As a lifelong hiker, I would not call these hiking shorts. The material is lightweight with mesh pockets that wouldn’t hold up well to the kinds of things hikers carry or tromping through brush. I loved these shorts so much that I have 3 pair now and just ordered a capri length for an upcoming trip. I hope I'll love those just as much. I wear them to walk in the hot South Georgia summertime and will enjoy them on my upcoming Disney trip. I needed shorts that are quick dry (frequent rain showers and water rides), cool, comfortable, and have nice secure pockets. These shorts really fit the bill!
