Hard-to-beat Samurai for the money

As owner of a regular, black dial Samurai (SRPB51K1), this special edition (SRPF79) features a number of improvements such as a ceramic bezel insert, sapphire crystal with cyclops magnifier, finer and more consistent brushing applied to the "cheeks" of the case, better polishing applied to the case, better and stronger lume, and of course, the beautiful dial with the manta rays that appear to glide under the surface of the water if this was even possible. The dial is absolutely stunning! The contrast between the dial and lumed bits is striking, and the bezel delineated by thin stainless strips complete the look into a design that is unapologetically toolish while also packing some bling. All markers on the dial and chapter ring align perfectly. The bezel rotation has a very stiff action, much stiffer than I remember from the regular Samurai when it was new. This doesn't bother me as I expect to break in over time. The accuracy of the 4R35 movement is, as expected based on my several other 4R35 and NH35 pieces, outstanding. I wear the watch constantly except for chores around the house, and the watch runs exactly accurate as compared to my phone. On the time grapher, the watch runs at +7 seconds/day face up but because of its position dependency (befitting an inexpensive movement), on the wrist it averages basically 0 second per day. Let's be clear, it's not a COSC movement, but Seiko knows how to adjust these 4R35s and extract the most performance out of them at a fraction of the cost of a Swiss equivalent. It's super easy to adjust if need be, something I've done on the SRPB51K1 and which of course I wouldn't attempt as confidently on a mega-dollar luxury watch. I don't care too much for the silicone strap supplied with it since it's too long for my 7.25" wrist, so I wear it on a Seiko bracelet, Miltat bracelet (pictured) or inexpensive "leather" strap (pictured). In summary, much has been said about Seiko no longer offering value, but this Samurai is proof of exactly the opposite! My experience with Seiko watches and movements has generally been outstanding.

The perfect 200m Diver

Having followed a couple of 'influencers' on You Tube, I ordered this watch knowing that Seiko's QA has slipped over the past few years. Would I receive one with the dreaded misaligned bezel? A grey market? A knockoff instead of the real thing, especially at 25% off the list price? All I can say is this: If it's a knockoff, it sure has me fooled. Both the case back and the dial indicate the watch is made in Japan and the bezel aligns perfectly with the markers on the dial. It is a gorgeous, perfectly proportioned watch, and pictures do not do the work-of-art dial justice. Crown is large, easy to grip, and makes winding (when necessary -- this is an automatic) and adjusting the date and time a breeze. Lume is outstanding, definitely the winner of the 'lume wars' in my modest collection. I'm finicky and usually do not prefer date complications on a watch and typically do not like a cyclops on my crystal, but they are executed with aplomb on this Seiko and give it a Rolex-esque vibe while maintaining the classic Seiko style. The high-quality silicone strap is soft and supple and is thankfully not a 'lint grabber' like some silicone straps. 120-click bezel feels oil dampened and is second only to my much more expensive Oak and Oscar in quality and feel. Finally, losing less than a second per day, this Seiko is my most accurate mechanical. To sum up, I like this Seiko Prospex so much that (1) I bought an identical one for my nephew as a graduation gift, and (2) it's all but cured my watch jones (for now). If you're on the fence, have no fear. It's the real deal and it's a real winner. Definitely best-in-class at this price.

One of Seiko's Best Looking Watches

I had never bought a Seiko branded watch prior to purchasing this one, but there was a lot of hype from YoutTube reviewers about how great a value proposition the watch offered, and I couldn't agree more. This watch is a beauty, sits well on my 7.25" wrist, and has a solid feel reflecting a watch more akin to luxury/dress rather than a dive/tool watch. My only knock is the 4R35 movement in my watch tends to run about +12 seconds a day, which is within Seiko's tolerance for the movement, but coming from watches that use solar quartz for the movements, it took some getting used to. None the less, you get a sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, a beautiful ocean and manta ray motif that just seems to come to life right before your eyes, all housed in a brushed stainless steel with polished accents, and on a supple yet taught rubber strap with signed metal keeper and buckle making this watch feel like it is truly a special edition. I highly recommend the Dark Manta Ray "King Samurai"!

Versatile accurate and comfortable to wear

Mine loses only 5 seconds a day which is OK. I bought a Save the Ocean blue dial version with a blue silicon strap which is smart and comfortable and reduces the weight without making the watch feel top-heavy. I really like the cyclops, it magnifies the date well enough for me to read it without glasses. I like the fat crown, very easy to use, but the knurling on the bezel means it is too slippery to rotate easily, although I never use that feature. The biggest drawback of the watch is the short hour hand, it is too short to indicate the hour at a glance and at night, when you just have the lume to go by, it can be difficult to tell what hour it is. But the lume itself is super bright and lasts all night. I like the look of the watch, it can look both smart and sporty. I have bought a Miltat steel bracelet as an alternative to the silicon strap, but so far I'm liking the silicon.

It's a King Samurai....

This has instantly became my go to, favorite watch. It's BEAUTIFUL. Wears just right, not big at all on my 7.5 wrist! It's so easy to read, I love the magnifier over the date window, it's perfectly aligned and just what these old eyes needed!! If you're like me, looking and debating on what to buy.... you've arrived!! Great seller, answered all my questions in minutes, not days!! Came in the seiko box with a blank warranty card to boot!! VERY GOOD BUY!!

This Seiko is crazy good - visually and regarding time keeping. I just came across this watch while searching for another Seiko and it caught my eye and so I ordered it. As mentioned it is really good looking and can keep up with much higher priced watches. When I set it according to internet-„Atom Clock“ and compare it two days later, the Seiko is 6 seconds late which is a phenomenal result. This is what I used to to with my 23 year old Rolex GMT Master 2 and regarding precision both are perfect. Lets see what the Seiko is like in 23 years ;-).

Watch lacked special edition packaging, documentation, and was improperly shipped

The watch is beautiful but the unexpected and improper packaging indicates to me that it is a gray market product. The watch was literally bouncing around in a "standard" Seiko box, the package lacked the box and documentation consistent with a special edition. The vendor has a little card in the package where you can request the warranty card. NO! Additionally, to bouncing around in a Seiko box, The watch was bouncing around loose in Amazon packaging. It was really a disappointment.

My new favorite daily wear!

I've been a watch collector for a couple of years and my favorite type of watches are dive and field watches. I own Omega, Breitling, Hamilton, Longines, and even Casio watches. I'm a watch addict! This time I decided to purchase my first Seiko and I'm glad I found this one! Right out of the box it's mesmerizing! I can't believe I haven't bought any Seiko's until now. Not gonna lie, they blow a lot of the higher end watches out of the water when it comes to craftsmanship and features. I have no doubt this beautiful watch will last in and out of the water for years to come. I have a 7 inch wrist and this watch doesn't feel too bulky or look too big. The band is extremely comfortable. So far it's spot on with NIST time, but time will tell later (no pun intended). Made in Japan, love it!
