Description

The Seiko Presage SSK009 automatic wristwatch is part of the "Style 60's" Collection inspired by the classic 1964 Crown Chronograph. The new edition has a GMT function with a 40.8mm polished stainless steel case and a box-shaped glare-resistant hardlex crystal. A brushed satin grey-blue dial is surrounded by a 24-hour fixed aluminum bi-colored bezel. Silver-applied baton markers and patina LumiBright diamond-shaped hands are easily legible along the contoured chapter ring. The GMT hand and date window 3 is adjustable by the stainless steel easy-grip oversize crown with a 50-meter water resistance capacity. Powered by Seiko's in-house movement caliber 4R34 with a see-through exhibition case-back that displays movement. Fitted with a brushed and polished stainless steel bracelet with angled lugs for comfort with a twin push button tri-fold safety clasp closure to stay secure and in place on the wrist. Beautiful watch, looks more expensive than it is. The dial color is blue-grey; the color changes in different lighting. Only thing to note is that the clasp only has 2 micro adjustments and the bracelet doesn’t come with any half links, so perfect fitting might be difficult.

    • The time piece is fantastic. Vendor's delivery policy is lacking.
I'm giving four stars because of the way the vendor chooses to ship the merchandise and not communicate to customers. The watch itself receives five stars and is absolutely gorgeous. The 60's style face and dial are good size on the wrist, classic and sophisticated at the same time. The 4R34 movement is fantastic and smooth for 21600 vpm (4Hz/28800 vpm would be even more fantastic, but this isn't a Grand Seiko). The band is solid, and I was surprised at how easily the cotter pins were to remove. The pin holes are a little larger than most other steel band watches, which does give some concern, but the pins are staying in place, a testament to the quality of Japanese engineering. This watch normally retails at $650, so $500 is a good deal, and as a Presage it is well worth the investment. Once I synced the time and seconds hand to my digital atomic clock, it is keeping pace just fine. I do expect to be off by 30 seconds a day, but I don't invest in automatic/mechanical watches solely for accuracy (that's what quartz is for). I enjoy the aesthetics, the art, the engineering, and creativity of horology. This watch will be an heirloom to my grandchildren someday. Now, on to the issues I had with getting this thing. The watch is superb. The way it got to me left a bad taste in my mouth. As I have come to find out, it is typical business practices for many vendors to require signatures on FedEx deliveries if merchandise is valued at $500 and more. Makes sense for insurance purposes. HOWEVER, the vendor DID NOT include that information anywhere in the Amazon page listing, nor does Amazon provide that info, either. FedEx has a bad track record of not working with customers, promising/guaranteeing delivery windows only to have someone contact you to say they can't or won't honor their own gaurantee. These are issues I experienced: 1) no communication from vendor or Amazon that a signature is required at time of delivery or that someone has to be present to sign, 2) instructions given to FedEx by the vendor DO NOT include the option to collect the package from a FedEx facility - it must be attempted to be delivered up to 3 times, and then FedEx will return to the sender as undeliverable. FedEx deliveries come midday while you are at work and no one is home, and 3) and this is on FedEx and the worst part, driver doesn't leave you a tag on the door (like UPS does) that they tried to deliver, or give further instructions or information on what to do next. I only found out that FedEx couldn't make a delivery because it updated on the Amazon app. While not on Amazon, it is on this vendor that they didn't relay critical delivery information that could have avoided days of frustration and last minute arrangements to be home to ensure delivery reception, so be ware. After a year, I like: 1) The bezel and the case design and polishing. 2) The dial design. 3) The dial color. 4) The size, suitable for my wrist. 5) Good and Robust movement. I don't like (see photos): 1) Misaligned bezel. 2) Crystal, the Hadlex doesn't bother me, but it has a lot of reflections, specially at night 4) The shape of the crystal, it causes deformations from various angles, although it is typical of box-shaped glass 4) The end links don't fit properly into the watch case. Conclusion: good concept, needs better execution, not worth the oficial price. ... show more
