The decaf that I usually buy was not available so I very reluctantly took a chance on this brand and I’m glad I did. First time I had an opportunity to sample one of the Seattle's Brand coffee selection. I am strictly a decaf drinker so my selection is limited. I found this coffee to be good but perhaps a little over roasted. A longer period of roasting does deliver a stronger flavor but can also be somewhat bitter. Personally I find this coffee falls into that category.

We LOVE this coffee!!! My husband only drinks decaf. We live in Costa Rica, the coffee capital of the world, with about a dozen excellent inexpensive local coffee brands, but there is only ONE brand of decaf and it’s twice the price! This coffee is very flavorful and rich, without being bitter. It’s always fresh. It smells amazing while brewing and won’t let you down. The price is incredible!!! So we are the ONLY people in the world bringing coffee INTO Costa Rica! It’s that good!

I blend my own coffees to achieve a 50-50 caffeine level based on Drs orders, (He would rather I give up coffee but this try failed), so I am focused on good decaf coffee roasted to a medium City Roast or darker. Costco used to roast their own Columbia Supremo locally which was excellent but stopped this program. SO, I am on a constant search for good tasting decaf preferably Swiss style processed. This product was only average. It was roasted appropriately but the blend was fairly weak and did not deliver enough aroma, taste, or mouthfeel drunk at 100%. I think part of it was the beans used...but it was generally not robust enough for me and did not have much real coffee flavor. I blended it with 25% Sumatra and 25% Cuban which helped but it was not a great choice as a decaf coffee. I wont buy it again.

We don’t mean to be “snobs.” It’s just that we grind our own beans every morning. “Connoisseurs” is perhaps a more apt word. We believe the best beans should be freshly roasted. We get phenomenal local coffees from a skilled roaster trained by the legendary George Howell. A long lost friend of mine across the country used to send us great beans she regularly sampled, and we send our own suggested coffees back. In one package including some Howell coffees from Central America, was a small bag of this pre-ground coffee. It, too, was phenomenal. Dark yet not burnt, with plenty of smooth and rich character. I asked which coffee this was, expecting a description of an expensive varietal she ground herself before sending. In fact, it was this bargain Seattle’s Best Coffee 6th Avenue blend. We became fans, too, and keep a bag around when we don’t have time to grind. Enter Seattle’s Best Portside Blend Decaf which used to be called Signature Blend #3. It’s a lighter roast than 6th Avenue, of course, yet impressively well rounded with no discernable off notes. Since our everyday world is pretty buzzed up naturally, we’ve been going half-caff recently. This two coffees together make for a great 50/50 combo during the growing number of mornings when we don’t quite have time to grind.

We first bought this coffee (different item number, but the same coffee) in 2020 and continue to love it! Consistent in quality and taste, and although the price has gone up a lot for a single package, the unit price of each package in this order is still very reasonable.
