pearly gates have found their way into every mahogany body, maple cap guitar I have, as well as couple of my MIJ EVH Wolfgang specials (yeah, I’m the one who bought them all up a year ago!) Every guitar has its own tonal qualities and these pickups just seem to magnify the good. No need to crank your mids, these pickups have them in spades. The neck has that spanky yet smooth quality you hear in videos using vintage guitars. The bridge is just a bit hotter so it can really drive an amp and get that “ZZ Top’s First Album” sound. The bridge pickup is also surprisingly versatile. Can be cleaned up with just the turn of your guitars volume knob and gets dirty enough that you can use it for more driven early ‘80’s metal and beyond. Can’t speak highly enough of these pickups . Every time I try to move on and try another pickup, these make their way back into my guitars. ... show more

  • Great as a humbucker
I bought these to replace the stock pickups that came on my PRS SE 35th Anniversary Custom 24 which were somewhat underwhelming. As Humbuckers they are awesome, with all that expected grit and upper end sparkle you'd expect. Switching to single coil however, there was no discernable difference between these and the stock PRS pickups. They sound really tinny, but using a pedal or two helps with that, especially a delay or some type of modulation pedal. If you're trying to have a clean sounding single coil pickup that gives you that Fender Strat or Tele robustness, these are not them. But if all you play is humbuckers, these things are real deal rock stars. ... show more

  • Fabulous Pick-ups!!
I added these along with all new pots, switch, jack, Emerson capacitors, and a few personal set-up options to a Chinese made Epiphone. A buddy of mine who is a die hard Gibson, Les Paul player played it and said it sounded and played as good as his $3000 Gibson. The tone of these pick-ups is nothing like I've heard on other Les Pauls. They are a bit brighter with a lot more mid's that give you that "Texas Blues" sound they are known for. Get them, you'll be happy you did!! ... show more

  • The ‘59 Burst Sound
The zebra pearly gates are awesome. The tone is beautiful. Not a hard mod if you can run a solder iron. Highly recommend.

  • These Sound Great
I put these in a zebra wood guitar that I built and they sound great. The guitar on the left has pearly gates and the one on the right has the Slash pickups.
