Love my MacBook but hate the fact it has just a couple USB-C ports on each side and no SD card or standard USB slots. I’ve had dongles before that increased the MacBook’s capacity but they were attached with USB-C cords that dangled and tangled. In the long run, you sacrificed portability for convenience. This unit plugs into the 2 USB-C ports on the side and adds a variety of USB and memory card functions to the mix. In my case, I attached it to the right side ports so it technically faces upside-down. Even though I can’t see the power-on light, I know it’s working because I can see the green glow of the power light shining down on my desktop. And it’s designed to look like it came with the MacBook (unless you have the newer, colored versions) and even fits nearly flush to the side. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that this is a hub/dongle and merely plugs into the USB-C slots on your MacBook. It provides no power on its own unless you plug in a power source. To that end, it has a pass-through charger port (it’s the first USB-C port available) so if you’re attempting to power yet another port off of this dongle be aware of that. Worth noting, this will NOT work if you have a cover on your MacBook. Covers that come up the side will interfere with plugging this in. As for pricing, it was the lowest priced one I could find at the time and works just as well as the more expensive ones I’ve used in the past (these were originally $100 or more at one time).

This adapter is a real bargain. It is easy to use and has extra ports so I can do more jobs at once. I can back up and charge. It is the best deal, I really am happy with this purchase.

Considering the size of this hub I wouldn't want to have it attached to the side of my laptop for long periods of time, especially when my laptop is on a stand and the weight of the device is being supported by the two USB C ports. You can tell that they are being pulled a bit and it makes me worry that over time it would damage the ports. I bought this to connect two external monitors to my macbook but I received a variant that only has one hdmi port so it's sort of useless to me. If you're curious, you can use one of the USB C ports to connect an external monitor while also using the HDMI port, which does allow you to have two external screens using this hub but it looks a bit janky to have an adapter plugged into a hub hanging off the side of your tiny laptop. If you only need a single HDMI port then it works fine.

Update: 11/2025 The ethernet port failed after 5 months of use, the support I received from Solare was outstanding. It took a few emails to verify that it was indeed a failure of the internal circuit. The concern and care of the support staff was superlative. Marina was especially helpful and took care of the issue, professionally and quickly. In this day and age, it is hard to find good support of product, yet this company and staff went above and beyond to make sure that the situation was remedied. And it was. Thanks to the team at Solare. Updated to 5 stars for the support. Outstanding This device has the connectivity I was looking for on my new laptop (Dell 288V). It drives both monitors with the lid closed on the laptop which is what I was looking for. There is no apparent lag, stutter, or blinking of the monitors with this unit which I would find very annoying. This unit is a keeper. UPDATE: This worked fine for about 2 weeks, now the stutter has appeared. The mouse is all over the place and the keyboard disconnects frequently. Yes, these work through another port on the laptop. I'll try it a bit longer, then unfortunately, I'll have to return it. UPDATE 2: The lag referenced in the above appears to have been related to load on the USB-C interface to the laptop or the laptop itself. I was running two monitors (not 4k), audio on web browser and a backup to a SAN over the ethernet connection, along with the keyboard/mouse combination through the USB-A ports. I've moved the keyboard/mouse connection and managed the load. Note again, the lag could have been the interface on the PC, not the unit. Hence, I've upgraded the review to 4 stars.

I purchased this for a MacBook Pro M4 14". I needed to have a hub with enough space for a security card reader using a USB-A and not make me give up all the other ports This model places one USB-A on the end of the hub. The other USB-A with the smart card reader only blocks the memory card readers (see picture). The manufacturer says this is not compatible with a case. IF you have a thin enough case, it should fit (see picture) For my case, I chose: https://a.co/d/ag08DCu Oh, and a side note: When plugging the hub into my MBP, I had to gently reposition it for it to lock into place. Same with the HDMI adapter. I had to play with it a bit before it locked into place, esp. since there is an angle where the HDMI cable will feel like it's locked in but isn't. Maybe I just got a good one...

I use this 6‑in‑1 USB‑C adapter daily with my MacBook, and it's been reliably solid so far. It gives me multiple ports in one compact device, which is super practical when I need to connect several accessories at once. The connection stays stable and everything works as it should. The only real downside is that it takes up both USB‑C ports, which can get inconvenient if I also need to charge or plug something else in at the same time. Overall, it's a very useful adapter—I'd recommend it if you don't mind sacrificing both ports for the extra connectivity.

Plug-and-play setup is seamless. However, if you leave it plugged in, the device seems to cause my laptop to go into some sort of sleep or hibernate mode, and the display won’t come back on. This happened with both my home and work laptops. Neither laptop had this issue before using the device or after extended use once the device was unplugged. After just a day or two of use, the laptop can get stuck in this mode, and the only way I’ve been able to get it working again is by unplugging the device and holding the power button for about 30 seconds. Definitely not convenient! My recommendation would be to unplug it whenever you’re finished using it. Other than that, the plug-and-play setup is super easy.
