This is my first automatic, and my first Seiko, and I'm completely impressed. I know this is just a field watch, and it's not the least bit fancy, but it really is a work of art as far as I'm concerned. It sounds silly, but I do just stare at it sometimes to see the second-hand sweep or the balance beat its little heartbeat. Day colors differ, black for Monday-Friday, red for Saturday, blue for Sunday. Lume is good, hands and hour indices are lumed, but not the numbers. Numbers are raised, giving them an amazing depth. The dial on this is listed as a grey/blue, but it definitely appears more grey. The crystal (Seiko's Hardlex) is slightly domed and just beautiful. I haven't run it down from the 41-hour reserve yet - except for overnight this thing is on my wrist all the time! Movement on the second-hand is so smooth (6 beats per second). Setting is simple, allowing for date/day (first click, then CCW/CW), and time (second click) changes. I think the specs on the 4R36 movement say -35/+45s per day, but I'm seeing about +5s/day. Incredible. The NATO strap it came with is not comfortable for me, but I picked up two canvas straps and a leather strap for <$15 each (Bisonstraps FTW!). This thing looks great with canvas (dark grey and khaki), but dresses up nicely with a tapered leather strap (dark brown). I was concerned that it might be a bit too thick, but even on my small-ish 6.75" wrist it's just fine. Water resistance to 100m makes it safe for everyday wear, hiking, general outdoor activities. Pictures included, but getting the dial color in a snapshot was tough - the Seiko site for this SRPG31 shows an accurate representation of the color. I'm new to mechanicals, but the price on this just seems so reasonable for the marvel that it is. Couldn't be more pleased with this watch! ... show more

    • I don't wanna take it off
Watch is beautiful, comfortable to wear all day, and accurate. The only issue I had was that the strap was a little long, as I have skinny wrists. Being a NATO strap, I was forced to cut the strap and melt it to keep it from catching on everything. You can get cheap straps anywhere, but since this is a specific blue/gray color I was worried about matching. This is a mechanical watch so you need to wind it if you don't wear it for a few days, or get a watch winder. Easily my new favorite field watch. I think I paid just under $250 and for that price it's a great deal. ... show more

Two years later, this thing has held up wonderfully. I bought it as a gift, and the wearer has been wearing it to work daily at a grocery store for a couple years. Minor scratches but all things considered, it has held up extremely well. Another great watch by Seiko.

    • Good everyday watch
After a recent trip to the beach, I realized that I really didn't have any watches water resistant enough to take with me either to a beach, or even to a neighborhood pool. Something has to change. Enter this watch. Having previously purchased the SNK809, and wearing that for a while, I was looking to upgrade, but I didn't want something that was going to be too big on my small arm. Good thing that Seiko released a mid-sized watch for normal people. The 100M water resistance is a bonus, and I can attest that it works just fine in pools, at least. It has a "blue saturday" and a "red sunday" in the window, and the overall look of this military-inspired watch is clean and clear. The lume is bright enough to see in the early morning, and the automatic keeps time very well, much better than the SNK809. There's not much more to say. The included watch band is decent enough, though I've replaced it with a series of quick-release bands that I change out depending on how I'm feeling that day, and what I'm doing. Overall, I would recommend it, and I'm happy with my purchase. ... show more

Bought this watch six months ago and the date adjustment is broken and won’t turn or change the date. I collect watches and rotated it into my collection so have only worn it a few times. Expected more life out of it, disappointed.

Great watch. The lume is awesome. Keeps time about 5 seconds fast a day. The only problem is with the company who sold it didn't fill out the warranty card so I can't make any claim on the 3 year warranty.

Solid watch with a great dial. Grayish blue with a little texture, the applied numerals catch the light and are easy to read. Field watch vibe, but dressed up. I put a tan leather band on it and it’s at a whole new level. I have 12 watches and I wear them all, but this one is on my wrist three out of seven days. ... show more

    • Exactly what I wanted.
Nothing I dislike. A mechanical movement does not keep time quite as accurately as a battery-powered quartz movement, but Seiko tells you this in their literature. Don't expect perfect accuracy from a spring-driven movement. That said, I can go weeks without adjusting and be less than one minute off. I wear it all day every day, and it functions perfectly. If you're not going to wear it (or keep it in a case designed for self-winding watches), this isn't the watch for you. If you like the old-school movement (and I love the clear case-back) and will wear the watch daily, then this is a great watch. It's simple, classy, and costs a lot less than most automatics.
