    • Nearly perfect!
Inspired by Seiko's 1969 Speedtimer, the world's first self-winding chronograph, the Seiko Prospex SSC911 is a beautiful watch with an interesting link to history. The solar quartz movement (calibre V192) gives it a 6-month power reserve when fully charged. Add to that sapphire crystal, AR coating on the dial, 100 m water resistance, date display, power reserve indicator, and chronograph functionality, you get a versatile go-anywhere, do-anything watch that combines practicality with great looks. The SSC911 is shown as sold-out on the Seiko website and by several resellers, fueling speculation that this model is discontinued (though Seiko has made no such claim; the confusion may stem from the discontinuation of the similar-looking SSC813). Nevertheless, it appears to have driven up the price as enthusiasts and investors are snapping up this model while they can. The 41.4 mm diameter makes it seem like a larger watch but it doesn't seem to wear that large on the wrist. However, if you prefer a smaller version, look for the new SSC961 offering a 39 mm diameter. One thing to note is the lug width of the SSC911 is 21 mm, not 20 mm as shown in the description above. That's perhaps the most annoying issue with this watch - if you like to swap the bracelet for a strap you know that 21 mm versions aren't as common. The only other issue to note is that the data window is small and sits fairly deep under the dial, making it hard to read. The SEIKO SSC911P1 Men's Prospex watch came and it was easy to tell it was a return. Everything seems to work but hate knowing I wasn't the one to pull all of the protective covers off. After day 2 and I really like the look and functionality. Hoping the seller (Fresh Pearl) will let me return if anything goes wrong with it. ... show more
