  • Great drive for my Synology NAS, working well.
Installed in a Synology DS-817+ and it's humming right along. FIts well in the chasis and immediately recognized by the NAS.

  • Great value
This review is for the 10TB Ironwolf (amazon lumps all sizes together in reviews). I really don't know what some are talking about in their reviews as far as noise, vibration and compatibility. YES, you may use NAS drives as normal desktop drives. NOWHERE on Seagate's site do they say error correcting is absent or limited. I have used NAS drives as normal desktop drives for years with NO noticeable difference on how they act/perform vs a "desktop" drive. In fact I prefer them for normal storage as they are built to last longer, and be used non-stop. For all mechanical drives I've purchased in the past, you could tell the drive was powered on simply by touching the drives case...you can feel the slight vibration of the disks spinning. Not this drive. This drive makes absolutely NO vibration even when read/writing. Cloning this drive, I hear little if anything noise wise. It is as quiet, if not QUIETER than all my other mechanical drives. As far as mechanical drives go (I use SSD's in RAID 0 for OS and programs), I switched from strictly WD drives to Seagate drives about 10 yrs ago. WD had excellent warranties and performance, but I was using the warranty far too often. Knock on wood, I personally have yet to have a single Seagate drive fail. I've just had better luck with Seagate drives....I know all will fail eventually, but I'm always looking to postpone that inevitability as long as possible. ... show more

  • So good, I bought 2
These drives are awesome. I bought 2 for my NAS setup and they've been working perfectly in a raid config for backing up all of my photo/video files. I just wish they weren't so damn expensive!!! But as far as i'm concerned, at this capacity and for a NAS, these or the ironwolf Pro's are the ones to go with. ... show more

  • Workhorse
I have four of these babies in my NAS which gives me 20 terabytes of mirrored storage for my voiceover business... now virtually every clients project is available at my fingertips if they come back a year or more later to make changes/updates to an old project (which they do quite often). They are fairly noisy though making noises I haven’t heard from other drives, So locate somewhere their noise won’t be a problem, but with four of these in my Synology NAS I wouldn’t expect it to be quiet as a church mouse ! ... show more

  • RMA 1 of 6
I purchased 6 of these drives to update a QNAP 6 bay NAS. I had previously had 6 6TB WD reds, and had heard good things about Seagate. Mostly, folks seem to suggest these are faster drives for NAS with better caching abilities. But, I was aware that the larger the drive the more chance you will run into an issue. I was able to get every drive replaced, and indeed the drives are quite, run well, and seem to have no heat issues. I run in a RAID 6 configuration. However, 1 of the drives went bad about 1 year after purchase. My QNAP was warning me. You are always nervous to see a drive die, but at least the RAID 6 this should be ok (in theory). I went on the website, and it easily found my drive by serial number. So I could RMA under warranty. You can send the drive and they will send you a new one for free. Or pay $20 to have them ship to you and then you return the broken drive. More expensive options for faster shipping. I did chose the $20 option. But the new drive came in 5 days, with a label/box to return the bad drive. So overall I am pretty happy with the exchange and ease of the RMA process. I have been happy with the product and company. Of course, hard for me as my WDs never had an issue. Still, good company and easy RMA process is probably all you can ask. And these tend to be cheaper than WD drives at least when I bought mine. It is just a reminder to always back up and use good RAID for your data. Big drives do fail, and when they crash that is it. So be careful. Buy more storage than you need and use RAID 6 or better. ... show more

  • Best Hard Drives I have ever owned (and I bought my first one in 1986!)
The Iron Wolf is easily the best data storage drive I have ever had the pleasure to own! It's fast, reliable and in the 3 years since I bought my first one, I have never had a single issue with them. I copy and store a metric $%@# ton of data, these drives haven't disappointed me in any way. Use a fast SSD or Firecuda hybrid drive for the main OS and programs/games, and these fantastic monsters for bulk storage, and you will be a very happy PC owner for many years. I sure am! ... show more

Great little workhorse with tons of storage. Convinced me to get a 16TB Ironwolf Pro Dec 2022 For extra data eliminated Segate external USB 3.0 drives!

  • This drive is Fast and Quiet!
Wow! This drive is fast. I placed it in a USB 3.0 external enclosure with a 6' cable, and still achieved 10GB/minute speed. Very impressive. Copied over 5TB in ~9 hours. Can barely hear it and the enclosure is two feet away. I'll edit this if anything changes in the future, but if it stays alive I'm extremely satisfied. ... show more
