  • "Custom" craft cabinet <3
Color: Dakota Oak Finish Pattern Name: Cabinet
First off, lets start with the fact that I heavily modified this cabinet. I wanted one of those Scrapboxes but they run around $1,500 and I'm not rich. Instead I scoured Amazon and settled on this piece of furniture as a starting point. I read a ton of reviews and was a little wary because some people said it took them around 8 hours to build. Jumped in head first, ordered some other parts that I was sure would fit, and went on my merry way. Parts arrived! Hooray! I pulled the cabinet out of its two packing boxes (seriously they must have packaged this better since older reviews because mine was in perfect condition). Oh, this thing is also extremely heavy, like so ridiculously heavy that the fedex lady left it out front, but luckily my roommate helped me bring it in because otherwise I'd have been pulling pieces in one at a time from outside. Anyway, laid out the pieces and got to work. My two year old decided it was very fun to climb over this as I was building it, and I decided to time myself because I was sure there was no way it would take me longer than 2 hours to build. I did make a couple of minor mistakes and had to pull things apart to fix them, but 2.5 hours later I had a cabinet! I went a little over my mark, but just really be careful when reading the instructions. My biggest mistake was not putting the small door handle on before the other parts of that door. I sadly realized that my Wall Control pegboards weren't going to fit on the large door without cutting the shelves, so my carpenter sibling came the next week and we cut 1 inch off of the top and bottom shelves. The middle shelf we jury rigged a little bit so it still sort of has a finished front, they cut 1/4 inch off, then 1 inch off, then we glued the 1/4 inch back on. That sounds confusing and it was a little bit, but it works! I do need to go back in and put some paint or marker or something on it to blend the colors in, but I have now moved onto my next project (custom kitchenette for my son for X-Mas). I was concerned about the weight of the whole thing, but I had anticipated this and with a 2 year old I was taking no chances, so I went ahead and bought a 400lb anti-tip kit. I got some nuts and bolts and bolted the pegboard on through the door, I wanted to make sure it was secure (theme here?). The majority of the work was done, but I wanted a chalkboard front. I tried just painting over the veneer but the paint just scratched off easily with my nails so I had to go back and sandpaper the whole front of the door. Painted it again and two coats later I have a great chalkboard door too! • Great cabinet, great quality, easy assembly!
Color: Sienna Oak Finish Pattern Name: Cabinet
I was absolutely terrified to put this cabinet together after reading some incredibly mixed reviews about assembly. Here's what you need to know: 1) Is it a quick project? NO! 2) Did the manufacturer provide thorough & easy to follow assembly instructions? YES!!!!! While it was a lengthy project, taking the better part of a Saturday to put together by myself, dust it and fill it up, it was NOT difficult. It would be helpful - especially for certain parts, to have a second person to help - but not necessary. I am a woman in my 30's and I had absolutely no problems getting this cabinet assembled. I do agree with the manufacturers suggestion to assemble on the cardboard or a blanket. I have vinyl flooring and had to assemble in a different room than the cabinet actually belonged. I was able to set the cabinet upright and easily push it across the floor since it was on the blanket and then moved each end off the blanket to it's rightful place. There was also a review about how the doors did not go on "square" but the manufacturer has that covered! There are thorough instructions on what screws to adjust to make the doors go up or down; in or out; side to side. HAVE NO FEAR - YOU CAN DO THIS! I really wanted to be able to fit brooms & dust mops in the cabinet but I saw in another review that is not possible and they are correct. You could potentially disassemble a sweeper and possibly fit it in, but I have plenty of other things I can store in there and will find another solution for my broom/vacuum. Very impressed with the stability and sturdiness of the cabinet and shelving. This is just an overall great buy in my opinion and I would highly recommend to anyone who needs some extra storage space for the kitchen (like me) or really any room. I'm uploading a couple of pics I took to show just how much a person can fit in the cabinet :) ... show more

  • Avoid this product
Color: Dakota Oak Finish Pattern Name: Cabinet
I purchased this a while back and just got around to assembling it. While I have assembled many Sauder products in the past, this one has been a total disaster. There were panels that had been broken and then glued back together, with the breaks in the veneer very obvious. There were parts broken, i.e. the twist screws, and no extra's included. But to top it all off, once the assembly was almost complete, the shelved door would not close because of hitting the top molding. It was off by about an inch. I have disassembled and reassembled until the twist screws have broken apart. I have had 5 different engineers look at this thing and all agree that there is no way assembly could have worked with the part assembled as directed. Had I known earlier it was impossible, I could have drilled new bracket holes for the door and shifted it down, but now all is lost. This was $200 thrown in the trash. I never give bad reviews, but then again I have never received anything like this before. ... show more

  • Excited to have a real pantry again
Color: Dakota Oak Finish Pattern Name: Cabinet
Super happy with this cabinet. I bought it to use as a pantry, and it's working out perfectly. I too was really worried about assembling it, and had it for almost a month before I took the time and got it assembled. It took me, alone, 5'2" woman in her 40's, about 4 hours to assemble it, mostly alone. My son helped me when it came to turning it over. For me, the hardest part was the small door, but I was able to take it apart, and make the adjustments very easily. I originally put the shelves in upside down, and then put the final side into the wrong holes. Totally my fault since the instructions where very clear, with good illustrated step by step instructions. So happy to be able to see all the foods now. It's so much better than my original solution. ... show more
