After having these headphones for the past year, I have to say that these are definitely 5/5 headphones. I'm not sure what some of the complaints are about, but I think some folks with the lesser reviews must have gotten faulty devices, because the only time I've ever had a connectivity issue was when I mistakenly had both my speakers and my headphones connected. As a matter of fact, I've actually found myself more annoyed by them automatically turning on and connecting when I had literally just turned them off to put them away. There's something about the "on-ear" function that senses when you're wearing them. When the ear muffs go face down in the case, the headphones will sometimes think that they're being put on your head. If you're doing it in a fluid manner, they won't turn back on, but if you turn them off, set them down, and then put them away shortly after, they'll probably turn on. I believe the noise cancellation is solid. When I don't have any music playing and just have the noise cancellation active I can't hear much at all. Normal conversation is definitely out of the realm of possibility. If someone's talking to you and you're not looking straight at them, you wouldn't know it. You can hear some of the louder traffic that passes by if you're walking down the street, but if you have your music on you're not very likely to hear anything but larger/louder vehicles. I would say sound over 80 dB and you can start to hear things through the noise cancellation. I've used these for casual gaming on my PS5. You have to connect the headphones directly into the controller, but I'm pretty sure that's just a Sony thing so that you'll buy their PS5-specific headphones. Anybody I've played with has never complained about not being able to hear me and anyone I've asked says I come through clearly. I asked people specifically to know if they would work well with games as well as music, and I think they're great for both. There is good spatial sound. In video games you can hear things like directional footsteps and know whether someone is in front of you, coming around a corner, or behind you. With music you'll hear background sounds that the recording picked up or different notes or instruments that you've never heard before in songs you've heard a hundred times. Now, let me be very clear here: these are not $1,000+ "audiophile" hardwired, gold plated, top-of-line headphones for top-quality production. I'm just a regular consumer who loves to listen to good music, with great volume, bass, and body. For all practical purposes, these are absolutely fantastic. The size of the headphones is reasonable. Not too big, not too small. I've seen some complaints about the ear cups being too small, which from one standpoint I understand. On the other hand, they're actually really comfortable. The material is soft, the headband is comfortable, they're adjustable, and for me, they've never been too tight. They were maybe a bit tight for the first week or so I had them, but nothing memorable or headache inducing. The material on the ear cups, while comfortable and soft, does make me wonder when, not if, the material starts to break down. If you sweat, prepare for your ears to get hot and sweat. The material isn't absorbent at all, so you don't have to worry about your headphones getting soggy, but sweat will definitely build up on the cups and it can become a little uncomfortable if you're walking in a bit of heat. On the same note of not being too tight on your head, they're also not terribly heavy. I think they weigh a bit more than the old school Beats - when they were still owned by Dre - but I can say they're far, far superior to the Beats. You can feel it and you can hear it. The case they come in is solid and compact - as compact as it can get for headphones that don't fold in half. It fits in my backpack just fine and it definitely won't get crushed unless you're really trying to damage the case. It would take a full body fall and the case's first thing to give way would be the zipper. Even then, there's not a wide enough range for the case to entirely break down and crush the headphones. I believe that if you slipped on ice, for example, and fell straight on them, they would survive. I compared these to the XM5's and I think these have a deeper bass. I think the soundstage/spatial sound is more in depth with the XM5's, but you most likely wouldn't be able to tell unless you've got a very keen ear or you're directly comparing them side by side. I have no idea why these are currently priced at $450. A year ago I spent around $300 for them. It was a great deal then, and I would probably spend $400 again if I ever needed to replace them. If I do look to get "nicer" headphones, Sennheiser will definitely be a brand I'll look for first. The software for Sennheiser is not that great, but it's been improving since I got the headphones. You can adjust noise cancellation, wind cancellation, highs, mids, lows, bass, etc. You can adjust your functionality, such as how your touch controls function on the outside of your headphones - swiping up will turn the volume up, tapping it will pause the music and so on. You can answer or decline calls with it, but I just do that on my phone to not accidentally pick up a phone call I don't want. If you have your own settings and you've got them turned up beyond what they reasonably can do, you'll sometimes get a skip in one of the speakers. Mine just so happens to occur in the left ear, but once I corrected my settings it stopped happening. I do wish the volume could be turned up another notch, but I'm pretty sure if they were to go any louder then they would cause real hearing damage after about 20-30 minutes. I listen to my music loud and have had no worries about hearing damage, which I've been paying for as time goes on, but if you adhere to realistic settings then you will be just fine. If you start to go over on your setting boosts in certain categories, you'll hear it start to get a little muddy or tinny depending on the setting. If you hear either of those, even a little bit, change your settings. The first firmware update took 10 or 15 minutes and your phone screen has to stay on during the download and installation otherwise it will cut out for some reason. So plug in your phone and make sure you have your screen on and the app open for the duration otherwise it gets interrupted. It took me a couple tries to realize that. For anybody looking for headphones in the sub <$500 range, these are almost perfect. Mine get regular use, the battery is just insane, the sound quality is solid and comes through in a consistent manner. You can tell when a song has been recorded or produced on a lesser scale than some others. They can really make certain artists/songs/producers stand out more than others. They also play every genre of music well. If you think of a sound system, a 12" sub will have a slower reaction time than a 10" sub, for example, so if your hip hop sounds better on a 12" and your tighter bass sounds come through a bit better on a 10" sub, these headphones feel to be right down the middle. I say "feel" and not "sound" because if you've ever had a sound system in your car then you know the vibrations you get from that strong, amplified bass through your subs. You can almost replicate that feeling with good headphones and these don't weigh heavily one way or the other. ... show more

Awesome headphones for $200

I'm guessing I am coming at this from a different perspective than most people. My main headphones are the incredible Sennheiser Hd650s with a DAC/tube amp. But I wanted a pair good for traveling. One of my biggest complaints with active noise cancelling headphones is the sound quality has often been sacrificed in the name of quite. These Momentums have had no sacrifice in the sound quality department. Are they as good as HD650s? No, but the philosophies behind them are completely difference. The soundstage is the biggest difference where the Momentum's do sound a bit sterile and like you're in a basement or recording studio, but completely in line with other ANC headphones. But connectivity across multiple devices was easy. The accessories that this comes with are also really helpful. A carrying case, a charger cable, an aux cord for computer/planes, and an adapter. The sensor allows for auto pausing music or muting calls if you take your headphones off. Sometimes it's a little wonky, but it's never annoying. The touch sensor sometimes self disables, but otherwise it's helpful to be able to control without your phone/device. Getting the Sennheiser app allows for a graphic equalizer (5 band fully customizable) and customization of how much noise control you have, so in quieter environments you can open up the soundstage. The app also has a bass boost which is a nice feature. It's nice to have that level of customization, even if for most of the time, I'm using them for traveling with full noise cancelling effect. I used them on planes recently and it pretty much completely blocked out the ambient engine noise. The announcements were sometimes barely audible depending on how loud the music was. A really loud baby cry did get through. They're reasonably comfortable, just a small amount of pressure after a few hours. I was surprised this product has a 4.1 average given my experience with these headphones. Zero issues that some of the negative reviews described. * I wouldn't use these for exercising without changing the ear pads, they're a leathery material and I suspect you'd ruin them quickly with sweat. ... show more

I had the most annoying week+ of trying to make this BEAUTIFUL headset work. I really wanted these to work. But you can only try soo many Reddit fixes before you're beyond pissed off and completely over it. First: I couldn't hear the trial music they play on the app when you first set up your sound profile. It was silent. Removing and re-downloading the app didn't help. I disconnected the headset from everything, reset my phone, and tried 4-5 more times before I got anything to play. When it played, it was too quiet to change anything meaningfully. Second: This headset gives you 6 options in your sound section to choose from, which is annoying. Some are named the exact same and do absolutely nothing when chosen. The most annoying part was the only option that provides side tone will give you the worst quality sound you've heard since your 90s Walkman- - paired with that tiny round headset you found at goodwill or in your garage. To use this headset with side tone and have decent sound, you have to disconnect the mic in your computer settings all together and use another mic that will provide you side tone Now you need more gear or a mixer to connect your headset to your mic. The whole ass point of this headset was to game with friends, or be able to answer phone calls while being productive around the house. It's hard for me to function socially when I don't have side tone. That's on me but...come on. This was an expensive purchase. It should be able to do both... like my $80 Corsairs do easily. Forget hearing footsteps. If you're on discord using the headset's mic, your sound quality doesn't allow for differentiation between spells in an ARPG.. or footsteps in a pvp game. You cannot use the headset for talking and receive quality sound. I wouldn't even say quality. They are simply unusable. Thirdly: Speaking of my Corsairs, they were LOUD at volume 30. I've probably never gone over 50 on those. With this set, I had to be on 95-100 to get where my previous headset would've sat at 20. What. I could NOT get any volume out of these and I tried enough things to make you hush. - -you, who is saying I did something wrong or skipped a step. No. Nope. I did it all and it was over a week of futzing, alll the trial and error before I finally sent them back. Which was sad because I've lusted after Sennheiser for ages. Even when I was finally able to adjust my sound profile in the app, I couldn't get them to be loud enough with clear sound to function. I opted for my air pods over these and if you've ever done that on your gaming computer, air pods sound like you're inside a dumpster 40 ft away. I preferred this to the Sennheisers. Sad. Reason four: They dropped all Bluetooth connections 10+ times a day. My house is 745sq ft so even if I was walking around my house and not sitting at the desk with my phone/computer next to me, they should have worked for most of the home. At the very least, I should have been able to go 10ft away from devices. Nope. They didn't stay connected even directly next to devices-- for reasons I couldn't figure out. So forget about any movement. No trip to the fridge 8 feet away between matches. I was stupidly willing to look past this part because, like I mentioned above, I was lusting after these for a while before finally shelling out the dough. If I could just tap the Bluetooth button to quickly reconnect devices, I would have suffered with my snazzy Sennheisers. But when this happened, I'd have to restart my phone, restart/reconnect the headset, and reconnect phone Bluetooth. I even had to redownload the app to be able to connect two separate times. For the computer, I'd have to go through the process of finding/connecting the device after resetting, and then selecting the proper option in the drop-down sound options on my computer which changed places and was super annoying. This took way too long, especially if I was on a call or in game. Having to tab out of a game to go through that.. sometimes every hour... was maddening and I def lost a lot of matches and did a few desk-slams. Eff that. Five: In addition to costing a lot of money and being absolutely useless for my purposes (or any purpose), this headset also had unreliable manual touch options on the side. They only functioned half the time. Joy. Six: I reached out to Sennheiser for assistance and advice on day one. It was possible I simply needed a replacement after scouring their FAQ on the website. They returned my enquiry 28 days after I sent them a request. This was almost 3 weeks AFTER I had returned them. And this wasn't during the holidays. 28 days later and with a bunch of garbage. An unhelpful reply that had nothing to do with the issue I had selected in their drop down options. Like. Not even remotely helpful. Did they read the ticket? There's no way. Maybe I had a faulty pair? Who knows but I think probably not because I found a shocking amount of people that had the exact same issues. These should have been recalled but enough people will stubbornly make them work and the company still makes money off those who don't return them in the end, either from laziness or denial or an abundance of money so they don't need to make the effort :P 1 star for aesthetics/battery life. I did not have to charge them once- out of the box- and I did a lot of troubleshooting in that time. They are comfy, yes, but I now have a cheaper pair of Logitecs that are comfier with an equivalent battery life. I gave up on the multi-device idea and went with the Logitec Pro x 2 with LIGHTSPEED These were plug and play. No BS. Comfy, sharp looking, work AMAZING with discord and whatever else I've connected them to. I'll stick with swapping out my headset for my airpods for phonecalls for now because we just aren't reliably there yet, it seems. ... show more

Amazing sound quality with little distortion. ANC isn’t the best tho

For me personally, the sound is better than my AirPod Max usb-c. The eq setup through the app is really intuitive and nice for people who don’t understand that stuff. The color is stunning, they’re so comfortable, I’ll also say, I find AirPod max comfortable for all day listening, and those are said to be so heavy it’s uncomfortable, and I disagree. I’ll say these are lighter. The have such a clear sound with little distortion, the bass can be super punchy, I can’t attest to the battery life yet, but I listen to music almost all day long, and I haven’t seen an issue yet with charging at night, I don’t think it’s been a low battery so far. I got them on prime sale so worth it. I would say they’re comparable with Apple AirPod max for sound quality so for me the price was justified. The one down side, is the ANC, is not the best. I don’t care about that at all personally, but if you’re looking for like silence with noise canceling, or a flawless transparency mode you won’t get that with these. Full transparency mode still gives muffled sound, you get the covered ears voice effect from yourself, and when anc is on I could still hear a box fan subtly at low volume, but I’ll say, the only perfect ANC I’ve ever encounter is the AirPod Max, they sound like I have nothing on my ears my voice sounds like my ears aren’t covered. Noise canceling isn’t a deal breaker for me and if you prioritize incredible sound over ANC features, these are great. I listen loud, and no distortion at high volume. ... show more

Good sound with some problems

- Sound I'm not a major audiophile, but I've had no issues with the sound quality from these headphones. They sound good, and I've had no problem getting them to stay connected to whatever device I'm listening on. - Controls I have a few complaints here. The touch-controls and on-head-detection both feel a little gimmicky to me. I wound up disabling the on-head-detection because it wasn't reliable, sometimes detecting my head and sometimes not. The only available auto-off functionality that I could find is based on that detection, unlike other headphones I've used that will shut off when unused. The touch controls work, but I've had more than a few false positives where I'll bump that headphone and change things, or it will detect a double-tap as a single tap. I'd much prefer at least the *option* to use the single button to pause/play/skip. - Connectivity I've never had any issues connecting or staying connected. If anything, they're a little *too* good at connecting. I have multiple headphones/earbuds based on what I'm doing, and if I'm connected to these headphones and my earbuds, these will repeatedly steal the sound output back even if I tell my phone to output to my earbuds. I've tried simply disconnecting the headphones' bluetooth connection, and it will re-connect automatically unless I outright forget the device. ... show more

Ignore the complaints, these are the best.

Let me say upfront I am a long-time audiophile. I've been immersed in all things high-end audio for more than 40 years, and listened to a lot of stuff, including headphones. Until recently, I've avoided all BT/wireless headphones because they presented too much compromise for my tastes. Noise cancellation adversely effected audio quality and/or gave me a headache. Bluetooth simply didn't cut it for prolonged enjoyment because of the lower, compressed resolution and frequency. But, that all changed in late 2022. On a whim, I tried the newish Sony WH-1000XM5 and was surprised at how good they sounded. The noise cancellation was excellent with little of the rushing elevator sound--and boy, the sound was terrific. For the first time I felt like using a wireless headphone wasn't a big step-down from wired. The M5's soundstage was truly impressive, rivaling my Focal Clear MG wired 'phones. Plus, the M5s were much lighter, more portable, and a bit more fun. The new Sony's were a magnitude better than the older Sonys, as well as anything wireless I'd heard before. That got me wondering: If the Sony's are this good, maybe something by Bowers and Wilkins or Sennheiser would be even better. After all, Sony caters to the mass market, which is generally not that discerning when it comes to audio. Whereas, B&W and Sennheiser typically aim more for the smaller, high-end, audiophile market. So, I started comparing the MX5 to the new B&W Px7 S2 and new Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless. Here's what I found: In the past, like the Sonys, the B&Ws and Sennheiser wireless 'phones were disappointments, falling far short (for me) of their wired, non-NC counterparts. No longer, because the new models are dramatically better. Without going into lots of detail (something audiophiles love to do), both the Px7 S2 and the Momentum 4 are a leap forward in every way than their predecessors. Are they better than the MX5, yes, but not by much. As others have said, the MX5 has better software, better NC, is very portable, and pretty comfortable. For many, the slight compromise in audio quality may not be a big deal. I could easily live with the MX5. However, my priority is sound quality since I seldom use NC, and, even if the software of the B&Ws and Sennheisers is only acceptable. Therefore, it came down to the Px7 S2 vs. Momentum 4 for me. The Px7 S2 is much nicer to look at, exuding high quality. The Momentum 4, not so much. In fact, they look like an MX5 knock-off with a few upscale touches. The software of both the Px7 S2 and Momentum 4 is mediocre at best, albeit functional. Now about the sound. The Px7 S2 sound really, really good. Bass, Midrange, Treble are all top notch, if not perfect. They're fun to listen to, with a wide soundstage and energetic dynamics. That said, they're tuned to emphasize the lower frequencies a bit too much for my tastes. At first, this makes music and voices more vibrant and robust, but, over time, it gets tiring, and you're realize what you're hearing isn't all that accurate. If I hadn't listened to the Momentum 4s, I probably would have been quite happy with the Px7 S2. But, I did listen to the Momentum 4. It edges out thePx7 S2 and MX5 with its overall excellent balance and accuracy. Nothing is exaggerated: voices, instruments, timbre, tone are all just right to my ears. Maybe not as exciting as the Px7 S2 upon first listen, but the Momentum 4s seduce you the more you use them. There's no need for lots of equalization, or fiddling to get the sound right; its all been done at the factory. Besides the accurate representation of voices and instruments, the Momentum 4s are monsters when it comes to soundstage. The placement of everything is wide, yet accurate. You can feel the space and air between different instruments, and where the singer is in the studio or stage. Layering and detail are pretty amazing considering these are bluetooth, closed-back 'phones. Sennheiser (Actually: Sonova, because Sennheiser sold their headphone division to this maker of hearing aids in 2021.) did their homework when it came to the Momentum 4. Plus, that 60 hours of battery life is icing on the cake. Let me say this in conclusion. You won't go wrong with any of these three headphones. They're all great. I preferred the Momentum 4 because it represents the overall most satisfying package for the money, but you might prefer the Px7 S2, or the MX5, more. One last word, regarding the buggy software of the Momentum 4: I found none. With the latest updates, Sennheiser/Sonova seems have fixed the issues of poor connectivity and consistency. After over three years with these headphones, I feel like it is time to give an honest review. I have owned many headphones over the last five decades, made by several manufacturers. The three brands that have stood out as the best, and come with reasonable prices, giving me the most satisfaction have been the professional grade headphones made by BeyerDynamic (whom I consider the best overall), Sennheiser, and Sony. Note I said PROFESSIONAL Grade. None of these brands, nor any brand, of consumer grade headphones, will be great. That isn't what consumer grade headphones are made for. This is unequivocally true of any form of wireless headphones, especially Bluetooth, as the technology is simply impossible to make as high quality as wired. My experience with consumer grade headphones is limited, as I am a musician, and love to listen to Jazz, Classical, and Progressive Rock, which are all music types that are best experienced with true high-fidelity audio equipment, though you need not go insane with the ultra-premium audiophile junk that is marketed with baseless and often downright dishonest BS associated. Just solid copper wiring, well engineered amps with over-spec'd solid state components (or if you prefer the warmth of tubes like I do, go with tube circuitry). Note, I never wear headphones in public - I don't like looking like a martian or an idiot as some people seem to do. Rather, I listen to music at home, and as such, only listen using professional "audiophile" grade wired over the ear, open-back headphones in an otherwise silent room for the most pristine listening experience. So, with all that said, it should be noted that these are not TRUE Sennheiser headphones, but merely Sennheiser branded, under license, that are NOT MADE BY SENNHEISER, but rather made through a partnership with Sonova Holding AG, a Swiss hearing aid company that acquired Sennheiser's consumer audio division (including wireless headphones and soundbars) in 2021, with the two companies collaborating to continue the brand's consumer products, while the original Sennheiser remains focused on professional audio. Sennheiser's wired headphones, especially their high-end audiophile models (like the HD 600, HD 800 S, IE 600, IE 900) and professional gear, are still made by the original Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG, a German company focused on Pro Audio and high-end wired consumer gear, while their general consumer wireless headphones are developed by Sonova AG under license, following Sonova's 2021 acquisition of Sennheiser's consumer division. Key Distinction: Sennheiser (the original company): Still German-owned, focuses on professional audio (microphones, conference tech) and high-end, audiophile wired headphones, manufactured in places like Ireland. Sennheiser-hearing.com (Sonova): The consumer side (wireless headphones, soundbars) is operated by Swiss hearing aid giant Sonova, using the Sennheiser brand name under license for their audio products. So, if you're looking at premium wired headphones from Sennheiser, look to the wired HD 600 series or IE series, as they're from the original Sennheiser; and if you are looking for Bluetooth headphones, be aware that the Sennheiser brand is only a name and does not reflect on the quality that Sennheiser has long been known for as they are from the Sonova-operated consumer headphone division. Likewise, be aware that bluetooth is a VERY problematic technology, with frequent problems with connecting devices, random disconnects and audio dropouts, glitches and noise. In short, bluetooth with NEVER give you professional grade audio. Note that whilst you CAN connect these headphones using an audio cable, you will not get true Sennheiser quality audio out of them, as they just are not true Sennheiser headphones and have lower quality drivers (what the the actual speakers are called), and the audio circuitry remains part of the circuit. Pros: Acceptable, arguably above average audio quality - though this is a VERY subjective matter, and is especially present when used as wired headphones, but DO NOT EXPECT Sennheiser pro grade audio out of these. You will NEVER get that out of Sennheiser or ANY Bluetooth headphones as Bluetooth and the digital circuitry is inherently trouble prone, even with a direct wired connection, as the electronics introduce both active (crosstalk interference when powered on) and passive (impedance issues due to inevitable circuit design). The noise suppression is okay, but definitely below par. Both Bose and Sony do significantly better in this regard. Build quality is another major issue with these headphones. The padding comes apart as it is merely glued, and whilst the ear pads are replaceable, the only available replacements appear to be third party. However, the headband pad also comes loose - I was able to repair mine using a a syringe loaded with glue, and a metal spudger to tuck the fabric back under the edge. Disappointed with the reliability and quality

I ended up returning these headphones after owning them for less than a month. The right side completely stopped working while I was listening to music. The touch controls on the right ear cup still worked, but there was no audio coming from that side. I tried reconnecting, updating, and factory resetting the headphones, but nothing fixed the issue. I also had a few smaller issues while using them. The automatic noise canceling adjustments would make a beeping sound every time the headphones changed settings, which became annoying when it happened multiple times within a short period. The touch controls would also occasionally pick up my hair and accidentally pause music or change settings. My biggest disappointment was the overall feel of the headphones. For the price, I expected them to feel more premium and sturdy. They are lightweight and comfortable, but they did not feel as durable as I expected from headphones in this price range. The best way I can describe it is that they felt closer to a cheaper pair of wireless headphones rather than a premium product. The sound quality was excellent. The vocals and instruments sounded clear, and the noise canceling worked very well at blocking out most noise. However, for the price I was disappointed and would have a hard time recommending these headphones based on the reliability issues I experienced.
