I bought 4 of the "select cherry" finish. I think they are very good for what they are, particle board furniture. I got 1 for $89 and the other 3 for $78. Solid wood furniture would likely have been many hundreds of dollars more. The instructions were clear and it was easy to assemble. One tip is to not cover the cams until the very end so you can tighten them several times (some may loosen as you move the unit around during assembly). The cherry finish is very nice although 2 of the 4 I bought had minor damage to the tops (not bad enough to warrant replacement). Although the Sauder packing is extremely good, with corner reinforcements outside the main box, the top piece is packed at the very bottom and I suspect is subjected to greater stress during transport than the other pieces. I would encourage Sauder to redesign the packing order, so the top is placed maybe in the middle or top of the stack. One other minor issue I had was 1 of the units was missing 1 of the 5 angle brackets for the bottom trim piece, so I bought some 3/4" brackets from a hardware store. It wasn't a perfect solution, but it worked. And although Sauder only says 25 lbs on the top, this is based on their tip-over testing and probably to avoid legal liability. The structure can probably handle at least 50 lbs (their rating for the bottom piece) and possibly much more (based on other reviews). I have a 55" TV on one of mine (~25 lbs) and I'm sure you could mount a larger one, especially if the TV legs are straddling 2 side by side units. ... show more

Overall, the shelf is pretty sturdy and looks great. Unfortunately, there was one pre-drilled hole that was not construction properly. The pre-drilled hole should have allowed for the screw to stop at a certain point when screwing it into the top piece, but the hole did not have a lip like the other ones, therefore the screw went all the way through the top finished piece of wood. If the pre-drilled hole was constructed properly, I wouldn't have a chipped hole on the top of the shelf. Buyer beware, look at the pre-drilled holes prior to assembling and make sure that it has the lip as intended to avoid damaging your brand new $100 bookshelf. ... show more

Looks good enough, but just be aware that this is made of particle board with a thin veneer so it is easily damaged while assembling. I ordered two and one of my bookshelves had several damaged components but the manufacturer website for Sauder has an option to request specific parts for replacement. Also avoid any power tools and try to place the pieces on carpet or soft area as you can easily damage the veneer/plywood. Even with just a screwdriver, the veneer lifted/peeled under the pressure of one of the screws. Since this was just cosmetic in a corner I decided to keep it. As long as you take care assembling the product it should be fine and otherwise seems sturdy/structurally sound to hold up books ... show more

I love how it looks, very sturdy. But the bottom trim piece on both of them that I installed ended up not perfectly lined up even when I was trying to be super careful so there is a visible line at the bottom on the shelf where it meets the trim that bothers me. Be very careful installing the bottom trim piece and be prepared for it showing a light colored line and not being perfect. ... show more

This two-shelf bookcase surprised me with how elegant it is despite being inexpensive. I have been very pleased with this for storage of China plates, cookbooks, coffee bar materials, etc. Assembly took about 30 minutes and was very easy. Would highly recommend!

I needed a small bookcase in my home office that could hold large and medium books. It didn't need to be too sturdy but it needed to hold at least 30 lbs per shelf. It was easy to assemble and looks nice. It came with a scratch in the top piece and the backing was slanted, so it doesnt go on straight and leaves gaps showing through on the back. This is the 3rd I have bought and the only one that was defective.

Loved the sturdiness and the beautiful finish of this product! I got the shorter bookcases because in truth I thought they would come assembled! But, they do not... However, as an older woman I decided to just lay out all the pieces where they kind of would go. Then, I put out all the nails, screws etc. on a cloth in order of use. It looks absolutely gorgeous. I did make a small mistake putting a board backwards and then, there were no nail holes on the bottom shelf, however, I modified it and it is fine. This turned out like a fine piece of furniture and it is well worth the money! Just know that you will be putting it together and one bookcase took me a little over an hour and a half. I recommend this sturdy, rich-appearance bookcase to anyone who has the patience to put it together. :) Love it! ... show more
