It shades the camera from direct sunlight, provides protection from rain/snow and most importantly, it’s matte black on the interior so that it doesn’t create light reflection from the camera’s lights/night vision. I had to cover an outdoor Dahua dome to keep rain off, so I picked this unit up. It's done pretty well. My only gripe is that it's bigger than I need it to be. I'm pretty sure Hikvision and Dahua domes are the same size so it's not that, it's just large. If I run across a smaller one I'll probably swap it out and use this one on a less conspicuous outdoor camera where having a huge cover won't look as out of place. But for now, it keeps the drops off the dome so I'm good. ... show more

I bought this to cover my doorbell camera on the side of the house where the sun sets. Don't want the plastics of my camera to turn yellow prematurely. It covers it well and creates a little shade. Way bigger than my wife likes -but getting the job done.

I bought this to protect my Ring spotlight cam from the elements and has proven effective. So far, it has protected against both snow and rain and has kept the lens from collecting water droplets and from fogging up. Install was quite easy as they provided a template to mark your drill lines. Time from unpacking to installed was less than 10 minutes. Hard plastic.. Cost to make in china is probably like 5 bucks, but they sell for $30. Pretty sure someone can use a 3d printer to make something similar. Quality is good though.. One thing to note is that the underside is pretty reflective. If you have a camera with IR for nightvision, you might want to take this into consideration. It might reflect unwanted light into the underside and cause issues with your image. ... show more

The instructions accompanying the Nest Camera warn not to use the unit in direct sun. The mounting location for the camera is in direct sunlight most of the day. Thus I purchased this product to shield the camera from the Sun. Installed cleanly and looks professional. Nice cover. Does not restrict the view. Easy to install and well made. Comes with a template to drill the holes in the wall. I have not had any issues with IR reflection at night but that probably depends on the type of security camera you have. I would recommend.
