Teach your child to ride on the perfect blend kid-centric engineering and BMX style. The Koen features a SmartStart design, which has been carefully calibrated to a child’s proportions for a comfortable ride and ideal riding position. This includes a lighter bike frame for added control, smaller grip handles to match smaller hands, a narrower pedal position to match narrow kid hips, and much more. Best of all, the Koen grows with your child. Training wheels are included to help get them started. From there, the tool-free adjustable seat post easily accommodates your child as they grow. Rear coaster and front hand brakes ease the transition to a bigger, hand-break-only bike when they’re ready. • Perfect Proportions
I bought the red version from Amazon Warehouse (Like New). The box had been opened before but the bike was not put together before. The number plate was missing a screw and the sticker on the front was scratched and ripped. Not a huge deal. The bike went together easily however some things needed adjusted. The steering tube had a notchy feeling so I backed off the top nut a half turn and that fixed the issue. The chain and rear wheel (pre-assembled) were also very tight but I was able to loosen that up a bit. The rest of the assembly was simple and I didn't need the manual (it's a bicycle, not a rocket engine). As for the ergonomics and the SmartStart system, I think it's fantastic. This bicycle looks like it was made for a child's body. It's not all scrunched up like most children's bikes and the proportions are perfect for my son. Really impressed. My son is 42" tall and has an inseam of ~17 inches. The 14" bike is perfect for him AND he has room to grow. He's able to put his tippy toes down which gives him confidence and he still has enough room to comfortable pedal. VERY happy with the purchase. This is the perfect child's pedal bike and the price is likely the best on the market. HIGHLY recommended. ... show more

  • Instructions issues. Cheap training. Wheels.
I was super excited to give it to my son, first bike and all, but I’m kinda disappointed in this bike for a few reasons. Manual: It’s a pretty bike, the paint is high quality. It was pretty well packaged. I’ll give them that. initially, I thought that the instructions were missing and I was annoyed for the first 20 min then realized it was hidden in the seat package. The instructions were way too generic, though. I shouldn’t have to read through three different bike assembly instructions for three different bike styles and watch three videos (also of different bike styles) to figure out what I need to do to assemble. This made what would have been a 30 Min assembly (outside of brake) into two hours. Schwinn should also have a video on proper assembly of the brakes since it’s say all over the booklet that ”improper assembly can result in injury or death.” like jeez just give me the proper instructions then. The front brake was garbage and frankly with foot breaks an unnecessary thing to add on a kids bike. Sizing: I’ll attach an image soon but the size chart should have been on this listing or on the Schwinn website. My son is 3 and 40“ (3T/4T clothing size for reference) and I bought the 14” bike....I think I bought the correct size, but according to the chart in the instruction manual he’s at the max height for the bike. I think he can get one season out of it but that’s disappointing. Now I understand why the most popular sized bikes are 12” and 16”. Function: On the first short ride out, the training wheels are falling off (I thought the issue was me not tightening properly but read that others have had this issue, and it keeps happening no matter how tight we make them too so maybe it wasn’t me.) the seat doesn’t seem super comfortable...its cheap hard plastic and I feel like it will break. the Pedals are stiff and hard to use for a child learning how to pedal. The front brake is completely useless. For as hard as it was to assemble (I’ve had to take the break apart many times to get it to fit the wheel right, it is a front brake which I’m sure my son will never use as there is a backpedal.. ... show more

  • Poorly made, not good for beginners, don’t waste your money
It was a little difficult to put together. My husband ended up taking off the handle bar brake because we couldn’t get it to work. We also messed with tightening and loosening the back tire but it continues to not spin freely(aka constant resistance) which is not good for a little one trying to pedal easily. The chain also constantly clicks against the guard every pedal rotation which is really annoying and also adds to the friction/resistance. My 4 year old us rode it(with help) for a total of maybe 10 minutes when the chain literally came apart. We’ve spent more time working on it adapting this bike than we have actually getting to use it! This was a disappointment to say the least. Save yourself the hassle and just go to Target or Walmart and buy a cheaper one that will probably be a better quality. ... show more

  • Poor Manufactoring and Design
The assembly was not easy as the woom bikes I've done for my kids. We wanted a bike with training wheels and got this one. The pedals have tremendous resistance to spinning and have no ability to adjust them. I reported this to Schwinn and they sent me replacement pedals. One replacement pedal was ok, the other one was also super stiff. This is a kids bike and it's impossible for my 3.5 year-old to comfortably ride it with such stiff pedals. They have horrible quality control on their bikes. Multiple reviewers have complained about this. How long have you been building bikes? ... show more

  • It was assembled in china
All the ball bearings on the bike were adjusted too tight with no lube on them. I know how fix bikes and I did the repairs. There are many bad reviews on Amazon about this same issue on this same bike and you have done nothing about it. You should me ashamed yourself. You make more money than anyone else in the world. ... show more

  • Great first peddle bike
Read a lot of reviews and decided on the 14” bike for my (one month away from) 4 year old. It’s a very heavy bike but so far he seems to be fine with it. FYI for other parents, he has a 15” inseam and is 39 1/2” tall. He’s already begging for me to take off the training wheels.

  • Decent for the price, but has some flaws.
The bike is decent for the money. However, I had to bend the front fork for fit the wheel on, and the brake cable snapped during assembly. Luckily for me I’ve been building bikes for myself for a while and had a spare brake cable in a tool box. As for the front fork, it’s about 3/4” too narrow to slot the wheel in. With a clamp on one side and channel locks on the other I was able to pry it open just enough. Not ideal for anyone without tools. Also, I had to bend the front brake arms slightly for good braking contact with the wheel. Now that it’s all adjusted and assembled, my 3yo loves it. ... show more

  • Great starter bike
It’s red. It has training wheels. It’s exactly what it looks like. The frame is sturdy, assembly is pretty straight forward (we put it together for Christmas the night before), and our 3 year old loves it. It is exactly what I expected.
