  • Stubborn girl wants to fix it herself..... Great book.
Format: Paperback
After 63 yrs of sewing, I learned things about every basic that probably hung me up at one time or another that somehow I managed to skate thru. So far so good. Very helpful. I bought because it's been a while since I sewed, and none of my machine family was worthy after 3 years of non-use. Yet were perfect when last used..... Hmmmmmm.... ... show more

  • A Must Have for Seamstress
Format: Paperback
I grew up on my grandmothers Singer treadle machine. My father fixed it often showing us as he made repairs. The Sewing machine reference tool book is by far the best book on repairs that I ever encountered. The illustrations are fantastic, it’s simple to read and understandable. If you going to learn how to sew, I advise to read this book first hand, so you understand how the machine works. To many beginners give up quickly because they blame the machine. You need to know how to operate the machines first then sew. Definitely give it a huge thumbs up, especially for the illustrations. ... show more

  • Best book explaining Sewing Machine Repairs EVER!
Format: Paperback
As a retired auto mechanic, I have turned my years of experience to working on sewing machines, especially vintage sewing machines. I have a few books that have been helpful through the years. Some better than others BUT this is the only book you will ever need! I was impressed that he not only explains what to do to fix a problem but he explains WHY! With every chapter, I have learned more than all my other books combined. If you have some mechanical experience this book is a God send. If you lack mechanical experience, you can still learn from this book as the information is well presented but experience would be helpful. The book is laid out in a very organized manner and thoroughly covers every part of a sewing machine. I will be buying a couple of them for gifts for my sewing friends. I highly recommend this book! ... show more

  • Really good reference book for basic knowledge about your machine
Format: Paperback
I've been sewing for over 45 years and have had several machines. My husband and I started doing basic maintenance of mine out of necessity and we learned a lot and have done some basic repairs and timing on several machines, including some for other people. While this doesn't tell you how to fix your timing or how to replace parts, it is full of very useful information that you just don't learn via your manual or even searching stuff online. I definitely got some important tips for a few things that I didn't learn via experience or elsewhere and have a better understanding about the WHYS of how things work/don't work. For the price, it's handy information, he has very good photos of examples of how things work and he's been repairing machines for over 40 years! ... show more

  • Better for novice/ inexperienced sewer.
Format: Paperback
I am sure it is full of useful , helpful information for the new or novice sewer. But most of info / instructions for problem solving I already knew. I have been sewing on variety of vintage to new sewing machines for 55 years , starting at age 12-14 till today. I have pretty much figured out problems, causes of some listed issues. What I need to know is basic repair. This doesn’t seem to tell you that. Probably great for inexperienced. Cover nice, lots of instructions for problem solving, but Not what I expected / hoped for my needs. ... show more
