I purchased two of these last year (I know before prices spiked) and they worked right out of the box no problems. the second one I did not use much until recently and Crystal disk info was giving me some bad sectors errors.     • Great as Backup Drives!
I purchased 2x of these drives. They were well packaged and protected. I have already done an extensive test on one of the drives which already had power on time of more than 1350 days when connected it first. The SMART showed no errors and my Hard Disk Sentinel Surface Test to Reinitialize Disk Surface showed no errors after the scan. So everything is working great on the first disk. The second disk already had power on time of more than 800 days when connected it first. The SMART showed no errors and I will give update once Hard Disk Sentinel Surface Test to Reinitialize Disk Surface has finished. UPDATE: The disk is working perfectly and passed all tests. Overall I am happy with the purchase as both work and will form part of my backup pool. I feel confident and should one fail the pool will recover lost files. Purchasing a new or refurbished drive, any drive can fail at anytime. Saving money on a drive that might last me another 5 years or more is great. Lets see how it goes! ... show more

I bought two of these drives back in October. after about 6 months they started to show alerts and eventually errors under SeaGate Tools. I was fortunate to get my data out before both of them completely died. I know these drives have been heavily used and are advertised as 'Renewed' so you never know what you are going to get. After this experience I would say save your money and buy new. Never buying Renewed drives ever again. ... show more

The capacity is great and it’s been reliable for several months. It runs an average of about 3 hours a day in my setup. It is audible so if you need a silent drive, keep looking. Mine runs cool but I have adequate airflow. I tried running it with a usb adapter and no airflow just to see how warm it gets and I wouldn’t recommend that because it gets quite warm. ... show more

Bought two of these. Both mine had 30k hours (!) on them. They work fine, but I can't deny I'm worried. As a mainly SSD person, I'm not sure how many clicks and noises HDDs are supposed to make before you get concerned... Price is insane though. On diskprices.com, these are the best price per tb drives to come from a big name brand. 24TB for 160$ is an absolute steal. Agh. Get these with backblaze, or a raid 5 setup or something. I bought 2 of these Seagate Exos x12 12TB SATA 6Gb/s 256MB Cache Enterprise Hard Drives because of the price and guarantee. I had a drive go bad in my main NAS, that has been running for over 5 years with renewed drives in it. I've always bought renewed drives for storage. I used these to transfer data from a NAS with the bad drive so I could replace it. They work great, very fast. Recommend for anyone. ... show more

I purchased 4 of these drives in October of 2024. As I write this in August of 2026, 3 of them have died. Used drives are a gamble, and it did not pay off for me. Shop carefully, and use redundancy. I recommend a RAID 6.

    • Good but….
Seems to be ok now I think. When I first got it I had issues initializing it and when writing to it for a period of time, the drive crashes and disconnects. I have to restart to bring it back online. Once I get data on it, it reads just fine and I can transfer data in bulk from just not to. Have to transfer data to this drive in small amounts. Hopefully I’ve got it running more stable. If not I’ll contact the seller as it is supposed to be certified renewed with warranty. Don’t be discouraged though. Even with brand new drives, there are bad units bits a hit or miss when buying an hhd ... show more
