  • Classic “karate”
Size: 13 inch frame Color: Coal
Excellent bike to putt putt the neighborhood. I’m 5’11”, 180 and still fit on the bike. I always wanted one as a kid so here we are. It has a front hand brake, and shock absorbing seat. There’s also a front spring shock absorber. All in all it’s a fun bike for big kids and excellent for smaller kids. ... show more

This bike is totally rad. Some things are just artistically perfect.

  • Kool ride!
Size: 13 inch frame Color: Coal
I opted for the coal krate. I am 5’ 10” and 210 pounds. The bike rides well and there are no signs of stress on it. I bought the upgraded springs to replace the ones in the sissy bar, but have been unable to replace them as the cotter pins are in there tighter than Dick’s hatband. As is , i feel the suspension seat sink a bit but nothing to worry about. I didn’t expect construction to equal the originals; but am pleasantly surprised by just how high the quality is. No complaints! I replaced the seat with a black glitter seat by Alta. It could use a little more padding. The schwinn seat has more padding and the edges of the seat pan seem to be a little more rounded. Definitely a more comfortable ride. There is a book on amazon about working on original krates. ( “Make your schwinn krate ride great” by Geoff Greene). I found it to be very useful as the included assembly instructions are close to useless. Also, be sure to check out the youtube video on assembly. The book will be useful for repair and maintanance as well because so many of the parts are the same or very close. Adjusted for inflation, the price is about the same as it was back in the day so don’t let that stop you. Just get some cool valve stem caps and you are in business. Btw, if you haven’t ridden an old school bike in decades- it’s just as much fun as you remember!! Enjoy!! ... show more

  • Wanted one as a kid? Get this bike. Wanted one as a kid? Get this bike.
Size: 13 inch frame Color: Orange
Very happy with my orange krate purchase. Assembly was fairly easy, front drum brake cable setup gave me the most grief, but not horrible. Very helpful videos showing assembly on youtube. Don't be afraid to assemble it yourself. Nice paint, correct style tires, well built & nice quality. For those saying "fake krate", that's not correct. Schwinn offered coaster brake krates for 3 years, '70, '71, and '72. The chainguards were specific to coaster brake models, and this one is correct. The front drum brake was not offered on coaster brake krates, but it's a cool touch. I added lights, speedo, mirror, orange lock, restored a '72/'73 Milwaukee (my hometown) bike license plate and a schwinn bell, just as I would have done over 50 years ago. I wanted one in 1970 (actually a 5 speed orange) when I was 8, but settled for a Ross. Yes, it's pricy, but the new krate I wanted 53 years ago is mine now, at age 61. Once the weather here in Wisconsin is warmer, you bet I'll ride this bike a bit! If you're around my age and wanted one new, don't hesitate to buy. Way cheaper than buying a nice original one, and it'll make you smile! ... show more

  • Terrific product, fairly easy assembly, nice quality
Size: 13 inch frame Color: Orange
MY grandson, who is 8, loved receiving this bike for his birthday. The product came in a box via FEDEX and was packed well. No damage to bike. Unpackaging the bike and all of the parts takes about 30 minutes for 1 person. Assembly realistically takes 2 people about 30 minutes. Everything went together as expected with no modifications required. The box said that the age range was for 6+ - - but my 8 year old grandson is a big guy and I would not recommend this bike for kids younger than 8. But the product is good, quality is good, etc. ... show more

  • The look is worth it
Size: 13 inch frame Color: Orange
About as close to "authentic" as you can get without spending thousands. I'm sure it's not really made for someone of my age and height, but that will not stop me from riding it. I'm 6' 3'' and it's comfortable enough. I took it to a bike shop for assembly and a guy there tried to buy it before I got it back to the car. Lots of thumbs up from onlookers while tooling through the neighborhood. A few rattles and squeaks, but for what it is, the bike rides well. I would not take it on a multi-hour trip over hilly terrain, but for a short cruise over level ground or a half-hour workout before dinner, the look and the sheer joy of riding it are hard to beat. ... show more

  • It's a Stingray Krate! 'Nuff said... It's a Stingray Krate! 'Nuff said...
Size: 13 inch frame Color: Coal
What can I say? It's a Schwinn Stingray Coal Krate! Sure it's a little pricey, but being a limited production model, I think it's worth the money, especially after seeing how much a '72 Krate sells for on Ebay. There are a few scuffs on the fenders that I'll buff out with 3M polishing compound. Assembly was fairly straight forward. As for ride, I'm a little taller and heavier than I was in '72, so I expected it to ride differently. My old bike did not have the sissy bar shocks, so that's new, a little wobbly in turns, but again it's a frickin' Stingray Krate. I'm looking for an OEM three speed hub and shifter, bullet headlight/taillight generator set and rectangular rear view mirror to finish her off. The grandkids think they have the coolest grandpa ever, so that's a plus. All in all, I'm happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • Poor quality, no quality control! Poor quality, no quality control!
Size: 13 inch frame Color: Orange
First of all I received this bike later than anticipated and upon opening the box to check the contents discovered that the seat was fabricated with the logo and stripe was off center, obviously a quality control issue! Some may say it’s not a big deal but for the money I spent, I believe you should get a product of better quality! ... show more
