I could tell that something was wrong with the plastic handle which opens it, but figured it was just a bad design. Yesterday the plastic piece that sits between where you squeeze and the metal latch broke. I had to use a pry bar to bust it open. It was just over 2 years old. I was in/out of it 3x per month max. Less than 2 years old, the internal release latch has broken and I cannot open the safe. Called customer care and was told tough luck, I'll just have to pry it open to access my documents. This safe has been opened and closed less than 1 time a month. There is absolutely no reason it should have broken. Looks like this is a very common issue with this particular model. It's obviously a design flaw that the company should stand behind. They refused to stand behind their product, and I will never buy anything made by them ever again. The media could not be loaded. I purchased this safe in April 2015 for important document and ID storage. I've used it roughly once a month, yet after just 15 months (writing this July 2016), the latch pull on the document safe has broken rendering it useless. Unlike other reviewers noted where one may need to push down on the top of the box to release the latch, my latch broke entirely, preventing access to my files. Fortunately I was able to use two butterknives and a small hammer to jimmy open the box: One knife to insert and gain leverage to see the latch, one to hold up against the latch, and the hammer to tap the second knife, pushing the latch into the 'unlocked' position. I'm lucky I went to access my ID BEFORE I needed it early tomorrow morning, otherwise I may have been even more seriously inconvenienced. Because the warranty for the safe is just a year, I'll need to replace it. Needless to say, I won't be replacing with a SentrySafe model! ... show more

I bought the amazon basics folders and the dry packs to add and still had a good amount of food. I used it for all my bills, cash, and IDs. I live up three flights of stairs and could carry it fine. Fits great in my closet floor.

The storage box is heavy enough so hopefully it's fireproof and waterproof and I hope it never gets tested in real life. The access handle is made of flimsy plastic and the undersized, tiny locking latch is cheaply made of thin metal that won't last too long since the cover is heavy. New, out of the box, I've already had to use a couple of attempts to open the lid using the flimsy access handle. The storage area inside is quite limited and narrowly fits a standard 11 3/4" wide file folder. On the positive side, the keyed lock works fine as it's supposed to. Don't rely on one big safe to hold all your belongings. Get these safes and store them inside one big safe (or more). The big safe adds protection against burglary and fire. Bought it March of 2016. Plastic handle broke. After unlocking it, had to use a long skinny stainless steel tool to slide the metal latch to the LEFT to get it open. Very cheaply made. The handle was shipped broken. SentrySafe seems to have a reputation for shipping broken items. It has been visibly ripped off either by a customer that already ordered and returned it or at the manufacturing plant.
