  • Best mechanical watch for my everyday use, for the money.
Short: I did opt. for this specific watch for the simple reasons: 1) The brushed surface will make the watch look better longer, as scraches won't look as bad as on a polished watch. 2) The other SRPGs with the brushed arabics don't have enough contrast and are not functional enough in my opinion, as they are too hard to read in poor light situasions. 3) Ø 39.4 mm is very wearable on more or less any wrist. 4) The NATO strap adds safety and if one does not like it, it's very easy to change out on this watch oneself with a inexpensive tool. 5) The width of the straps for this watch is 20mm, that you find more or less any strap in, as it is a extremely commong width, making it easy to customize. 6) The "sand like" color theme of the watch is very neutral yet stylish, and does not crash with anything I have in my wardrobe from hoodies to cashmire sweaters and from leather jackets to heavy winter jackets, can easily also be "dressed up" with for example a leather strap to match fancier clothing. 7) I greatly enjoy watching the balance wheel moving through the back of the watch. 8) The movement is fairly accurate and great value for the money, and if it were to break, the entire movement is affordable and easy for watchmakers to obtain. 9) The day being showed next to the date is in for me a great and useful addition. 10) The lume is different on the arms and the dial markings, and I think they look great together, especially with the sand color of the arabics and the arms. 11) Sort of a negative, The Hardlex dome looks great, but is a step down from a safire crystal, but on the other side, it makes the watch more affordable. One can buy safire crystals for the watch (dobble domed and flat) with optional CR coating, something that is great if it gets scratched or otherwise damaged. Pure negatives: No S on the crown, only pure real negative for me, but absolutely not a deal breaker whatsoever. And for the price am I not complaining. Extra: After I researthing watches for picking a quality one as a gift for a familiy member, for a couple days, did I get pretty watch upsessed and spent my free time over the winter holiday looking around on all from dress watches to pilot and field watches. I learened a lot about the functional and historical aspects of Casio G-shock, Seiko, Tissot, Hamilton, Orient, Laco and others pretty far out of my range like Grand Seiko, Omega and Rolex. I am a student and didn't have too much to spend. What I study is heavily related to mechanics and physics and the idea of a no batteries, only physics watch got me extremely excited. After all I looked through did I end up wanting a watch that had a rich history, still were modern, were affordable, yet wanted something as inhouse (parts made by the manucafturere) as possible. In short, wanted the most bang for my buck. I ended up ordering the SNZG09J1, the Japanese and green version of one of the two predecessors of this SRPG watch I am reviewing, this predecessor did I however end up returning. It's style is similar, just a bit less "style clean" and it has a bulletproof but slightly more dated movement, as you cannot hack (stop the secound arm) nor wind "charge up" the barrle in the watch through turning the crown on the older watch. Also the finnishes were of a much lower quality as it when new, was a much cheaper watch, and it was polished between the lugs, making it look less thought through and lazy in my eyes. The not being able to set the second arm was the major deal breaker for me. The SRPG35 was for my with import (25%) and transport to Norway around 80 USD more expensive than the predecessor, but with everything mentioned did that become a pretty simple choice for me. ... show more

  • Probably best mechanical watch under $1000
The media could not be loaded. I had the old version, the SNK series two generations ago, and while I liked that watch (got it for $50, it is $100+ at time of writing), there were many things I would like to see improved upon. This watch addresses every single one of those. First, the SNK had a seemingly paper dial with printed numerals. This watch has a nicely textured dial with applied numerals and logo; I also prefer the abstract 5 over the old shield emblem. The Automatic written in script is also nice and elegant. This tan version also has great legibility over the versions with silver numerals. The hands are more modern than the lozenge ones of the SNK, and the caseback and movement are finished a lot more elegantly. On top of that, there is now hacking and hand winding (no danger of overwinding). Lume is nice, with the hour and minutes being a different color. It also has 10 bar water resistance, which beats many more expensive watches that have 5 at most. Accuracy is on paper around +-30 seconds a day, though currently I am getting around +-5. Power reserve is 41 hours. The only thing I liked better with the SNK was the recessed 4 o'clock crown, but considering that this one has hand winding, and the crown is low profile anyway, it is not a problem at all. Compared to other sub $1000 field watches, like from Hamilton, Bulova, Marathon, etc., this watch has day date, and more water resistance, while being a fraction of the price. With those watches maybe you get sapphire crystal (which you can get replaced on this watch if you want), more power reserve (which doesn't matter if you wear or wind it at least every other day anyway), better quality (indiscernible unless under a microscope), or better accuracy (I don't wear mechanical watches for accuracy, and this is definitely good enough for everyday use). I don't think I've ever felt so satisfied spending $200. ... show more

  • Handsome, well made, works perfectly
This is really a nice, well made watch. Wanted a good looking, basic watch with luminous hands which actually work in the dark. This Seiko meets those requirements and then some. Would have given five stars but cloth band fit my thin wrist badly and required replacement. Very happy with leather replacement. Won’t provide the bells and whistles you get with an Apple Watch for around the same price, but if you have old school tastes, this does nicely. ... show more

  • The product is great, the seller is not an authorized Seller - there is no warranty
After a couple of months of use the watch I bought collected a bit of water - which clouded the display. Not a big deal, things happen. I reached out to Amazon who passed the contact to Seiko support. I mailed the watch for repair but their repair invoice came back with $182.50 to fix the watch. The reason it is not free is because this particular seller is not an authorized reseller. ... show more

  • Good quality, great beater watch.
Hated this watch when I bought it. Thought it was the ugliest watch ever made! Did not care for the sandblasted look of the case. Didn't care for the Nato watch band. Purchased a brownish red leather strap from a local jewelry store and liked it way better than the one that came with it. This watch had to grow on me and I now love it. One glance it is easy to see the time night or day. The lume is good and lasts all night with 30 seconds of good light before bedtime. I wear it 6 days a week and ride and feed horses 4 of those days a week. I do mechanic work with it and am very rough on it and after several months now it doesn't have a scratch on the hardlex crystal or case. The sandblasted case was made to hide the scratches. Keeps accurate time for a automatic watch, loses under a minute per month. ... show more
