I never write online reviews, but this product is a scam. I would rate less then one star if possible. Do not buy this safe, because you cannot use it unless you pay SentrySafe more money. I could not figure out how to set the combination to this safe, so I called the customer service number. I was told that to acquire the combination I had to pay $25 online or $35 over the phone. I purchased this safe in April of 2018. It worked fine for 30 days (of which I opened it perhaps 4 times.) 3 months later I could not open it just hours before I needed my passport from within it and when customer support was closed. I found a solution online that showed me how to hit it with a mallet after entering the code - a solution that is easy enough to find and a well documented issue for these safes, apparently. For what it's worth, a call later to SentrySafe uncovered that this is actually something they recommend you do! (something about something in the door getting jammed.) Fast forward to today when I needed to get into it again and spent an hour working on it to get it open again. I called SentrySafe and they will only replace it, not take it back, insisting that the "hit it with a mallet" is only for older versions and shouldn't work on this model since that's not a problem with this model. (did you catch that?) When I told them that I bought it from them on Amazon, they said that it was impossible as they don't sell on Amazon. So rather than returning the safe, I'm just going to use my credit card's insurance to get a full refund and go out of my way to share the story about how horrible this safe is. Look elsewhere, folks - this is not the safe you're going to want to have to deal with. A few Google searches for "X model safe won't open" might have saved me some serious frustration and will definitely be something I do for the next one that I get. ... show more

I've now purchased 2 of them. Both times had same experience. Safe will not open. Called SentrySafe repeatedly for assistance. No live help provided. On hold. Do NOT buy this item. My experience, "beyond disappointed".

We bought this safe in January 2018. Everything worked fine and dandy until today - August 2019 (20 months later). The safe would not open. I entered the code correctly and could hear a noise inside the safe, but it wouldn't open. After doing some searching on line I found that the internal motors/gears can wear out. The suggestion - hit it with a rubber mallet to try and jar the solenoids and get the safe to open. Thankfully that worked. But now I refuse to shut the safe again as I'm afraid anything in it will be lost forever, or at minimum, cost an expensive visit from a locksmith. I'm going to buy a non-electric safe this time and strongly suggest you do the same. ... show more

This sucker is heavy. Which will make it really difficult for thieves to walk off with. The handle is flimsy plastic and I am worried about it snapping off one day. Other than that. It's very solid and does what it says it will. My biggest gripe is that it arrived dented... The top right back corner is crushed in. I am a disabled vet with a really bad back & knee... It took a lot of work and pain to get this to the 2nd floor of my house to unbox this. I don't want to send it back because it will be incredibly painful for me to carry this back downstairs, repackage, then carry the replacement back up stairs. It's damaged but functional. So I'l suck it up. But I really do wish this was better packaged for transportation via delivery truck. You can see by the photos that they were taken moments after getting it out of the box (Still has styrofoam bits clinging to it) ... show more

We bought this safe from amazon wear house. It was dented but very usable. It came without any paperwork, so we could not open the safe. I called sentry safe company, and they were very helpful. After I was able to prove without any doubt that I was the owner of the safe they in a secure mode of communication sent me the electronic code to open the safe. They are proud of the quality of their product, and give fantastic customer service. Amazon offers great deals at their wear house sight, on tons of bargains. ... show more

So I've bought two of these, I should get to rate it twice! .... the first was in my house for about 3 hours before the combination was locked inside by accident, just after we had started putting important documents inside (totally my fault, my wife enjoyed pointing and laughing). SentrySafe has a procedure where to can call in, give them the serial number and they will give you the combination but these safes are too cheap - no serial numbers printed on them so I needed a locksmith. He took one look at it and quoted me $50... it took him about two hours of brute-force before he finally got it open, he was shocked, I was shocked. Fast forward a year and safe #2 has been going strong (with the combo written down in a couple of discreet locations OUTSIDE of it this time) ... show more
