  • Gorgeous Seiko Watch Worthy of the "Seiko" Brand Name
Color: Black - SSG010
This is just flat-out a gorgeous watch. It has a dress appearance and is best used as a dress watch, although I am sure some people use it for everyday wear. It has a black face with all gold hands and markings, and then a mixture of gold and silver for both the case and the band. The method of coloring on the case and band make it so that the watch will look either more gold or more silver, depending on which angle you are viewing from. If you look carefully at the out ring of the black face, you will see concentric trace markings which add an elegance to the watch but are probably also part of the antenna system the watch uses to keep time. Yes, that's right, this particular model, once you set it up, connects with the nearest official time broadcast and keeps itself adjusted to that signal, the reason why this particular model is more expensive than other Coutura watches which look almost identical but do not have this radio function. And, yes, hooray, that same timing function keeps the date accurate month-to-month as well! The watch has a nice heft to it, but its bracelet is comfortable due to the use of soft curves, and this makes the weight less of an issue. It has one of traditional Seiko clasp functions where you squeeze the outside of the band to unlock the bracelet, and then a double-fold mechanism angles out, allowing you to remove the watch while reducing the possibility of dropping it since the band always stays connected (great design). The stem is a screw-down type so that you unscrew it first before engaging it, and then screw it back down when you are done making adjustments. This is a beautiful watch that really does seem worth more than you pay for it, and it has an elegance that is squarely in the mid-range Seiko line-up. It's terrific. But I would be remiss if I did not mention that this is a complicated watch to set up when you first receive it. There are four case buttons plus the stem that you must use in a very specific order to set the time zone, then ensure you are picking up the radio signal from your area, and making minute first adjustments. It's not impossible, but it's not for those in a hurry, either. You have to take your time to read the instructions very carefully and follow the procedures exactly as stated, or you won't get the watch into its initial state. And it really is a bit complicated: you basically end up using all the controls to do different things, need to set the watch next to a window for 12 minutes at a certain point in the sequence (I'm not joking), and then make sure you press the correct buttons in the correct sequence. I must say it took me about 30 minutes of studying the instructions and then about 30 minutes to actually follow all the procedures, a couple of which I had to re-do because I had done them incorrectly. But the ultimate payoff after that is that the watch keeps time by itself from that time on, and all you have to do is ensure it gets some light now and then (the battery is solar-powered, but has a very long cycle to it and can be charged even with indoor light). I wouldn't let the complications at the beginning make you hesitant to purchase it, but just be aware that you need to do the startup procedures at the beginning. A truly beautiful watch, it's one that you will want to try to take care of because you'll want to keep it for a long time. Five stars. ... show more

  • Very happy with the whole process of my purchase
Color: Black - SSG009
Nice watch...Good price includes box, warranty documentation and quick setup instructions but you do need to download or view online manual because of a decision by Seiko. Watch is great but wish that Seiko did not use the second hand to show charge instead of live seconds and leaves seconds in a very small sub window...I am happy with seller and they answered a question that I had within hours. ... show more

  • execellent watch in many ways
Color: Black - SSG010
I am very satisfied with this watch for the past 3 years. It keeps the time correctly with elegant styling (Sapphire crystal). There is almost no need to hand adjust the time (date). The time zone adjustment is great. There is no need to change batteries since it is solar powered. I learned not to adjust the time zone during flight. I also learned if the date is wrong, use manual adjustment and not waiting for automatic corrections. Other than the two things, the watch requires no maintenance. ... show more

  • Gorgeous timepiece! But won't sync..
Color: Black - SSG009
One of the best looking watches I have owned and I've had many over the years. Blue accents really make it stand out. Definitely a bit on the flashy side, especially with the use of high polish, but I actually prefer high polish on the center of the links, as it is easier to re-polish if it gets scratched with a polishing cloth or the like. It's very hard to touch up brushed finish on bracelets. Very nice manly size, bracelet is super comfortable, and it's pretty light for a steel bracelet watch at 6 oz., with 4 links removed. Quality is also exceptional for a watch of this (sub $300) price. One reviewer said you could get a Citizen that's better quality than this at a lower price...BS!! I have had Citizens at this price point, and they do not compare, the bracelets are thin, noisy, hair pullers and the crystals are virtually NEVER sapphire, almost always mineral with Citizen. This watch sports a sapphire crystal and to me that is one of the most important features of a watch. I loathe crystal scratches! It ruins the watch for me. Now for the bad. It will not sync. I tried multiple places, inside and outside, front of the house and the back. It won't do it. I didn't remove a star because I could never get any of the other radio controlled watches I've owned in the past to sync either. I have had Citizen radio controlled too. No dice. It must be my location in the Northeast... But no biggie, I just set it manually, which is easy enough to do. But I highly recommend this piece, especially for under $300. You will not regret it. ... show more

  • Amazing Watch...but complicated to set
Color: Black - SSG009
This is an amazing watch! It is very sleek and stylish, and I truly enjoy wearing it. However, I found it rather complicated to set for the first time. While there are several videos and directions available, they are not easy to follow. I ultimately took it to a jeweler to have a link removed and to get it set. It took him two hours to complete, but for $30, it was well worth the money. ... show more

  • Get it
Color: Black - SSG009
My second Seiko this one is great. Heavy. Pretty and lots of compliments. Only complaint the glow hands don’t really keep a charge so when I wake up in the middle of the night can’t see the time. Other than that. Zero regrets on this purchase. Be patient on the Radio Sync. Would not sync for days but once it did. Keeps exact time as my iPhone to the second. Buy it. ... show more

  • My new favorite watch
Color: Black - SSG010
I wanted a solar watch with a silver & gold tone bracelet and a black face so that I can wear it when that color combination seems most appropriate for the clothes I am wearing. I alternate between wearing this watch and a Seiko Excelsior solar watch with a silver & gold tone bracelet and brown face, or a Rado DiaStar automatic/self-winding watch with a silver tone bracelet and black face. This watch immediately became my new favorite, and not just because it is the newest. I leave it on the window sill when not wearing it so it gets natural light all day to stay fully charged. During the wee hours overnight, it receives the radio signal that ensures it is set to the precise time. Unlike some other reviewers, I find it extremely simple to operate: selecting the desired time zone requires only a few clicks of a button. It also looks great, even nicer in person than in the photo accompanying the product listing here on Amazon. I'm very pleased with the purchase and the watch, which arrived in excellent condition and started up very quickly after being exposed to a strong indoor light source. (I am not rating its water resistance because I tend to err on the side of caution by not wearing any of my watches while showering or swimming.) ... show more

  • Reliable and beautiful timepiece
Color: Black - SSG009
I have an automatic Seiko, which is usually running fast. I love that watch, but wanted one I can always rely on. I did not find this Coutura too difficult to set. It is now accurately set to the correct time zone, which I found was easy to do. I left it on my wrist overnight to see if it would connect to the radio signal while on my arm. It did, and I was fairly distant from windows. I have several watches, and bought this one as a daily-use, dress, and timing watch. It works well for all purposes. I am tired of GPS running watches, I want to time my runs without all the information. The Chronograph is easy to operate with one button push for both starting and stopping the time. Because I just bought it, I cannot give any rating for durability; however, I am counting on Seiko's reputation for well-made and accurate watches. I am very satisfied. ... show more
