  • Gorgeous Seiko Watch Worthy of the "Seiko" Brand Name
Color: Black - SSG010
This is just flat-out a gorgeous watch. It has a dress appearance and is best used as a dress watch, although I am sure some people use it for everyday wear. It has a black face with all gold hands and markings, and then a mixture of gold and silver for both the case and the band. The method of coloring on the case and band make it so that the watch will look either more gold or more silver, depending on which angle you are viewing from. If you look carefully at the out ring of the black face, you will see concentric trace markings which add an elegance to the watch but are probably also part of the antenna system the watch uses to keep time. Yes, that's right, this particular model, once you set it up, connects with the nearest official time broadcast and keeps itself adjusted to that signal, the reason why this particular model is more expensive than other Coutura watches which look almost identical but do not have this radio function. And, yes, hooray, that same timing function keeps the date accurate month-to-month as well! The watch has a nice heft to it, but its bracelet is comfortable due to the use of soft curves, and this makes the weight less of an issue. It has one of traditional Seiko clasp functions where you squeeze the outside of the band to unlock the bracelet, and then a double-fold mechanism angles out, allowing you to remove the watch while reducing the possibility of dropping it since the band always stays connected (great design). The stem is a screw-down type so that you unscrew it first before engaging it, and then screw it back down when you are done making adjustments. This is a beautiful watch that really does seem worth more than you pay for it, and it has an elegance that is squarely in the mid-range Seiko line-up. It's terrific. But I would be remiss if I did not mention that this is a complicated watch to set up when you first receive it. There are four case buttons plus the stem that you must use in a very specific order to set the time zone, then ensure you are picking up the radio signal from your area, and making minute first adjustments. It's not impossible, but it's not for those in a hurry, either. You have to take your time to read the instructions very carefully and follow the procedures exactly as stated, or you won't get the watch into its initial state. And it really is a bit complicated: you basically end up using all the controls to do different things, need to set the watch next to a window for 12 minutes at a certain point in the sequence (I'm not joking), and then make sure you press the correct buttons in the correct sequence. I must say it took me about 30 minutes of studying the instructions and then about 30 minutes to actually follow all the procedures, a couple of which I had to re-do because I had done them incorrectly. But the ultimate payoff after that is that the watch keeps time by itself from that time on, and all you have to do is ensure it gets some light now and then (the battery is solar-powered, but has a very long cycle to it and can be charged even with indoor light). I wouldn't let the complications at the beginning make you hesitant to purchase it, but just be aware that you need to do the startup procedures at the beginning. A truly beautiful watch, it's one that you will want to try to take care of because you'll want to keep it for a long time. Five stars. ... show more

  • execellent watch in many ways
Color: Black - SSG010
I am very satisfied with this watch for the past 3 years. It keeps the time correctly with elegant styling (Sapphire crystal). There is almost no need to hand adjust the time (date). The time zone adjustment is great. There is no need to change batteries since it is solar powered. I learned not to adjust the time zone during flight. I also learned if the date is wrong, use manual adjustment and not waiting for automatic corrections. Other than the two things, the watch requires no maintenance. ... show more

  • My new favorite watch
Color: Black - SSG010
I wanted a solar watch with a silver & gold tone bracelet and a black face so that I can wear it when that color combination seems most appropriate for the clothes I am wearing. I alternate between wearing this watch and a Seiko Excelsior solar watch with a silver & gold tone bracelet and brown face, or a Rado DiaStar automatic/self-winding watch with a silver tone bracelet and black face. This watch immediately became my new favorite, and not just because it is the newest. I leave it on the window sill when not wearing it so it gets natural light all day to stay fully charged. During the wee hours overnight, it receives the radio signal that ensures it is set to the precise time. Unlike some other reviewers, I find it extremely simple to operate: selecting the desired time zone requires only a few clicks of a button. It also looks great, even nicer in person than in the photo accompanying the product listing here on Amazon. I'm very pleased with the purchase and the watch, which arrived in excellent condition and started up very quickly after being exposed to a strong indoor light source. (I am not rating its water resistance because I tend to err on the side of caution by not wearing any of my watches while showering or swimming.) ... show more

  • Read the manual.
Color: Black - SSG010
What a beautiful watch. Bought this for my husband and he loves it. It is a good idea to download the pdf file on the manual. Watches aren’t set the way they were years ago. Not a problem though. Very satisfied with our purchase.

  • classy looks
Color: Black - SSG010
Looks stunning and keeps good time. I do find though that if I use the stop watch function when cooking on BBQ around six PM the stop watch minute dial is obscured by the hour hand

  • Great Seiko watch
Color: Black - SSG010
This is a great looking watch. Some reviews say it’s really hard to setup the first time, but if you set the proper time zone it will automatically set itself, no problem. My only small complaint is I had an old Seiko Coutura t62 and wore it in the kitchen (still do) for seven or eight years because it has been the best professional kitchen watch I’ve ever owned no leaks, no problems at all but this Coutura says don’t even shower with it on. I was hoping for the same 10 bar waterproofing as my last Coutura but it’s not the case, larger buttons so areas where water could blow through the seals I guess. No problem I just carry both and switch them as my work day goes along. Great value for the money as I got it for about half of the suggested retail price. I will probably stay with Seiko in the future if this one holds up as well as my other one. ... show more

  • Beautiful watch... the photos don't do it justice.
Color: Black - SSG010
I was a little reluctant to purchase this watch, but the price dropped and I couldn't resist it. The photos used to advertise it don't do it justice. Beautiful watch, elegant, refined. While not overly heavy, it still feels solid. The gold/black face is stupendous. The black outer ring frames the watch well. The band is impressive. The watch arrived on Tokyo time. I downloaded the instructions and made the changes to my current time zone and everything was correct. I did have a little trouble at first trying to synch the watch with the radio signal, but eventually was successful (even when one of my other Citizen watches couldn't). Disclaimer: The signal strength for my area was very low at the time and the other two radio controlled watches I have has some trouble as well. I will definitely consider other Coutura watches to add to my collection. ... show more

  • Awesome watch with a few quirks
Color: Black - SSG010
Elegant and well made, good value. The solar power works as it should. When I opened the box, the hands started to move with the time zone being set to GMT +10, I assume where it was made. No problem, it's not that difficult to reset, just read the directions or look online for help. The radio time works. There are only 2 things which IMO could be different. 1. The main second hand is for the stopwatch function. There is a little second hand that is used to keep time. 2. No setting for DST in the perpetual calendar function. You have to change time zone when switching from DST and back. I knew both of these issues but bought it anyway. Neither is a deal breaker for me. The time zone isn't difficult to change, so doing it 2x/year isn't bad. Large second hand preference probably makes the stopwatch harder to read and it is easy to get used to. Maybe they could have the large hand perform both time and stop watch functions? Still a 5 star item to me. ... show more
