  • Best in class, first of its kind, and most impressive headphones I've ever used
I come from a background of audio production and general audiophile interest. I've gone through a number of amps, DACs, and a fair variety of headphones/IEMs. I'm well acquainted with EQs, tuning, sound stage, types of drivers, and all the jazz that comes with it. I'm not necessarily obsessive, I just really like good and clean sound with a bit of customization. These are the most impressive headphones I've ever used. Let me tell you why: - Out of the box these have neutral tuning with a slight preference for Sennheiser's tuning where they excel in the mids. This is likely due to a built in DSP helping achieve this performance on closed back headphones. - Wireless with NO compromises. You have all the codecs are your disposal, and frankly it will be enough for most people. Fairly low latency (for Bluetooth that is) and decent bit rate. For those earnest in getting higher quality (including better than MP3 providers can give you) then the USB-C wireless dongle has you covered. It may not be playing true FLAC quality directly into your ears, mind you we're still entirely wireless here, but within the law of diminishing returns you will be VERY happy with that quality you can get out of these. Rest assured. - Support for aux, airplane adapter, USB (wired), USB wireless dongle, and many bluetooth codecs - Compatibility: works on all devices that support Bluetooth or USB-C from my testing. Steam Deck, Android, MacOS, Windows (including Equalizer APO), and Linux (with Easy Effects *chef kiss*). I haven't tried iOS, but it'll work there fine too. - Battery life. Superb. I can't kill this thing, and when the battery inevitably degrades over time it'll still be more than plenty. - Mobile app. Sennheiser withheld no expense. Let's cut straight to the chase: Parametric EQ, and you can share your settings with other people. Fully customizable, but they still offer Graphic EQ if you prefer that. There's even a simple "Bass boost" toggle if you can't be bothered to change the other settings. Only downside: you are limited to + or - 6db in either direction. So if you want to max out the sub-bass shelf then you'll have about 12db to work with (+6 on sub, -6 on everything else). You can combine this with software side EQ in addition to this if you wish, like EQ APO or Easy Effects as I mentioned before. - Controls (swipes and taps on right cup) are fully customizable. - Comfort. It's good, no complaints. I'll talk about clamp force later. - Carrying case. It has room for the headphones, the wires, and adapters, plus room for more. It's also a flat case so it's easy to slip in to a bag. - Sub bass rumble. You won't get this out of the box. You can get a small lift out of the box with the app. If you use other software you can get a great sub-bass rumble that are not muddy. Sennheiser has always done a good job with this. I also appreciate that their "Bass boost" toggle in the app does NOT equate to "louder low mids". Thank goodness for that. We don't play with v-shapes here. Now that I've sang praises for its strengths, here are things that range from "passable" to "okay" - ANC (you saw this coming). To be perfectly clear, it's good. Decent, even. But it's not at Sony's or Bose's levels. They excel in that industry. That said, these work passably and will enhance your music experience. It'll get you the most of the way there. If ANC is more important to you than sound presentation, you have options elsewhere. - Transparency mode. It's good. Not the best I've used, but it's fine. - Clamp force. Yeah, they are slightly on the tight side on my head. Did you know you can fix this without leaving a zero star rating? Yeah, literally just grab some books and stack them side by side slightly beyond the width of your head and put your headphone cups on either side. Go to bed. In the morning the clamp will have relaxed and your problem is solved. You could even use a pot. A tight clamp for one person is a weak clamp for another. So of course they err on the side of tight, and yes you can address it. - Cost. You see the price. It's clear you're paying for R&D more than anything else. This wasn't intended to be the value option. - Swipe controls (right cup only). They work but are a little finicky. Not my favorite to use. TL;DR If you want the best sound you can possibly get in wireless over-ear closed back headphones, these are it. Senheisser has knocked it out of the park. Full stop. If you want the best sound there is but don't care about wireless or closed back, you have cheaper options that perform the same or better. If you don't care about the v-shape signatures you get from the competitors in this space, or if you want better ANC, you also have other options. ... show more

  • Sound quality first.
The sound quality is impressive. And the app allows you to really tweak the sound they you like it. I didn’t think the Bluetooth dongle would make a difference in sound quality but it does on my iPhone. Not a Big difference but certainly a change in sound quality and staging. I still prefer my Mark Levinson 5909s but not by much. ANC is good i suppose (don’t really care that much about ANC) The comfort is good if your ears aren’t too big. Controls are as expected: swipe and tap. Build quality is a little flimsy. The leather-like material seems thin and could easily crack so good idea to gently clean them regularly. Overall it’s the sound that sells these. ... show more

  • Best ANC, Audiophile, Bluetooth Headphone combo.
Best consumer ANC bluetooth Audiophile headphones you can buy. If you want those 3 qualities exactly (ANC, Audiophile and bluetooth) there is nothing quite like this. The only thing that would make these absolutely plerfect would be an improvement on the ANC, but I if the cost of that is sound quality I can definitely live with the current level of ANC these provide. I believe that after certain amount of cancellation there is diminishing return. The comfort is also excellent. While I've have wear more comfortable headphones these are some of the best for the ANC category, much better than the Sony XM6 for example. The latest QC 2 Bose does beat them out on this category tho. Also, the fact that these bring a dongle for connectivity is a blessing allowing you to get 92k on any USB device is actually pretty good. I can't believe other headphones don't do this. ... show more

  • Best Wireless Sound Available for the Apple Ecosystem
When you listen to hi-res lossless music through the BTD 700 dongle to the headphones, you can finally have a truly magnificent audiophile-level experience on an Apple device. Here's the thing though - these are not a connect and go solution, like the AirPods or Air Maxes, they require some adjustments to enjoy the hi-res codec. Most notable of these adjustments it to make sure you have "Hi-Res Lossless" enabled in Apple Music; without that feature enabled, there's no lossless source in Apple Music to send to the Sennheisers. Secondly, you must ensure that you're playing music through the BTD 700 dongle to the HDB 630 headphones. In Apple Music this is an easy thing to ensure...once you know where to look. When playing music in the app, select the specific track in the album you're playing, and locate the icon in the bottom-middle of the screen, which typically displays a headphones icon. Tap that icon, and ensure you select the BTD 700 - again, not selecting the dongle will allow the Apple Music app to play directly to the HDB 630 headphones, which bypasses the hi-res lossless features offered by the dongle and not available by just using the headphones. Once you get these settings mastered, as well as those organic to the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app, the listening experience surpasses that offered by any other in-ear or over-the-ear headphones currently on the market - hands down, without a doubt. In fact, once the settings were dialed in, which was admittedly frustrating to learn and it's easy to miss an important step, the headphone/dongle combo rival my more expensive open-backed planar magnetic headphones that I listen to on my Mac Mini through a FIIO desktop DAC, using Apple Music as the source. Hard for me to believe it, but it's true. There was a time that there was no way in the universe to get such high-quality music from an Apple mobile device through wireless headphones, but no longer. So, why the four stars? As I mentioned, setup was a bit frustrating and took longer than it should've. I don't assign blame to solely Sennheiser, though more detailed instructions would be incredibly helpful; Apple is at fault here too. It always feels like you have to pry high-res music out of an Apple device, it never seems to come easy or straightforward. In a post-hi res Apple Music world, I feel that this should no longer be the case, but sadly it is. As for the fit/comfort, they're top-notch. I've always felt that my Air Maxes were way too heavy for long-duration listening. Add to that, the Apple approach of not angling the ear cups, and using a very slippery head band, makes the Maxes, for me, incredibly uncomfortable to use. In fact, I ended up selling them because I just got tired of trying to ignore their flaws. Although I've had the Sennheisers for only a few days, I've worn them extensively and can attest to their comfort for long-duration listening sessions. Battery life is fantastic as well, even when taking advantage of hi-res lossless listening, which due to the size of the data stream, always uses more battery than a lossy data stream/pair of headphones. So, all that written, if you pay attention to the things I mention here, for the first time ever, you can have simply amazing wireless sound from an Apple iPhone and/or iPad. ... show more
