    • A simple and useful companion for a mini Mac.
The primary reason I purchased this mini Mac accessory was because I still have several devices, a mic, video light, speaker, etc. which have the larger, earlier generation USB plugs, plus SSD memory cards containing photos, and with the device designed to accommodate the installation of a solid state “hard drive”, I thought I could use that as my Time Machine backup drive. I purchased a 1 gig memory card in order to do that, but haven’t yet installed it. The device connects to the mini Mac via an included thunderbolt cable, but I don’t know which thunderbolt version the company included. This is a simple to use product and it was reviewed and recommended by either WIRED Magazine or the New York Times Wirecutter people. I’m glad I have it. ... show more

    • Turns your Mac mini into something it should've been out of the box.
Look, the Mac mini M4 is incredible. It's also a small aluminum puck with ports that Apple decided should mostly live in the back, which is a choice. The Satechi hub/stand fixes that in a way that feels almost obvious in hindsight — prop the mini up, route your cables sensibly, and suddenly your desk doesn't look like a spaghetti incident. The build quality is solid. Aluminum, matches the Mac mini's finish almost perfectly, and doesn't feel like a $12 Amazon knockoff pretending to be $108 of product. The self-cooling passthrough is a nice touch — the M4 runs cool anyway, but you're not sandwiching it in plastic, so that's appreciated. The NVMe SSD enclosure is the real star here. Slot in your own drive and you've got fast expandable storage baked right into the stand. For the price of the hub alone, getting that enclosure bundled in is legitimately good value. The USB-A ports are 10Gbps, which: fine. Would've loved at least one USB-C on the front, but apparently that's a bridge too far. Pros: Aluminum build that actually matches the Mac mini NVMe enclosure included — huge value add Front-facing ports solve Apple's inexplicable cable placement decisions SD card reader is genuinely useful and not an afterthought Cons: No front-facing USB-C — in 2026, come on $108 is a lot to admit Apple's port placement annoyed you NVMe drive not included (obvious, but still stings when you're setting it up) Bottom line: If you have a Mac mini M4 and a desk you care about, this is the upgrade that makes the whole setup feel intentional.
