  • Recertified 12TB Hard Drive in NAS RAID10 Setup Recertified 12TB Hard Drive in NAS RAID10 Setup
I was initially skeptical about using a recertified 12TB hard drive in my NAS, but after testing in a RAID10 configuration, I’m pleasantly surprised by its performance. Cost Savings: Compared to new drives, the price was significantly lower, making it a budget-friendly option for high-capacity storage. Performance: Speeds are on par with new drives—no noticeable bottlenecks in read/write operations. Running in RAID10, I’m getting a good balance of speed and redundancy. Low Power Consumption & Noise: The drive runs quietly and doesn’t generate excessive heat, which is essential for 24/7 NAS operation. For NAS users looking for an affordable way to expand storage, a recertified 12TB drive is a solid option—So far, it’s performing well in my RAID10 setup, but I’d still recommend having a backup strategy in place just in case. Would I buy another? Yes, but only for non-critical data or in a redundant RAID array. ... show more

  • 10/10 will buy again!
Best of the best! Speeds are as advertised, much quieter than other drivers, size is as advertised, works great and the quality is amazing for recertified! Edit: I'm coming back to say that the drives that I received must be brand new, because they are running flawlessly. I wanted to add that I purchased my drives from ServerPartDeals (Formerly Tech on Tech) and I trust them with my life! Also, come to find out, Linus from LinusTechTips uses ServerPartDeals for their refurbished and recertified drives! They made a video about them as well. They're an amazing company and very trustworthy! Thanks for the perfect drives! ... show more

  • Very disappointed. A drive that fails in <1440 hours indicates 1 million hours MTBF is a lie.
I bought one of these for Time Machine backups. Initially, all seemed well. The drive formatted properly and I did a 1TB Time Machine backup. On attempting to back up a second computer (also 1TB), I encountered an endless cycle of the drive randomly unmounting and backups failing. I ran Disk Utility and got a report that the disk had FAILED Disk First Aid. I finally decided to completely reformat the drive. It would not reformat. I repeated several cycles of trying to reformat and running Disk First Aid. All ended in failure. On trying to order a replacement drive, I encountered one of the least helpful Customer Service representatives ever! Every time I asked a question, I got a long period of silence. On asking the question again, I'd get silence - sometimes followed by an answer. The representative's speech was at times difficult to understand. The return process was byzantine. All of the information I initially entered the first time (when initiating the process) had to be entered again. Then I was given a URL and told to check back in 48 hours. I don't know whether this mess was because I was dealing with Seagate Customer Service or a much-degraded Amazon customer service, but the process itself seemed broken. This drive was supposed to be a Data Center quality NAS drive with 1 MILLION HOURS mean time before failure. I had the drive exactly 2 months (~1440 hours) before it irretrievably failed (and actually was having problems with it for the past month ~720hours). So did I get a lemon? Or is the 1,000,000H MTBF figure a lie? ... show more

  • Worked for me
These drives came well packaged and checked out as certified Seagate drives. The storage capacity is perfect for my NAS needs as the raid 1 configuration leaves me with 10.8Tb usable storage. The only problem that I ran into was that they are not on Synologys compatibility list. The 12TB seagate ironwolf drive on their has a model number ending in 008 while these end in 007. The only problem this causes, other than an install error message, is that the full feature set of my NAS isn't avaliable. It's not a deal breaker though. They still set up and work well. ... show more

  • High quality at a great price
The size and quality of this drive is great, and an incredible value for the price. S.M.A.R.T. showed that it'd hardly been used before I bought it. I've had it in a ZFS raid for a lot time now and it hasn't had a single error show up in SMART and hasn't had any file corruption show up in ZFS scrub. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a RAID drive ... show more

  • It's good, but there's something to be aware of... It's good, but there's something to be aware of...
I got two of these to replace a pair of Western Digital RED 4 TB drives in my Synology DS214 NAS. They've been working great for the last two days and I haven't had any problems. However, physically installing the drives wasn't smooth. Look at the first photo where the IronWolf drive is on top of the RED drive; I put a red rectangle to show how the IronWolf doesn't have a middle mounting hole on the side(s) compared to the RED. Now look at the second photo where you can see the IronWolf doesn't have middle mounting holes on the bottom compared to the RED; note that I only put one red square on each drive to emphasize which ones are relevant concerning installation... which leads to the third photo showing the side mounting brackets and the drive tray. Once again, I put red squares showing "pegs" that simply DON'T work with IronWolf. I easily resolved this by cutting off the "pegs" with a wire cutter. I can't say for sure how many other NASs, Synology or otherwise, are affected by this, but it IS something to be aware of. I can only imagine why Seagate didn't put these particular mounting holes that I had always believed to be a standard feature on 3.5" form factor hard drives. ... show more

  • Silent!! so that means that is good for an HTPC.
This review is for the "Seagate 12TB IronWolf NAS SATA 6Gb/s NCQ 256MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive", I ordered on prime day and received it 2 days later, I have made copies of data from one HDD to another so after a format I tried to copy the data of my old (but reliable 8TB HDD) to this one. Almost immediately I notice a clicking noise in an otherwise silent (in between clicks) of the new HDD, I re-check everything, check connections, tightened everything and the clicking stop and proceeded to copy and that is when the fun started, the copy of the files went a healthy amount of mbps to zero every so often, I did not remember having an issue like that ever before but I google possible reasons and I found a few here and there saying that I partition the drive wrong, to change the size of the sectors, that I purchased the wrong drive for my kind of use etc, so I started again, partitioned and format it and went again to copy but same thing happened so I returned and 5 days later I got a replacement which is working now with flying colors and no funky behavior. So to anybody that is having a similar issue I say.. Just return it, you have a bad drive. After the initial experience I may say that I like this drive, it is SILENT which bring assurance of no issues. I recommend it if you are in the market for one. ... show more

  • great storage for the price
When dealing with large amounts of media, backing up can be insane. I deal with about 60TB of media a year and there is no raid solution that costs less than my car to do the job. I have a docking station, and buy two of these at a clip. I use Hedge to make a redundant backup of my projects and move on knowing I'm protected. I have 40 of these drives now. That's 20 redundant backups of 12TB each. That would require a 250TB raid... price compare that. These are great and keep me protected. ... show more
