One thing worth mentioning is the dial. It has a slightly reflective/sunburst effect that changes depending on the light. At first, this threw me off because it can look more “flashy” than a pure tool watch. But after wearing it for a while, it really grew on me and now I actually like that it has a bit of personality instead of being completely flat. I also switched to a black rubber strap, which made a big difference. Excellent quality. The Seiko version of the "NATO" strap is extremely comfortable. Visibility of the hands for time-telling solved my poor vision issues. It seems to be losing ~ +/- 7 seconds a day...not bad for a watch in this price range and all I need for accuracy - easily adjusted for every few weeks. If you require better accuracy, buy a 40.00 Casio quartz watch. I prefer a mechanical watch that will run for forty years (at least) without needing a battery and paying 600.00+ for +/- 1 second a day accuracy in a mechanical watch is crazy IMO. The ability to manually wind the watch negates the need for a winder. If I wind it 25 times in the morning and the evening - it's always running. ... show more

Great watch for the money. This is my daily watch and I have no time keeping problems since I wear this watch to bed. If you don’t wear this watch daily it takes 20 seconds to set the time. It’s possible to set the time wrong since the date will change when the watch “thinks” it’s night time. If the watch is rolling “day indicator” during the day time then you have to rotate 12hrs. I have smaller wrist but this is the biggest watch I would wear. ... show more

    • This watch runs terribly - not within even factory specs!

Unfortunately, after a few months of not being able to wear this watch for more than a few hours, I decided to regulate it myself, as I had done quite successfully on other Seiko watches with the same movement. Something is direly wrong with this watch! It was losing over 150 seconds per day, with widely varying beat errors in different positions. I could not get the beat error to stabilize. It would be 0.2ms in one position, turn it another way and that would jump to 5.5ms. Unacceptable and unserviceable. Unfortunately even before I regulated the watch myself, seiko would not let me register the watch nor honor the warranty, all due to the seller being grey market. Amazon needs to do much better than this, they should not allow purely grey market shady offers to be selling these parts bin pieces. I wish I could give this watch negative stars! - I should add I'm a huge fan of seiko and own 4 other watches in the same range with the same movement. All of those perform wonderfully. ... show more

This is a beautiful watch! It's also my first mechanical watch, and it's a great one to start with. I really like the NATO band. I haven't had any problems with it running down just by wearing it daily. I find that I lose about 10 to 15 seconds a day. Every couple of days I just set the time again. I'm very happy with this watch and I'm glad I got it. My watch didn't come with a manual, but I highly recommend going to Seiko's site and downloading it. It gives you a lot of great information. It's how I learned all the features and how to set it. For instance, the day changes around midnight, but the day of the week changes completely by around 4:00am. It has to run through the bilingual day of the week before reaching the next day of the week at around 4:00am. I also didn't know you should keep mechanical watches away from magnets because they can get magnetized and lose accuracy. There's a ton of good information like that in the official manual from Seiko. You're looking for the one for the 4R36 caliber (that's the movement identifier). ... show more
