At this level( cabinet saws ), there isn't really much of a price differential between the SawStop and other table saws. Th extra safety feature becomes a no-brainer. Sure, you can still get kick back, but that is partly mitigated by the riving knife and with care, you should be able to avoid trapping wood such that it gets kicked. The packaging was great. The hardware and parts are so well marked, the manual so well written, you can't mess it up. It was also ready to go once everything was installed. The blade was dead plumb, the wings fit perfectly, and the fence gauge only needed the tiniest adjustment. I've never owned a full-on professional tool like this and everything was simple to understand, all parts were there, labeled and described as well as can be and the main parts ( the alignment, trunnions, and all ) were all perfect right from the factory. Usage has been fantastic. With the 3HP motor, even with the factory issued blade, it cuts the hard maple I am mostly using like wet newspaper. I can barely feel resistance against the blade. :-) Cuts are square and accurate and my girlfriend is not afraid to use it. I am not a professional and I am not a long-time woodworker either, so take my opinion as you will. I got into it three years ago and happened to make a little unexpected money and decided to get myself a nice birthday present. If you have the money and are looking at saws in this range, this is the saw to get. It cuts everything I've thrown at it so far, cherry, oak, maple, and a little bloodwood with ease and accuracy. It took me less than two hours to assemble from pallet to first cut and the added peace of mind that if I do screw up some time and get my fingers in the way, I'll still have them all for the next review I type. *** update 1/5/2014 So, after 9 months of owning this saw I don't regret my purchase. It's an excellent tool. I do have one issue though and it has to do with the safety feature. Yup, I finally tripped the safety and blew a brake. I did not actually come in direct contact with the blade, but tripped it by conducting through a metal jig. It was my own fault because I had turned the safety off ( a handy feature the saw provides ), but each time you power the machine down it re-enables. A good thing lest you forget later. What happened here though, is I made a couple cuts, powered down, started it, disabled the brake, made a cut, powered down... third time I forgot and *boom*! Safety worked exactly as it is supposed to do. Sadly, I tripped it with a brand-new dado set. :-( Ok, so on to the interesting part. When the brake blew it pushed the aluminum block into the blade as designed to do, but it also hit with such force that it pushed the outer blade and the next two adjacent chippers at about a 20 degree angle away from the normal perpendicular position they have. The blades were properly tightened with the arbor flange in place, but it still knocked them off-kilter. This effectively trapped the blade between the arbor and the aluminum brake heel. I could not remove the blown brake and I could not budge the blades. I tried various means of cautious prying but I was afraid if I applied any more force I'd possibly damage something. It simply was not coming out. My next step was calling Sawstop technical support. They claimed that this has never happened, and I'm not saying they were wrong but in the time I examined the situation it seemed ot me that this could happen with a dado set or single blade brake due to the way the aluminum heel is constructed. I'm no mechanical engineer but it appears it wants to favor the side that my blown brake exploded to trapped the blades. They suggested I apply more force to pry it loose, so I tried. I applied steady pressure in three different places and began pushing the saw itself. The saw weighs about 400lbs easily. Yeah, not going to work. Ultimately, they had no solution, but before it got to wrangling a tech to come out I suggested cutting the aluminum out with a sawzall in such a way as to relive the pressure. They assured me I could try and not void the warranty. BE forewarned, I didn't have to test that promise and I advise you proceed with GREAT care and caution before attempting what I did. Be very sure you are comfortable because you can damage the machine and more importantly, yourself! OK, here's the meat of this update. Use a metal blade and look at how the brake as several "bridges" that serve to absorb impact when the brake blows. Cut carefully around what you can reach. For me it was the largest one which was helpful. I cut a piece about an inch wide out and this released the pressure binding things up and I got the blades off and the brake out. I inspected the arbor closely as I feared the threads may have been damaged but they were OK. I checked everything else as well and observed no damage. Re-installed a new brake and I'm back in business. I hope my solution helps anyone else who gets a jammed brake!

Beautiful saw! Have it set up and fine-tuned at this point, but have completed only a few small projects using it. The 3HP is heavy, so a helper while moving it, along with a furniture dolly, is almost required. The process of assembling was a good experience, as the owner’s manuals and organized parts are the best I’ve ever seen. I mean, this is really an expensive machine, but I’ve no trouble understanding why serious woodworkers invest in it. The quality of all parts is plainly obvious, and the near lack of need to adjust anything while assembling (or after) is surprising. Advice? I purchased a PCS mobile base, but then decided to raise the working height of the saw from 34 inches to 36. Putting it on two-inch blocks negates any further use of the base. But since I’ve never had to move my previous saw, I wish I’d thought this through a bit more. If anything, this now-useless base might add to the value of a resale (though that’s not in future plans). I still am unsure if the black extension table comes with a protective plastic film that should be removed. Videos I’ve seen affirm this, and SS Tech support says they believe it does. If there is a film sheet, I can’t see it easily and can’t seem to find a corner to begin removal. One SS owner says the 36 setup does NOT have the film sheet, whereas the 52 inch setup does. I hooked up the saw blade guard to my Festool C26 HEPA vacuum, and the four-inch exhaust port to my main shop dust extraction system. For years I’ve only used a riving knife on a TS, but now want to try getting used to a guard as well. BTW, the guard and HEPA do a nice job with additional top-of-table sawdust. I also purchased two additional OEM blade throat inserts from SS. Didn’t particularly care for the Infinity ZCI throat plate with replaceable inserts. Finally, the prep for the saw meant I had to wire a 220 circuit in my shop. This was a first for me, but since I have a sub panel there, this was simple. I do look forward to a pleasant future with this saw. The safety features will increase peace of mind. That said, it’s good advice for all woodworkers to stay vigilant, as kickback and other potential safety issues are not to be ignored on any any TS.

I've had my saw now for 3 years -- 3 HP cabinet saw with 52" fence. I hesitated and sat on the fence due to price. I finally decided to purchase. I am extremely glad I did. I wasn't an experienced table saw user. My wife saw the spinning blade after my initial setup and she was very concerned. Shortly after I started using it I tripped the safety mechanism. I thought I was being safe, but realize now I wasn't. Fortunately I had a Saw Stop and only received the slightest nick in my hand from the blade. The saw is very accurate. As a matter of fact I told a fellow woodworker it's shockingly accurate. Take your time with the initial setup and it will pay dividends. Of course I make periodic checks, but I've never had to re-adjust anything. I can't say enough about how happy I am I purchased this saw. Of course I always work with safety in mind, but it only takes a split second to lose concentration and be scarred the rest of your life. With a Saw Stop you don't have to be concerned. I'm 62 years old and don't write a lot of reviews. However, after 3 years I still don't know of one thing I would change about this saw. I'm not a professional cabinet maker, however I take pride in my work. This saw is the center piece of my workshop with use on almost everything I make. I wouldn't trade it for the world. If you're thinking of purchasing a cabinet saw I wouldn't set on the fence. I can say after 3 years In my opinion when you consider all aspects -- it's simply the best option out there.

I pondered this saw over some of the other high end saws. I am not disappointed with this choice. The price is about the same as the other high end saws, so it was hard not to choose this with the added safety feature. Overall…drool worthy….: ) Build, fit and finish is near perfect. Packing was secure and well thought out. All the hardware is heavy duty and assembly was smooth. Sawstop puts all the bolts and hardware in a blister pack that is numbered for each step of assembly, very nice and easy to find each part, and manual is very good. Even the inside finish was gloss black and beautiful. I found that similar to the other reviewers, you get a very high quality, precision built, heavy duty and accurate saw - they are not cheaping out on the saw itself to sell the safety feature in my opinion and from what I am seeing. This saw costs a little more and you need to buy the cartridges, but you are getting a professional and modern design saw in addition to the added safety. This was a lifetime purchase I was deciding on, and I am not disappointed with this choice.

Update! Changed review to 5 stars after prolonged use. See comments in my reply to a post below. I hate to be the first non five star review for this table saw. I absolutely love this saw in every way possible. Excellent build, quality, and functionality. Although an awesome feature, and a must for all shops, but I did not get this saw for the safety system it incorporates. I got it for the build quality it exhibits. I thoroughly went through the calibration and adjustments schedule for table saws, and this was the first machine that actually came finely calibrated from the factory. I did not have to make any adjustments whatsoever on this table except for the height limiting bolt, which really does not count, as it had to do with my preference and the blades I use. But other than that, I was so surprised, and impressed by the calibration on this machine, that I had to re-calculate every measurement twice or thrice to make sure it was right. apparently, shipping and freight did not affect the calibrations made at the factory, as all other manufacturers claim. An excellent job by Saw Stop, and I guess the packaging had a lot to do with it. My one less star rating was because of the wings. The left side wing, had a bit of bow to it. When I tried shimming it, it warped the main table top in the process, not permanently, just as it was bolted. I had to choose between a perfect level on the main top with bowed wing, or a straight wing with a warped top. Of course I opted for the first. The wood top extension was also not perfectly straight and level, which was a disappointment to be honest. Overall, the not so perfect levels are not affecting my cuts, as the pressure is exerted on the main, flat top while cutting. But with such a well built saw, it should have been a perfectly level top, good enough to gauge your work piece for flatness on. Still, even with that, there is no other saw I would buy again after trying this one. I would still but it again, and again, even with this small defect I found on mine. An excellent overall table saw.

It is hard not to fall in love with this saw. It cuts terrific, is fairly easy to assemble (although very time consuming), and has the most accurate fence I have ever used. Everything about this saw is well thought out including the dust collection (excellent with the blade guard), power, ease of use and attention to detail. NOTE: I HIGHLY recommend getting the rolling cart by Saw Stop as this thing is IMPOSSIBLE to move around once assembled. The cart is very expensive but worth every single penny as it includes a hydralic jack for lifting up the assembly and easily rolling it anywhere you want. I especially like the manuals (very detailed and organized including some plans for additional accessories you can build if you choose) and the assembly instructions along with actual kits to put it together rather than the tedious part bags. Special thanks to Saw Stop for making a brilliant system for removing the blade guards and insert. It couldn't be much easier than this. You can even get someone on the phone right away for tech support -- how cool is that! Despite all of this, there are a couple of wish list items I wish the saw had. 1) a bit more storage like a storage box to store extra items such as feather boards. 2) power cord holder. When disconnected there is no convenient hook to wrap the cord around. Again these are minor issues for what is one of the best saws on the market.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! .000 out of box?!?!?! So my 3hp PCS came today, delivered directly into may garage, and I've probably spent a total of 6 hours for setup including cleaning and waxing the top three times. I used a 2x4 as a lever in the pallet to get the saw off of the double stacked pallets it came on. I am still young, so lifting the saw up and onto the mobile base wasnt bad at all really, especially considering no help. I took extra time lining up the wings which was the longest part of the install. After everything was set up, I moved on to the fine tuning. I got out my brand new saw gauge, marked a tooth, measured from front of the blade to center, rotated the blade to the back, and continued moving it along to the same tooth now in the back. The entire time, the saw gauge didnt even budge a to a half of .001!!! Now for the fence. I started at .000, and along the way to the back of the fence, it went up to as far as .004, then back to .000, then to .002, back to .004, then .000 all the way at the tail... I did check my hard stops on the blade angle, which was dead on 90°, and then 44.8°. I imagine fixing the 45° wont be hard to do, and I'll work on that tomorrow. The installation booklet is amazingly detailed, the hardware is in numbered, color coded blister packs, you have to be trying to mess up the installation on this saw! After setup, the saw is actually quieter than my dust collector, which allows me to make cuts in the garage even while my 2 year old naps inside the house! I could go on and on about how much I love this saw itself, but it is the entire experience that was just so amazing, I haven't fealt this way about any purchase in such a long time! Thank you Sawstop, you made me feel like a kid on Christmas again!!!
