My son is a big fan of the architectural and city building sets, so this was right up his alley. He has several "postcard" style sets and a San Francisco city set from another brand and this was very comparable in style and quality. He actually put it side-by-side with his slighty larger San Fran set and the layout was practically identical (this smaller set was missing one building included in the larger city set and Alcatraz is quite a bit smaller, but overall they look a lot alike). This set included a little tool for removing pieces, identical to what you find in the other brand's sets, and the pieces were all well molded and fit together without any issues. ... show more

    • simpler kit than Amazon's "micro mini" kits, good for pre-teens
Amazon sells a few different San Francisco (as well as other cities) building kits from Lego, Nanoblock, and other brands. This kit is much simpler, as well as less expensive, than any of those. The fancier kits are all intended for teenagers or older. This kit has fewer and simpler pieces, so is better for younger kids. It might make a good gift for a child living in San Francisco or from a parent who just visited San Francisco. As with most of these "skyline" building kits, this kit is nothing like what the real skyline looks like. In real life, the Golden Gate Bridge is on the opposite side of the city from where the downtown buildings are located. ... show more
