The media could not be loaded. This is a nice toy. The excavator comes with an extra battery, charging cable, screwdriver to access the battery compartment and the manual. This is more complicated to operate than an RC car. The treads can go forward/backward and turn left/right. The cab can also spin over 360 degrees. Then there is the control for digging and unloading the bucket. The controller connects wirelessly to the excavator automatically. In addition to the other controls, it has two extra unmarked buttons which have no function and demo button. There is a button to turn on/off two lights which are on the arm and another button to turn on/off the sound. There is a different sound for each of the different operations. I could not find a trim function. My excavator has a slight drift to the left. This is not a serious problem since the excavator is not very fast. The excavator handled well in the sand pile I used for evaluation. It can travel up a 45 degree slope, but you need to keep the arm extended to prevent the excavator from turning over. It would have been nice for the base to be a little heavier to help prevent tipping. This will not dig any deep holes as you can see from the video. The arm does not have a lot of torque (for safety reasons) so it can only handle loose dirt or sand. The treads seemed a little loose, but I did not have a problem with them coming off the tracks. This excavator has some nice detail. You can look into the engine compartment and can see into the driver's cab. There is even a windshield wiper that can be operated manually. The charging cable plugs into a USB port. There is a red light on the cable that turns off when the battery is fully charged. If you have a child into construction equipment, this would be a great gift for them. Enjoy! ... show more

My grandson is my official tester on this. Had to wait until Christmas for the reveal. He is 11 and had it figured out in minutes of use. I still go back when i want to go forward. The articulation is exactly what you'd see with a full size excavator. It pivots in several points so you can really get precise in what you are trying to do. He was going around the floor picking up his other small toys, wrapping paper and whatever was lying around. The battery life is good, but like all remote toys it dies just when you are having fun. But it comes with another batter, so just plug it in and go. The battery compartment is like most (and it annoying) in that it has a screw you have to remove to access the battery. Seems someone would make these with a stronger latch that wouldn't require the screw. Small complaint for an otherwise good toy. ... show more

    • Great maneuverability and build quality IMO; very durable and resilient with very nice controller
The media could not be loaded. All in all I really enjoyed playing with this with my 3 yo nephew, and he definitely put it through the ringer in terms of the durability test lol. The remote control is very responsive and all the effects are very cool; especially the lighting system that even has a directional light beam on the backhoe arm itself so you can see where the arm is pointed. The pickup arm is pretty strong, but it did struggle a little when dealing with very wet / thick sand, but that is to be expected. The important part is that it didn't break even though it overworked the gears on the arm. The controller on this is very cool as it has loops for a neck strap if wanted, and all the controls are very well laid out. I can't speak too much as to the range because we stayed pretty close to it, but I wouldn't imagine range is all that important on a toy like this. I definitely would recommend this for children of just about all ages because it is slow enough that even if the kid is too young to really have good control over it, I think they would still enjoy just pressing buttons and seeing it move, and you don't have to worry about it getting out of control and damaging walls if playing indoors or anything along those lines. ... show more

    • A toy that can do a lot of fun stuff
What I like: Packaging was well done. Toy feels well built. Getting everything ready was easy, charge the battery, get the remote it's batteries and you are off and running. The controller allows you to move it well, and yes you can actually move dirt with this. Movement is good, but depending on the ground surface it can get stuck at times. Controlling it is fun, and it allows a lot to be done. The thought process on this rc toy was well done, as again it can do a lot and is quite fun to play with. Battery life wasn't that great, less than 40 min if that, but then again the size of the battery isn't huge and once your kids get to playing with it, time goes by fast. What I didn't like: The only issue is the ground surface can make movement slow or stop the device. So don't be surprised if a nudge or two is needed. Still fun to use though. Overall it's a great quality toy with so much it can do, including moving dirt. I only wish stuff like this had been around when I was growing up. At the price point and for the fun it brings, I certainly would recommend this to others! ... show more
