Even though I have dabbled in Guitar for 20 years- I am ready at my advanced age to make it a true "hobby". So I will call myself an "Advanced" beginner. I have owned quite a few guitars in the past mostly but I have to say there is NO guitar that I have ever owned that is like this one for a variety of reasons. SIZE MATTERS and HOW IT PLAYS As an advanced beginner I needed a guitar that "fit" me and that is a relatively thin neck , 42mm at the nut (medium) and low action with NO FRET BUZZ. Check and check and check for this Schecter! ( I have another one I bought PT series see the review on that and it is the same) Schecter advertises "out of the box ready to play" and that is TRUE - almost tuned even! But absolutely no dead frets for a $ 300 guitar. The low action and xtra jumbo frets make it VERY EASY to play at least for me. Not the firmest of grip- medium hands. Your mileage may vary. I have never played a guitar so easy to play. But keep in mind also that this is a 25" scale next meaning that the fret board is roughly 1" longer with 2 more frets than what would be considered "standard" that means it is easier to reach the higher frets- Schecter is very big in the Metal world and 25" scale is popular for metal shredding. Holding it feels slightly different that 22 fret models and that is a good thing for me. Since this model is only $300 means i could buy another one- and I did the Schecter PT that is a 22 fret model. I love them both. Oh and did I mention the inlay fret markers are very classy old English look to them- if not they do. CONSTRUCTION- OMG I dont know guitar that well (yet) but I do know fit an finish and build quality and like other reviewers I am blown away by the quality. I mean I really would have a hard time telling quality difference between this and a $ 1500 guitar. Yes the neck is fused but I got the white and I mean it is simply gorgeous. The hole through body strings looks uber cool and the dual bindings are just beautiful And the job done on the body is just smooth and without flaw. I also like that the tuning head is black and not white- nice touch as most white guitars are ALL white. And this is a classic yet distinctive shape that just will look classy for a long time. SOUND- I have this plugged into an Orange Crush 35RT Amp and man it may not be professional quality but dam it just rocks. Crystal clean or rippin your choice. I wont get into the goods and bads of the pickups since I just dont know. But I wont need anything more than what comes with the guitar. You could always upgrade and this is a perfect guitar to take to gigs- inexpensive and can get nicked and dneted- just keep a pristine second one at home to practice on. I keep mentioning that I am a beginner but really if your a 20 year player you will find a lot to like this model (or the extreme Omen that has a fancier color scheme) are perfect for players of all types. Its NOT just for beginners at all. But if you ARE buying your first model you have tons of choices LOOK AT THIS MODEL OR EVEN ANOTHER SHECTER you just have to. The no fret buzz out of the box is very important to me (if you do have a dead fret you have to mess with it or take it to someone to "fix" it. I think that these are all checked for that at the factory? Either way I have two Schceters and both are simply perfect string action. As you can tell I HIGHLY recommend this unit and the brand- you simply cant go wrong.

PRELUDE: Let me start off by saying I've never owned a Schecter, I've never even PLAYED a Schecter until I purchased this one. I already have a Gretsch 5420T and a Fender Strat. I wanted something a little more aggressive, but not a one trick EMG pony. Having said that, I didn't know what to really expect. I had an Epiphone SG a long time ago, and recently repurchased one. I just never could click with it, and Les Pauls just sounded sooo generic to my ears. LOOKS: Great, clean lines, I have the white one. The black lines and inlays are all immaculate. The contours of the body are a nice touch, and the finish is spotless. FEEL: Again, it feels amazing. The finish is smooth, no problems there. The fret work is OKAY. It has a little room for improvement, some edges are still a little rough. Not enough to catch a string on, but I may end up filing them a little bit. The neck is amazing. I honestly think it may be my favorite neck I've ever played on. Smooth, JUST thick enough, while not being too heavy. Frets are nice and thick, so you really get a sense for where your fingers are. The strap locks are meh, but cheap and easy to replace if you care. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the volume, tone, and pickup switch placement. Again, best I've ever dealt with. I like really throwing my arm around, and I can't stand accidentally smacking my switch or not being able to get to my knobs easily when I need them. PLAYS: It's a very nicely balanced guitar. I like that the neck doesn't dive on it. The body has enough wood that it sustains for days while still being comfortable for long periods of time. If you've ever worn a les paul on your shoulder for 5+ hours straight you'll know this is a big deal. SOUND: Fat, thick, ballsy, unique. It's kind of a like a les paul, meets a P90 traditional and they made a baby for the sound. You can get great searing lead tones, while dialing back brings in a very nice balanced clean. The pickups are hot, don't get me wrong. Not so much that you can't play a jazz lick with this guitar, but even on a super clean channel on my amp, you crank this guitar up you're going to get a little distortion. I like it better than the SG, it has more character and IMO more balanced tonal output. Les Paul's will do better if you need a gut wrenching bass kick, but this I think brings a better mid punch for solo's. OVERALL: If you are looking for a sub 500$ guitar, just buy this. Don't go looking at something else. Seriously, stop it, buy this one now. If you have 1000+ to spend, there are certainly better options. But, this thing was 300 at the time of this post. I set it up myself, gigged it next day, and had tons of really positive feedback on all accounts. I just may be a Schecter convert.

Great guitar. I want to give 5 stars, but I can't quite yet. I may update after I can get better equipment and here it's true sound. The white is a bit off from the picture which I wasn't happy about, but its still a nice color. Not a deal breaker. Came tuned well, action was fairly normal. Pretty well rounded for virtually whatever style. I feel it will have a great clean sound. Fretboard was smooth, even the strings we're pretty nice.

well, I WAS super impressed, however, when amped up it has a horrible hum sounds on any setting and any pickup position. all the ground wires seem to be good. amp is good, because this is the only guitar that hums. can't even wear headphones with it the humming is so loud I bought it used, like new condition. but it wasn't, I don't want to return it because it plays great, but I think I might have to.
