  • Quality Release at a Good Price Point
After spending a couple of weeks with this release, I've come to love it! I was looking for a simple thumb release to replace my over 30 year old, recently failed Hot Shot release, (Got my money's worth from that one!), but didn't want to pay $200+ for a release that I would only use occasionally. I normally shoot a Scott caliper style release but suffer from bouts of target panic every so often. When this happens, I switch to the thumb release for a week or so to rid myself of the shot anticipation that causes my target panic, and then I am fine to back to the caliper release. However, I may not go back this time! I am finding that I shoot every bit as well with this release as I ever did with the caliper on my best days and am overall more consistent. It is not yet as comfortable to me as the caliper, but I think that will come with time and familiarity. I initially used the 3 finger extension, removed the wrist strap, and used the lanyard to loop over my hand similar to how the old Hot Shot was set up. This gave me a familiar feel and shot process that I was happy with. However I continued to experiment (this is a very versatile release) and the configuration that I settled on for hunting is *with* the wrist strap and the four finger extension. With the strap I found that I can tuck the release between the strap and my palm and wrist, leaving my hands completely free and the release secure. Using the four finger extension, I use mainly my first and third fingers to draw, lock my thumb around the button while settling into my anchor, then slowly relax my hand and slightly squeeze with my ring and pinky fingers while applying back tension to release the shot similar to the way you would shoot a hinge. The shot always breaks crisply and surprises me each time. For me this works absolutely brilliant! The Positive: Well thought out design and obvious quality. Crisp sear. Lots of adjustability. Reasonable price. The Negative: As others have mentioned, the release is noisy at the shot due to metal on metal contact of the jaw. I don't think this should be a deal breaker though as it is not nearly as loud as the bow. (And my bow is relatively quiet.) You notice it however since it is right next to your ear. It would also be nice if the sear tension was adjustable as well as the travel. Also, the Hot Shot has a spring on the jaw that keeps it open after the shot so you can quickly hook it on and close it for the next shot. This would be a nice feature to have. None of these issues are deal breakers for me however, and if they were addressed I'm sure it would be at a higher price point. Overall I think Scott did a good job on this one. Would definitely buy again! ... show more

  • Crisp release
Have not used this in the field yet, but I can say this has a very crisp release, which I am a fan of. One of the things I noticed on some reviews between Amazon and other websites was that this was loud. While it may be loud next to you, it may or may not be loud 20-30 yards away, more than likely the distance of your target, or louder. Nevertheless, I decided to do what I could in regards to lessening the noise produced by the release. I have attached photos to show. I cut a piece of a rubber band in to three small, roughly 1/4” length strips and placed them between the first sear and the body of the release. This has helped muffle quite a bit of noise. At this point I’m not worried about a target down range and spooking. ... show more

  • Good release
Originally I loved the fact this came with a wrist strap. I am new to shooting a thumb button and have a bow thats 82 lbs...I've seen what happens when rhe release slips from your hand and hits the riser...its a new bow. Having the wrist strap ensured this wouldn't happen. Trigger mechanism is very adjustable...almost too much so...you can easily adjust too light. It's got a crisp clean break with minimal back tension and the barrel is adjustable forward back and up and down. The original reason I got this release was for for wrist strap....after shooting more and getting more comfortable with it I've taken rhe strap off and leave it clipped to my d-loop while stalking antelope and deer etc. Having your release already hooked to your d loop is a huge advantage while spot ans stalk hunting and allows you yo keep your dominant hand free to use range finder etc...shooting with the strap on can be cumbersome and makes setting the release difficult but with a little practice it's pretty doable. Over all you get way more for your money than most releases and competitors ... show more

  • Great and affordable
Materials are great, and after adapting to the fact that you have to manually close it to attach it to the loop it does the job and it does it very well. Only reason I didn’t like it is that the head doesn’t rotate which twists your loop if you try to adjust it to your support point which in my case my hand is parallel to my face. Otherwise I would recommend it ***UPDATE**** Well, call it inexperience, but after returning this release and trying a couple of other ones I realized how good the Scott Archery Pursuit is. Starting with materials and build, the SA Pursuit looks and feels high end. I’m waiting to try the trufire bulldog , but will probably buy the pursuit again in a couple of months (or sooner if price goes down) ****UPDATE SEP-21**** I found a great offer for the Pursuit release on another site and decided to buy it again. After trying a couple of other releases I realized that this is the one that feels more comfortable, accurate and works best for me. One plus that is not mentioned a lot is the fact that it doesn't damage the D-loop as fast as other releases. Very reliable, I would definitely recommended to anybody looking for a great mid-tier release ... show more

  • Great Release As One Would Expect from Scott
I love the release. It’s very comfortable and accurate. I would recommend to any archer looking for a thumb release. The quality is what one would expect from Scott Archery.

  • Crisp!
Takes a few arrows to get used to the action, but well worth it. Had wrist surgery a few years ago so conventional releases was not comfortable. Not only am I more accurate now. I am also in no pain after a few dozen arrows in one day. Well worth the switch.
