  • Works Great, Fast
So my camera has UHS-II cards and my old reader was not doing the job. It was very fast with the standard UHS-I cards, but was slower with UHS-II cards. It is also the Sandisk reader. So I bought this and was surprised to see just how fast it was, twice is fast if not faster. Got near 250/s speed. Very happy at this price to see it so fast. ... show more

  • Works as advertized. Updated 9/2/19
Came quickly; Easy to use; So far works great. Updated 9/2/19: There have been a lot of questions about where this can be used just because it has a USB Type-C connection which is used on a lot of new devices. People want to know if they can up/download Samsung phones. I have an S8 phone that does NOT work with this reader/writer. I use the reader/writer to up and down load files to/from Windows Computers and it works well for that purpose. Samsung phones can have micro SD cards inserted into the phone which may well allow moving files but I haven't tried that. ... show more

  • Not The Fastest but Overall Good, iPad Pro 2018 Compatible, Quirky
Purchased this because I needed a UHS-II reader for my Sony 300MB/s card. At first, I wondered if the Sony card was fake because I was getting the same 82MB/s write and 88MB/s read speeds with the Sandisk UHS-II reader, as I was with the Anker UHS-I USB-C reader I had previously. After a few tries of getting the same speed, I attempted the ports on the left side of my TouchBar MacBook Pro 13". -- That time I got 185MB/s write and 236MB/s read speeds. Ran the test a few times, no problems, the speed was consistent. It caused me to wonder if the ports on the left of my MBP were slower than the ones on the right, so I attempted the right side again and got the same maximum speeds. So I just assumed it was a momentary glitch and ignored the initial lowered speeds. Until the next day when it happened again. I noticed the problem was happening when I inserted the reader for the first time after a few hours of not using it. I tested it a few hours later and it happened again. After testing and retesting I eventually discovered what the real issue was, it occurred whenever I inserted the card into the reader before plugging it into the USB-C port. For some reason, whenever I did that the reader would only achieve UHS-I speeds no matter how many times I ejected the card and reinserted it, and the times it wasn't doing that it was because I had already ejected the card due to the issue, unplugged the reader and plugged it back in without the card. I was coincidentally doing that each time I encountered the issue. So I made a mental note to always plug in the reader without the card, wait a few seconds, then insert the card, and to also do the same when using it with my iPad Pro. I figured it was just a quirk of UHS-II that I had to get used to. Until a few days later ... I noticed that other Amazon reviewers were getting faster speeds with the same memory card, a MacBook Pro and also using Blackmagic Design's "Disk Speed Test". The speed difference was only about 20MB/s, but it was significant enough for me to doubt the reader. So I purchased Satechi's UHS-II USB-C reader to compare, and I saw a 13MB/s speed increase. Also, the issue I had with the Sandisk didn't exist with the Satechi. The latter always gave consistent read speeds. Perhaps by design the Satechi is more optimized / handles memory better, due to its ability to read from an SD card and MicroSD simultaneously (it has slots for both, unlike the Sandisk's one SD slot). I am unsure if the issue I've experienced with the Sandisk was due to a faulty version, as I didn't purchase another Sandisk to compare. Regardless, I'm sure the Sandisk reader will get the job done. You might want to just make it a habit of plugging in the reader, and waiting a bit before inserting the card (around 5 seconds). Or if that seems like too much hassle, run a speed test on your reader to see if you have the same issue, and if not just ignore my suggested process. Generally, I don't think the increase in cost for the Satechi is worth the modest increase in speed. However, for me the sleeker design, convenience of two slots, and peace of mind are worth the extra $10, so I'll be returning the Sandisk. However, if I had to do it again, I probably wouldn't have purchased the Satechi, if that makes sense. To me, the 5 second wait isn't so much of an issue. If I'm in the field and my reader fails, I'd go to physical store where the Sandisk is more than likely to be and purchase it in a heartbeat. So, I actually recommend both readers. I don't think you'd go wrong with the Sandisk. ... show more

  • If you need to dump UHS-I/UHS-II cards this is a MUST HAVE!
With my job I have many duties, one of which is recording tons of video. The issue I always had with this is trying to dump the SD cards after the shoot. I was using a generic "plug into anything" SD card reader that has every type of usb built in and was only getting 13 MB/s transfer rates. When your dumping 120+gb, this makes for a very time consuming transfer. So just yesterday I got sick and tired of this nonsense and pulled the trigger on this SanDisk reader after seeing some reviews with transfer speed screenshots. It came in earlier today which was just in time to dump another batch of SanDisk Extreme Pro (UHS-I) 128gb cards and all I can say is "wow". The speeds that I'm getting now are just over 7x faster, SEVEN TIMES FASTER. What used to take an hour is only taking minutes. The only negative thing I have to say is that I wish I had found this sooner. ... show more

  • Fast! like really fast!
I initially bought this just for the USB-C connector. The first thing I noticed when I received it was the build quality. It is sturdy and the cable is nicely jacketed (I'm an electrical engineer so nice cables and connectors really stands out to me). The transfer speed is blazing fast as well! I offloaded a 64 gb SD card in no time at all. Overall, just a solid SD card reader. Very satisfied. ... show more

  • Died after a few weeks, replacement DOA too
Was great when it was working, really fast data transfer on macbook, but it died after a few weeks of use. Contacted Sandisk for a replacement and they sent what looks like a completely new unit that did not work out of the box, DOA. So cannot recommend this at all. Must be bad internals because it looks solid on the outside. ... show more
