3 months or so, ago, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Flip 3 5G. Received a $150.00 Samsung Credit. Since I already have a pair of Galaxy Buds Pro. I sat on that credit. I am a mechanical watch guy. I own at least a dozen or so mechanical watches. Smart watches are really not my thing. I used to wear a Rolex GMT 2 18k for travel. Getting old and wearing a gold watch is too much a target, I bought a Breitling Galactic Unitime. However, that watch is running fast and I need to take that in for service. I paid $800.00 to service a Rolex DD at Rolex Service Center. While the Breitling should charge less, it would still be more than the cost of a smart watch. Due to COVID, I am not travelling, so I let the Breitling in the watch winder. My daily watch was a Rolex DD in white metal. There are quite a number of news about punks robbing folks with nice watches. I do not want to be a potential target. So, I spent my Samsung credit on a Galaxy Watch 4 44mm. I ordered a white one with bigger screen despite I have a smaller wrist as my old eyes need all the help I can get. I ordered it with a regular black band and I am surprised that I would like it so much. Having a Flip phone is cool but able to answer a call with a wrist watch is cooler. I can choose to be Captain Kirk or Dick Tracy. I like the functionality of this watch so much, I purchased the Classic 4 on Black Friday week with a charger. Both watches function about the same but I do like the Classic 4 better. Classic 4 added a rotating bezel which is quite handy. Putting both watches side by side, they look the same size despite one is listed 44mm and the other 46mm. The Classic looks like a watch while the regular one looks futuristic. Both watches wear big and the bands while comfortable do not fit the watch that well. They do not bend at the attaching prongs and created gaps on the wrist. I do wish Google Assistant is on this watch instead of Bixby. I could side load the Google Assistant but I choose to wait for Samsung to install this at a later update. Google Pay works, I like the fact I do not have to pull out my wallet or even my phone to pay. I use World Time, Weather and Calendar on the watch. I do not need to pull out the phone most of the time. Some reviewers are saying that the watch does not hold charge that well. Both of mine would last at least 2 days. I do not set the display to always on. Rotate my wrist would turn the display on for about 5 seconds which is long enough to read the time. I wore my watch sleeping just to check my sleep for fun. I would wake up in the morning and place the watch on its charger. By the time I made breakfast and finished it, the watch would be fully charged. I am a couch potato. My exercise is walking the dog while I dog sit for my son. So, the health functions are more secondary to me but I can see that would be beneficial for others. I do recommend this Galaxy 4 Classic. In fact, either the Galaxy 4 or the Classic 4 would be good. Personally, I like the Classic better but I am not sure it is worth the extra money. One thing that I do need to point out is: - Ordering from Amazon does not allow selection of the bands. Black watch comes with black band and white watch comes with white band. However, the band I received is sort of light gray color. Just be aware that the watch bands that come with the watches are large sizes. I have a 6.5 inches wrist. While I can use the large band by using the first hole, it looks ridiculous. I swapped the bands on the watches. Now, the Classic 4 has the regular black band and the other one has the large grayish band. I do not need two of the very similar watches so I am going to pass it on to one of my family members. Just be aware while the price in Amazon might be better, you do not have a selection for bands in color or size. BTW. Not all carriers support eSIM on a smart watch. Google Fi does not so I did not get one with LTE. Glad that I noticed this before I purchased the watches as that would be a waste of money. Got 2 of these watches, 46mm for me the 42mm for my wife. The watch was very easy to setup with my Samsung Fold Z 3 for bluetooth. However the LTE part was a nightmare but I will put the blame on AT&T for that. I will go into detail on that part below. I upgraded from a Fitbit Versa 3 and I am happy that I did! I bought the LTE version but haven't committed to keeping the data plan, I usually have my phone on me but I can see where it would be nice when you don't want your phone on you such as the beach. Pro. Bluetooth easy to setup Lots of awesome functionality, such as being able to silence your alarm on your watch. SMS pictures show up! The spin wheel on top is awesome for navigation. You can have it set up so you only get notifications on your watch when your phone isn't in use. Con's Battery Life. I get a little over a day out of charge, I don't mind having to charge it every day but wish it had a physical connection, the wireless charging takes about 1.5-2 hrs to fully charge. My fitbit would last about 4 days for me and the magnetic physical charge would only take 30 min. Yes this watch does more but just wish it would charge faster or a bigger battery. I Like the sleep tracking so I don't like charging it while im in bed. Separate apps for the watch settings and for the physical tracking. Maybe some people like that but I am use to Fitbit's all in one All about LTE LTE setup was a nightmare. I did it all through ATT, for those of you who don't know how it works your phone gets it's own phone number and your calls and messages get forward when your phone is out of range. This watch needs a eSIM card not a physical SIM. For ATT it will be about 30 bucks for a setup free and 10mo (13 with fees) as of 2022. eSIM card came fast in the mail (not sure why they just couldn't generate an email), next day after using ATT online order. When you set up your data plan you're just suppose to scan the QR code on the eSIM card and it all works. Mine didn't, had to call ATT support. After about 2 hours the kid on the other line got my account setup manually. The watch still didn't connect, ,got some sort of SDK error. So ATT put me in touch with a specialist who called me about 3 days later. He told me the SDK error should be fixed. and sure enough it was. Now we have to number sync with watch with the phone, got the code on the watch, no where to put the code in the phone, spent an hour trying to figure it out. Told me he would try to set it up again and try it the next day. The fix Before he called, I figured it out. When I unpaired the watch from my phone it makes you set it up from scratch and since the ATT account was in my phone when I set the watch up it found my data plan and set it up. The button in the App to put the code in showed up, so this time when I numbered synced I had a place to put the code in and it worked. My wife's issue instead of using the automation system my wife called ATT customer service, they sent her a physical sim instead of a eSIM. When she called ATT, she got someone who didn't know what to do. Called again the next day, the guy did get the account setup but then she got the SDK error that I got. The guy was telling her all the wrong stuff, I had to education the guy on what was wrong, his solution was that she could only set it up at the ATT store. We waited a couple of days and the SDK error fixed it self and she was able to number sync and it's been working since. Maybe this would have been less of a nightmare at an AT&T store but the only had one version of the watch for sale. Also between using Amazons CC and reward points the watch came out cheaper, worth the hassle in my book ... show more
