I purchased the Expedman automatic cat litter box on July 14. The setup was easy and quick. I replaced a large cat box planter my cat really liked. I had a small litter box from when he was a kitten and placed it nearby. He is just over 2 years old and weighs around 14 lbs. I left it that way for a week while my cat became familiar with the automatic cat box. He learned how to make it clean pretty quickly and seemed to love to watch it. He continued to use the other litter box. After reading some of the reviews here, I took the drastic measure of removing the small litter box he was using. Given no choice, he reluctantly started using the Expedman. He now will complain if it doesn't clean well enough. That means the bag is too full. I have to change the bag and wipe it down a little every 3 or 4 days. I highly recommend this cat box. He loves not having to step over something he has done earlier. While it is cleaning, he goes around to the back to see where it is all going. He seems so pleased that he has his own 'toilet' now. Update: The closure bin door where the litter is emptied into the bag has broken in the same place twice. I contacted customer service and a replacement was promptly sent free of charge. That was end of September, 2024. On New Year's day, 2025, it broke again while I was changing the litter bag. After some thought, I decided to replace it with a Litter-Robot. I don't know what I will do with the cat box that works well except for the closure bin door comes off, making it useless. I think Expedman has a design issue since the doors broke in exactly the same place. I need to be able to depend on something I paid a few hundred dollars for to work for longer than a few months. I don't recommend this cat box because it is too expensive to break after a few months of normal use.

First of all the positive: easy to maintain, my cats took to it easily and it’s a game changer coming from the scooping kind of litter boxes. But: Sometimes the barrel doesn’t rotate back into the correct position. It does not happen always, and when it gets stuck, I only need to unplug and it corrects itself. However, I am not always around to unstuck it for my cats. I have not yet figured out why this happens. But it’s a headache. It works like 20 days like a charm, and then it gets stuck three times in a row and then works great again, I just bought it less than a month ago, so maybe there is something I am missing. But the manual doesn’t address this problem. I was about to send it back, but then it worked again flawlessly. So I thought to give it another try, because except for this issue the item is fantastic and made my life as a cat mom SO much easier. Update: two months after purchase the barrel gets constantly stuck after one of my cats go potty. It wrongfully indicates that the waste bag is full EVERY TIME! I need to open the compartment, close it, unplug the unit and it finally goes back into the position once I plug it into the outlet again so that my cats can use it. Not the freedom I was looking for. I will have to hunt down another model and hope for more luck. I am not sure if I will keep it or just cut my losses and throw it away once I invested in a unit that actually works.

Packaged fantastically, Simple set up, extremely quiet, cleans super well (scooping ability), and Odor Control it is awesome I don't smell anything at all. My cat was scared of it took a few days of me putting poop she made in the old box into the new box, so she would want to go in it and bury the poo poo, then 3 minutes later after she exited the cat box ( and if she reentered it before the self-cleaning started it would just reset for another 3 minutes after she exited it again) it would clean and my cat would just stared at it, lol. But on the 3rd day she finally put her front legs in and I gently pushed her in to it ( without me putting the poo poo in it ) and she went to the bathroom. I would pick up her old box during this whole time and put it in the laundry room ( this was after she did her business in the morning and then I would bring it out every two hours so she can go if she needed to ) so she would be more prone to use the new box. I also on the 3rd day, I put my hand in the litter and vigorously scratched at it, kicking it to the side of the box, so it made like a cat scratching the sand, to make a hole to do their business in, and her ears perked right up and she came right up to it very curious and going oh there's litter in there, I forgot when I had to cover up my poo poo and ran out of there after covering it, lol. So doing all these steps will help your cat acclimate to the new moving thing that moves after they exit it. Now my only downside of it is that it is a small area where the litter is put. What I mean is, they have enough room to spin around in but there body is not straight they are kinda cramped in it, but my cat has been using it on her own and when I leave the house and there are no poops or pees outside of it, so it does work for my cat but if I made one to sell to people I would make it much larger but what do I know , not much because it works for my cat and I am so so so happy with it. 10/10 best thing I ever bought. Great investment for my cat. I do anything for my cat.

My cats took about a month before they would use this. I kept weaning our litter pans away to force them to use this until we had just one hooded litter box and one open one. We were taking a 3 week trip to Europe so I promised my friend that comes over and checks on them daily I would get it down to two scoop and one robot box. I like it and it's very easy to use/clean. One con is daily there will be a clump of waste at the very back that I have to reach in with my scoop and dislodge, so it never sorted out when the barrel turned. Once I do that it easily turns and dumps as it should but this is daily and I don't think it's just the type of litter because I've tried different brands and it still does this. I do like how easy the bag is to empty and the barrel is to clean with the hose/water outside. Good purchase. I need to order more waste bags now.
