  • Great card for 1080, moderate for 1440
Pros: Great card for max 1080p play. Moderate for 1440 with some graphics settings relaxed. Outstanding cooling, quiet and great temps at gaming loads. Fans stop at idle and only spin up when temps increase under significant load! Second BIOS has settings for even quieter operation. Comes overclocked out of the box with a backplate. Can control LEDs with Sapphire TriXX software. FreeSync and HDR for monitors that support it. Cons: Fairly high power consumption compared to the competition, but still quite tolerable. Limited overclocking headroom available. Since this comes pre-overclocked, don't expect to be able to take it further than a few %. ... show more

  • Slightly better performance than the RX580 (Around 6.5%)
Purchased the Sapphire Radeon Nitro RX 590 as a replacement for a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 that is currently been serviced under warranty. Quick performance results, GPU installed in a Sonnet Breakaway Box eGPU enclosure connected via TB3/TB2 adapter to a 2014 MacbookPro Retina. RX590 Stock Core Clock: 1560MHz 3DMark Fire Strike 1.1 Score: 10192 (Graphics Score 13,662) RX580 Stock Core Clock: 1366MHz 3DMark Fire Strike 1.1 Score: 9854 (Graphics Score 12,827) %difference Clock Speed: 14% %difference Graphics Score: 6.5% The 590 card is slightly bigger than the Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX580 card. Power consumption seems to be higher on the RX590 since it requires a 8 pin PCI-E + a 6 pin PCI-E connector for power vs a single 8 pin PCI-E connector on the RX580 card. The actual physical card is larger than the Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX580 card, bigger heat sinks to support the higher power dissipation. Originally was looking for another RX580 card as a replacement/spare card, but decided on the Sapphire Radeon Nitro+ RX590 card based on the overall design and smaller feature size 12nm vs 14nm. And the initial delta in price was about $45.00 between the two (now it seems to be just a $24.00 delta based on the pricing as I write this review so a much better proposition) Wasn't really expecting that much of a performance improvement given that the architecture is basically the same between the RX580 and the RX590, just a slightly higher core clock speed thanks to the 12nm process vs the 14nm process. The performance of the Nvidia 1070Ti is still better, but sadly that card doesn't work with the MacBookPro 2014 under Bootcamp and Win10 or Win7. ... show more

  • Amazing card, beware if you use display adapters
Love the card, low noise level, high performance, kind of high power consumption (about 150-180 watts on demanding titles). The aesthetic of the GPU is quite nice if you can appreciate blue. Upgraded from an RX 480 8GB from XFX Paired with Ryzen 1600x 3.6 GHz 16 Gb corsair vengeance @ 2400 MHz 700W PSU EVGA Asus prime x370 pro MoBo Benchmarked The Witcher 3 on max settings (no hairworks). in demanding areas I get around 65 to 75 FPS which is impressive in my opinion. One major issue that I had in the beginning; The card would have display driver crashes 5 minutes into gaming. I was really worried I had a DOA. Did some research for this line of architecture (Polaris?) and it turns out it does NOT LIKE display adapters. I was using a VGA to HDMI adapter since my monitor only had DVI and VGA. Ordered a DVI-D cable, hooked it up, and no more crashing. Anxiety GONE. Final thoughts: Get this card to get the most bang for your buck, don't use adapters and you will have a good time. ... show more

  • Great upgrade for a GTX 970
I waited eagerly for the Nvidia 2000 series, and when that was a big letdown I decided to switch to AMD while I wait for the new Navi to come out a year from now. Wow. This card looks beautiful and performs well. I was using a Windows Mixed Reality device with the 970 and was unhappy with some of the performance, but this card cleared that right up. It's like a whole new world! I also want all three games that come with it, so I think it's really worth the price. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Excellent Price to Performance 1080p and 1440p
Many people describe this card as the "king of 1080p" but I think that sells it a bit short. I am currently playing through Resident Evil 2 (2019 version) at 1440p Ultra settings and never dipping below 70 FPS except in some cutscenes. For me this card was more of a lateral move because I am upgrading from a Sapphire R9 Fury, but the new architecture means it runs cooler with lower wattage. Plus in some games like Forza Horizon 3, I get almost double the performance and stability for some reason. If you're an AMD fan and can get this card ~$260 with the game bundle, do it. It's a rock solid performer and Freesync is a life changer. ... show more

  • Superb Speed, Stability and Performance on Linux
I love this GPU. It replaced a crappy PowerColor Red Dragon Vega 56. My first Vega56 I RMA'd and the 2nd replacement one was just as unstable as the first one, so this RX 590 was my lower-cost replacement (lesson learned, don't buy PowerColor). If you are looking for an AMD GPU, start your search with Sapphire, these guys know how to build a GPU! I wrote another review here for this Sapphire Radeon RX 590 GPU that got denied because I linked to a fix to help correct a minor issue (horizontal screen flicker) with this GPU and my ASUS VG245H monitor when in 75Hz (in Linux). Forgive me for trying to offer free help to other people, Amazon. If you run into those issues on Linux with your monitor at 75Hz flickering with your Polaris card (RX 500 series), you can probably find the fix with a google search of this: screen flickering bugs.freedesktop show bug id 102646 Should be the first link result (102646 – Screen flickering under amdgpu-experimental [buggy auto ...), then scroll down to comment 82 for the fix that I used that worked perfectly. This probably wouldn't be much of an issue with a fresh install of the OS, but just in case. Beyond that, it's stellar and its performance is slightly below that of a GTX 1070. ... show more
