Unless you are like a bank and store hundreds of thousands of dollars in valuables (In which case you should be looking for a larger much more expensive safe) - then this safe is totally adequate for any home use. I have owned Sentry Safe shelf safes before, I still do, and I have been happy with their construction, reliability and security. This safe is too heavy to be moved by an average man- even two men would be hard pressed to move it far. If you want to make it near impossible to move even with several strong men then use the included anchoring bolts. The electronic key is easy to set to your prefered combination, the tamper alarm is able to be set for both sensitivity and alarm length. Even the interior light can be adjusted to your own preference. The 2+ SQF of internal space is plenty of room for what I needed and adding optional storage racks made organizing the contents easy!. I use this safe to store raw bouillon as well as an "investment grade" coin and currency collection that is highly valued so security and reliability were both very important. This safe met all of my needs and exceeded my expectations. The physical key lock is suggested- but if you wish to use only the keypad for access-- simply do not lock the safe with the physical key. There are many features built into this safe that are not mentioned in the description- rather than touch on them all, I will mention just a couple. First is the pressure release of the handle- when any attempt is made to force the handle not only will the alarm sound- but the handle will slip an internal pressure release preventing damage or use of excess force. A nice feature that I did not see mentioned here. Also included is the ability to add not just a primary user defined combination- but also a secondary user defined combination that can be used to access the safe, but CANNOT be used for making changes to ANY security features. A nice option as a security feature when others need physical access but not administrative access! - Purchased through Amazon and I cannot be more pleased. ... show more

Feel very secure that our important documents and valuables are stored where no one but us can retrieve them. The safe is easy to open, roomy, and too heavy to pick up and walk out with. Very well made.

Received this today, was worried it would show up dented, beat up or something. Not a single scratch or dent on it. Helped the FedEx delivery guy unload it as it's a fairly large box and awkward to carry by oneself. Normally I can move things around or get them point to point fairly easy but this thing is heavy even when unboxed. Moved to it's final resting location took a lot of effort by myself so I'm not worried about someone "walking" off with it. Probably won't use the bolt down kit as I don't want holes in it and I have other safeguards in place. I did have to open it using the 9V and factory code as they locked the keys inside the safe. Programmed the additional user code and threw in a locking drawer I ordered separately. I like how you can program the LED duration and ON/OFF of the keypad beep, along with the alarm setting. Hope I won't have to review the fire/water portion ever but this thing is hands down a great buy for the money. Feels industrial and does not look like a toy. ... show more

The safe itself seems solidly constructed and should serve its main purpose: protection against fire and water damage. It is not advertised as "burglar proof" and likely could be compromised by a professional criminal with the right safe-cracking skills. But for most homeowners, this should provide peace of mind for valuables. After a couple of tries, I achieved reliable operation of the electronic opening mechanism. If I had it to do over again, I would probably opt for the non-electronic, traditional mechanical combination lock. When I first installed the AAA batteries needed to operate the electronics (requires 4 and they are mounted inside the safe), the mechanism opened only on an intermittent basis. I thought my problem was potentially "stale" batteries, so I drove to a local hardware store and purchased what I believed were fresh new "copper top" batteries. I installed them...and nothing worked! I called Sentry's customer service (which was helpful and actually had an accurate diagnosis of the problem). They asked me to try the "battery override" mechanism (requires a 9 volt battery typically used for smoke detector, to be attached to external port). This worked! They then told me to get "lithium ion" AAA batteries...which I was skeptical about being the solution. Nonetheless, I went out a 2nd time and purchased a new set of these, installed them, and....voila, everything worked properly! Turns out that the "copper top" batteries I purchased locally, even though "new" and off-the-shelf, were no good. So, ultimately the safe operated as designed and seems a very solid purchase. Perhaps, since the battery issues were no fault of the safe manufacturer, I should rate the safe 5 stars... However, my recommendation would be to avoid these type issues of an electronic locking/unlocking mechanism and go with the mechanical version. The safe itself is the same in all cases...and the fewer likely points of failure, the better. ... show more

Super big and heavy. Has everything you could ask for including fingerprint recognition, alarm, combination, and key. Very roomy for all your personal belongings.

    • Good safe but shipping problems - Company has done a great job remedying the problems.
This is a good safe for the price and seems to work okay. However, the first unit shipped to me looked like it was dropped off a cliff - damaged in transit. It is 139 pounds. That said, the company sent a replacement the same day. That one came through, too, with slight damage and the folks gave me a nice discount. They are looking into a new shipping technique. As far as the safe goes, no problems so far. Smooth operation. The outer case seems to dent easily, though. This is not a $2000 gun safe but is good enough for me and seems secure, water resistant, and fire resistant. ... show more
